Beer culture is deeply entrenched in Germany, complete with a 500-year old beer purity law, Reinheitsgebot, that strictly limits a beer's composition to only water, barley, and hops, beer's most basic ingredients. Its continuing legacy manifests as an astonishing German loyalty to their own beers, the scarcity of foreign beers, and the long shadow it casts on any domestic craft brewing. Still, if you look, microbrews exist and Tap House is a great place to find some. Modeled after American craft beer pubs, it captures the style in a dark wood look, with an impressively long bar alongside a row of bar-high tables with benches. The nearly two dozen taps heavily feature Camba Bavaria beers, a prolific domestic craft brewer that not only experiments with innovative and decidedly un-German styles, but also brews classic German styles consistent with Reinheitsgebot. Other taps and the extensive bottle list feature European microbrews, offering a wide range of styles, including sours. There's a good Belgian classics section, and a few Mikkeller's from neighboring Denmark. All served in appropriate glassware. Food and snacks are basic and unremarkable. The "tapas" platter is a bread/pretzel basket and six jars of accompaniments: prosciutto, pepperoni, slaw, diced tomatoes/onions, and two dips. Pizza was light, essentially thin flatbread. Peanuts, in a generous portion, came in a paper cone. Chips are a bag of chips, balsamic vinegar-flavored. Well worth visiting for a break from classic German beer styles to try some German microbrews, but aside from a snack, plan on eating elsewhere. read more

This is a bierstube within easy walking distance of the Ostbahnhof. The service was excellent with all of the bar tenders speaking English and German (one spoke French and Spanish as well). The house beer is great and there are 199 more after that. The food is typical stube fair: bread, wurst, mustard, fried goodness, etc... Food service is fast. No dirndls or lederhosen, but this place has a local vibe and started filling with pretty, happy people around 6:30. Prices were fair for both food and beer and the bathroom was spotless. Highly recommend for the beer drinks with friends who don't drink beer. They have what you want and what everyone would be up for; yes I mean full bar. Plus their Bar food is on point but if you're not in the mood for bar food Taste is in the same area and you can order from them while hanging out a Tap House. I may have originally trekked to Munich for Oktoberfest, but I'm me so of course I searched for "craft beer bars" and found this gem! I love this type of establishment. Away from the city center, a short block from a train stop, and lots of local flavor. They had like 30 beers on tap of varying styles, as well as a crapton of pretty bottles. My friend and I sat at the bar and befriended some other folks -- both local and American. We ended up spending HOURS here. Our drinks focused on lambics for the most part, but I also tried a local collab cuvee. Really enjoyable stuff. And another thank-you to the nice guy who split his 2013 vintage Rodenbach bottle with us! Prices were fair. Vibe was mellow. All in all, a 5-star visit! If you're a fancy suds lover, don't leave Munich without stopping here. read more

I was told about this place some time ago by a friend and have been wanting to visit ever since. As it so happened, we were at a workshop with yelp just down the road from this place and decided to stop in and check it out. It is a really nice rustic old looking pub with lots of barrels used as decoration and also as tables. They have a huge blackboard on the back wall that has a list of beers that are on their menu or have had before. The place was empty when we got there (we were the first ones there) and we had the place to ourselves. It is located a short walk from the Ostbahnhof station and very easy to get to. The beer menu here is extensive and has beers from Germany, USA, Belgium, UK, Ireland and other places. There are multiple pale ales and of course a variety of dark beers. The prices are not too bad either. I cannot comment on the food however they do have a number of options. I would happily come back here anytime, just to try a few different beers and, whilst I love German beer, it is also nice to have a decent variety of beers from other countries. Similar to the Porterhouse in Ireland and the Delirium in Brussles this is a pub with a great variety of beers from around the world and a nice addition to the city of Munich. Ahhh, feels like home! Now I know that whenever I feel like having a good IPA on tap, I can rely on the Tap-House. The bar has a welcoming atmosphere with the friendly bartenders and relaxed ambience. Great place to go with friends to hang out and talk, but plan ahead as they do not take any reservations. It was packed on the Saturday night when we went, and I can totally see why. So many beers from so many countries. Not only that, but they have over 40 beers on tap! What a feat (especially in Munich, where most of the restaurants sell one of the Big Six breweries)! Needless to say, I tried and enjoyed one of the IPAs (Sly Fox Rt. 113) on tap. With pretzels and beer cheese dip, it was truly an enjoyable experience. We also tried the locally (meaning Bavarian) brewed Camba Pale and Amber Ales, and they were both easy to drink. Glad to see that there are more to Bavarian beers than Helles and Weissbier (although there is nothing wrong with them). read more

