I walked past Tapisco when deciding where to grab a lunch, and it looked enticing. I like to eat a good lunch so sat down in the beautiful restaurant to eat to my heart's content. The décor was a mix between old-world charm and modern dining. I was impressed. I had plenty of time, so put together a meal that I could be proud of. For starters, I chose the tomato bread with Jamón Ibérico de Bellota as this is one of my favourites. It was exquisite and complemented the Marinated Olives I had chosen alongside. Then it came to the mains. I had a feeling they were all going to be good. The Tuna Tartar with avocado and wasabi "eggs" was delightful and showed off the skills of a master chef. Seafood is so hard to get right so I was delighted when the Cuttlefish Tempura with coriander and lime mayonnaise came and was cooked to perfection. Staying on the seafood theme, I went for the Salted Cod "à Brás" with confit egg yolk and it was the best salted cod I have tasted in my life. I also ordered the Iberian Pork Presa and the Grilled Vegetables with salsa Romesco and they were in perfect harmony with all of the other dishes in my selection. I still had room for dessert, so opted for the Portuguese almond cake with mandarin sorbet, which seemed to be the choice of most in the restaurant. Best meal I had in Lisbon.... absolutely phenomenal. The cuttlefish fries were one of the most delicious things I ever ate in my life, that was the best part of the meal. They were so soft and juicy and fresh. I can't describe that experience you MUST MUST MUST try it. The garlic shrimp was also great and so was the ceviche. TRY A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING! I had the rice with octopus as well - it came in a clay pot. Octopus rice that's what it was called, just remembered, but I wouldn't recommend it... I would have rather tried some more apps of something with egg because the eggs in Portugal are DEVINE. A wonderful end to our time in Portugal. The vibe at this place is very trendy yet inviting. The service was excellent - every single person who spoke with us was not only pleasant, but also charming, patient and knowledgeable. I think that is a large part of why I gave Tapisco four stars over three. We ordered a number of dishes. We started with the tomato toast and the jamon croquettes. The tomato toast was simple yet delicious. The seasoning was on point. The jamon croquettes were not something that I would've chosen, but my eating partner wanted it. It wasn't bad, but it's probably not something I'd order again. I was surprised, however, because, again, the seasoning was dead on - based simply on the dish itself, I expected it to be a bit salty, but it was not at all salty! Our mains included the cod with egg yolk and the green peas with chorizo and soft egg. Both were good. Not amazing, not bad, but just a simple good. They were definitely different and included aspects of what seemed to be authentic Portuguese flavors and styles, so I much appreciated that. For dessert we were told that the chocolate mousse is an absolute favorite, but we couldn't help but order the tangerine sorbet dessert. It came with an almond "cake," which had the consistency between a soft caramel chew and flan. I thought the cake and sorbet were very good. Overall, I really enjoyed having one of my final meals in Portugal here. Helped me remember all that I loved about the country during my short stay. I highly recommend it! read more

This place is authentic Portuguese! Really enjoyed the bacalhau with potatoes. My background as a Puerto Rican really made this dish special. I would definitely come back here. There were 5 of us and they said the wait would be 60-90 minutes, but that we could get drinks at their outdoor window while we waited. We said no problem and waited patiently. It took a little over 2 and a half hours to seat us. The outdoor window was unbearably slow. We could only sneak in 2 drinks during the 2 and a half hour wait. Never received an apology. The waiter brought us bread and olives -- we declined the olives, but asked for olive oil; they never brought it. They tried to bring us olives again later and we again declined. They brought us the drinks of our table-neighbors. The bathrooms used hand cloths instead of paper towels/air dryers, which would have been nice if there were any left -- it was just a big pile of used cloths so I had to do the 'shake my hands as fast as I can for 15 seconds' move. The food was good. The octopus & rice stew was my favorite but the patatas bravas were delicious too. The chocolate mousse was fantastic. Some items were only okay, but nothing was bad. We both took a bite each and had no comment, the flavors were just not there for us! But on the upside the rose was awesome and the rest of the food was insane. I am a mid 50's woman, tech professional from the Bay Area (San Francisco, CA) well traveled with a discerning palate. I have had many meals around the world including Lisbon. I came to Tapisco for the first time with my boyfriend (local Lisbonite professionally trained in the hotel / kitchen / service arts) to cap off a several week visit. My boyfriend summed it up best when he said the problem is when chefs become celebrities and the customer is not a celebrated guest - the front of the house function MIA. This restaurant lacks guest service leadership. The place was practically empty upon our arrival at 12:30. We loved the red touches and simple sophisticated vibe of the place. The tiles on the back wall and the gilded slicer on display were beautiful. THE FOOD - Best octopus salad I have ever had! The smoked paprika really came through! The sweet pea chorizo pot was savory but didn't wow me. The souplike format was unexpected and felt like it deserved a bowl vs a plate. The chorizo felt overcooked. The peas were perfectly al dente. NO FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGEMENT - We were told we could sit anywhere. Sounds wonderful on the surface but it soon became clear there was no dining room plan or strategy for how to intelligently orchestrate the seating of guests. Early into our meal, a group of 6 loud talking women were seated right next to us despite 4-5 empty tables at least one table away from us. Suddenly our romantic lunch became a mental filtering competition with a group of people who were obviously lacking in social savvy, i.e. kept their coats on, ate with large backpacks or purses on their laps, taking pictures of everything and waved at the staff to get their attention IMO, it is the restaurant's responsibility to have the maturity to delicately manage a lower decibel. If you do it artfully enough, they may hardly notice they are being kindly redirected. I'm not blaming the restaurant for the rude guests but I am blaming the restaurant for not realizing the piss poor choice of patron placement and not attending to this group. Leave formality at the door" the restaurant boasts - fine but manners still count!!!! RUSHED THE MEAL - Kept trying to remove things from our table prematurely from the covers through the end - the whole service was rushed! I was seriously tempted to walk out! From the start we said yes to the cover of olives and bread. With about 3 olives and 2 out of 10 pieces of bread eaten we were asked if they could be removed. We were asked SEVERAL TIMES if we would like to return our olives and bread. Our main course came out before we were halfway through the first. We were prodded several times sand finally gave in as our server simply brought out our big metal pot and uncovered it and stood over our table as WE re-plated our first course onto our individual plates. HOVERING - OMG!! The antithesis of attuned attention. It was as if they were being incentivized by # of Trips to the Table! Master the Art of Eye contact consciousness please! GROOMING - Our waitress Had a worn out tattered manicure - hello! You are serving food with your hands! Manicure not necessary. polished presentation, very! WINE SERVICE - While I was not expecting a Sommelier, I would expect our server To have the skill to adeptly open a bottle of wine. Please use a proper foil cutter not a knife! Don't leave a Raggy sharp edge. Sloppy / young / untrained ‍? SERVING UTENSILS - we ordered a sweet pea pot which is a thin brothy type of dish, our main dish meant to be shared and the "serving spoon" was a tea spoon! Serving a portion needed about 15 spoonfuls PLATING - a broth pot dish is difficult to eat on a plate. It deserves at least a low bowl.