Yes, this is beer heaven when in Munich! Its a little outside the main city centre but jump on a tram or bus and go here. Its quite new too so it looks really fresh:) They have several types on tap and even more bottles. You can get a varied selection from various countries in Europe and they even have some from the US. We actually found ourselves sitting here from they opened until they closed and enjoyed it all the way, The staff was attentive and fluent in English so it wasnt a problem for our rusty German to order our beers, Pricese are good, I guess it depends where you are from. Normally this would be a very expensive evening here in Norway, but we came out on top and all was joy! Had troubles getting back to the hotel due to some strong beers on the end, but still, lovely evening and I really recommend you all to go here whilst in Munich. This place serves as a magnificent oasis of craft beer in the desert of macrobrews that is Munich. With an impressive draft list and an even more impressive list of bottles, there are some true gems here that simply cannot be found anywhere else in the city. The service is very attentive, and the general atmosphere of this place is great. I could happily spend hours here, as it's a very relaxed, laid-back environment. My only minor complaint is that the beer menu did not seem to be 100% current. Be sure to look beyond the actual menu! I was shocked to find Westbrook and Evil Twin beers here (both not on the menu). I spotted dozens of other bottles and cans in their cooler that were absent from their beer list, as well as 8-12 items on draft (on the chalkboards on the wall) that also were absent from the list. read more

However, there are several breweries I can't find in San Diego that are available here. Tap House is really like the best of American craft beer all pushed into one local bar (not a bad thing). Besides the American craft beer, Tap House has a nice selection of beers from all over the world. The food is basic, but seems to work. Tap-House was one of the highlights to our visit to Munchen. I had heard about this place from craft beer lovers in my city, so it was already on our list of places to go before we arrived across the pond. Hubby and I did a great job of enjoying Reinheinsgebot beer in Germany, but it was a nice break to enjoy some more innovative brewing in the city as well. The place was standing room only at about 630pm, so make sure you get there early for a table or a stool at the bar. They serve almost ever beer that Camba makes as well as many from the UK, the rest of Europe and a few from the US. The Camba trippel was on tap and delicious. They have about 4 coolers of bottles that you can choose from as well. Please order the bier chili. You won't be sorry. read more

What a great find in Munich. I love the beer halls but sometimes you want something more like a cherry stout or a bock or an IPA. This place has a wide selection of bottled and tap beers. This is great spot to grab a beer! They have such an extensive menu that it can be a little overwhelming, but everything I tried was great. The place has a great vibe, super relaxed and lively, even on a cold Tuesday night! The absolute best thing about this place is the service! They are so friendly and attentive and even take EC cards. The only con is the seating is mostly bar stools with no backs, so it gets uncomfortable after a while. But this is just a minor detailed compared to how cool this place is. Check it out! read more

Waitress really know what they talk about and give excellent recommendations. So if you don't know what to drink, just ask them Food is okay. But what do you expect? They focus on beer and not on food. But if you are hungry, you can just get a soup or some nice small dishes. I always have been waiting for a place like this to open. I can't go often enough. This is a review I wish I could give 6 stars! Seriously, if you don't already have plans this week, then get off your butt and go here. If you DO already have plans this week, then cancel them and go here instead. Words can not even begin to describe how pumped I am that there is finally a place in Munich with so many beer options....and not just the typical German beer. This is high quality CRAFT beer. If you're a "beer person" then this is certainly the place for you. The menu breaks it down quite simply, sorting the beers by type and location of the brewery, so you --hopefully-- won't be as intimidated with the menu. I'm personally a fan of a good ol'fashioned IPA, so the first beer I went for the UrbanChestnut Hopfen. It didn't let me down! The bartenders were shockingly quick, friendly, and helpful considering how busy Tap-House was on a Saturday night. There wasn't an empty seat in the house and even the standing room was full....but that didn't stop me from receiving all of my beers within a minute or so of ordering. If, after looking at the menu, you still have no idea what you want, the bartenders WILL help you decide (and not be jerks about it). My friend and I were lucky to grab two seats at the bar, and we watched the guy serving us get asked over and over again what he likes to drink.....seems like a fair enough question right? Well, sort of I guess, but when it comes to beer there are so many types and peoples' tastes can be drastically different. When I worked at a bar known for mainly serving beer, I always greeted this question with a really sarcastic answer, so I really have to give the bartender two thumbs up for never being a snob. I also thought the atmosphere was really rad. You're not going to find the same crowd you would find at most cocktail bars in Munich here. Everyone was laid back and didn't mind moving over a little bit so you could find a spot. It sort of looks like an old cellar, but it didn't smell like one ;) I think I've officially found my new hangout! p.s- The limited bar menu hits the spot. While I am very excited to have a place like this in Munich, I find it hard to give them five stars, as I think there's too muchb room for improvement. Firstly, while the food I have had there isn't horrible by any means, it's not awesome either, and the offerings are few. Secondly, while most waiters seem very knowledgeable about the beer (and speak great English, too), it has happened to me twice on three visits that an order was lost (once a beer order, once an entire food order for the table). Improve on those while keeping the rest great, and I can virtually promise a raise in stars. As for the beers, the selection is nice, a mix of German beers and beers from the UK, USA, Belgium, Denmark and other countries with a healthy craft beer movement. Camba Bavaria are of course overrepresented, as they run the place, but many of their beers are interesting, so that's nothing to complain about. If you enjoy beers outside of the standard Munich types, you will definitely want to go here, even before they fix the food and the service. read more

If you're an American and want a mix and you're homesick this would be great, I got a kick out of hearing people order beers from my hometown while in Germany. They had a lengthy selection and I was glad I got to try rauchbier that they don't sell in the US since I didn't make it to Bamberg, so definitely worth the trip. My experiences in Germany with beer have generally been disappointing. Coming from San Francisco, I am used to a wide range of styles and exciting big beers, from super hopped IPAs to saisons to imperial stouts and porters. But when I come to Munich it's all light and sweeter beers. No offense, but to me this is like a bud light. I found what has to be the best beer hall in Munich! Tons of local and international beers of all styles. Even has a ton from Cali and the Pacific Northwest (like old Rasputin from north coast). Despite having 200 beers and being one of the few places offering Belgian beer in Munich, the staff are incredibly unfriendly and not willing to help customers. Menu features many sections of beer and included among the varieties offered is a section specifically for fruit beer. I chose what I thought was a normal lager from the draught offerings and received an incredibly sweet Belgian cherry beer. When I asked the server why this beer was not listed as cherry in either English or German I was 'informed' that the Belgian brand implied the flavour and I should have known what I ordered. I was not offered a free replacement. As the others in my party ordered one of the only main courses offered - I decided to order some chips, as I already knew not to expect much as a vegetarian. Well, the chips I ordered were instead potato crisps, which would not have been so bad, but they were paprika flavour. Nothing on the menu in either language mentioned this. When I enquired with the server I was again 'informed' that '80%' of the time when one orders chips/crisps in Bavaria/Germany that they will be paprika flavoured. I can tell you as a long-term resident of this state and as the spouse of a Bavarian - that this is not the case and my husband and I will never - ever return to the tap-house. Would not recommended. Stay away unless you enjoy terrible service and b-side offerings without explanation or apology. read more
