Munich has no shortage of beer halls, and a wide variety of restaurants, but we wanted a pub. A no-frills, come-as-you-are pub. The Royal Dolores was supposed to be that. It can be a bit tricky to find, if you come in the wrong door (which we did). Luckily, the nice man at the host stand walked us to the entrance of the Dolores, and told the waitress in the doorway that we were looking for a table. She got us squared away fairly quickly, which we appreciated. We were at one of the tables by the door, and it was warm. It was such a good start, but it all went downhill from there. We were seated at about the same time as a family of four, who were given the table next to us. We both placed orders at about the same time, and we both spent the rest of our evenings trying (and failing) to flag down the waitress. We each ordered a Löwenbräu Dunkel to start, and decided to share two of their tapas plates: the Dream of Schnitzel and the Fromage de France. I lost track of the amount of time it took for our beers to be delivered to our table, and stopped trying to track time when it came to the food. The Dolores isn't very big, and they weren't all that busy when we got there, so we were at a loss as to why the service was so bad. At one point, the mom at the table next to us leaned over to ask for our help flagging down the waitress, if we saw her before they did. The Dunkel wasn't that great - it had the flat flavor that always reminds me of a brown ale, though this draft did have just a tiny bit more flavor. My husband didn't really like the beer at all. He had planned on ordering a different beer to finish the night, but with the aforementioned missing waitress, it was impossible to do. The Schnitzel was delightful, and the cheeses were good (the sauces they served with the cheeses stole the show, to be honest). I wasn't particularly hungry at the time, but my husband wanted something to nibble on while we reclined and drank - that was the plan when we arrived, at least. I know we weren't the only ones bothered by the terrible service - the family next to us made it a point to tell the person who finally stopped to help us - not our waitress, by the way - about the amount of time it took for us all to receive our orders, and the fact that we were ignored the entire evening. It's unfortunate, too, because we both really wanted to like the Dolores, just given its location and the fact that it was the closest thing to a pub we could find at that time. It really only takes one thing to ruin a night for people, though.

Both were excellent and the beer was also quite good. I had their signature wheat beer and then an Oktoberfest beer (because why not) and really enjoyed it. We got right in after maybe a 5 min wait and we were seated quickly tomorrow private table upstairs.There were 5 of us so it was very spacious and not too loud. We enjoyed beer and wine first and then we enjoyed several dishes that are in the pictures here. All were very good as most food in Munich at these restaurants is. Our server was very polite and she took our orders and suggested some items as well. Food came without too much delay and was very tasty. We stayed and enjoyed for at least 2 hours then back to the festivities once they cleared the bomb threat and started letting everyone back in. Having had my fill of beer, I just wanted a glass of seltzer (or mineral water or whatever you choose to call it). I wanted a giant glass of water...and the awesome bartender set me up with a half liter glass full of sparkling water. So I had my water, which helped a lot and now I needed food. I know, not Bavarian but at that point, all I'd had all day since breakfast was one of these ginormous pretzels and the skin off of some roast chicken. The food was tasty (as far as I can recall) and it really helped getting some food on my tummy. Aside from the water and food, what made this place great was the service. The bartender, whose name I regret that I didn't get, was amazing. She was so nice and friendly and really took care of me. Paulaner is the beer of Munich. So is their beer halls. This one has some unique different plates…read morethan the other traditional ones and why my colleagues and I always stop here. It was renovated from a previous hall and the decor is very nice, not to mention the Christmas decor. They even added a nice sitting area for groups of 5-8 where you have your own self serve beer tap at the table. What more do you need? They also have multiple private rooms. It is one of my top favs in downtown Munich. Will be back with larger group to try that table tap.

It's looks quite small from the outside but, the moment you step down into the bar you realise its a decent size place with lots of seating and of course, standing areas. It's truly an International bar / pub. When we arrived at 9 it was packed and there were over a hundred people there. The ambience is wonderful and, for sport lovers there are three big screens with different games on, both local and international. If you are not into sports there is plenty of other distractions on offer like reasonably priced drinks and dart boards or, talking to strangers ;-)) Of course if you are there with friends / family you can talk to them too ;-)) There a variety of local and international beers on offer and, some craft beer also. Lots of long drink options and the prices for long drinks are just slightly more than the beers, a welcome change to long drink prices in the rest of Munich. The staff are international and speak good English. The service was very friendly and for their first night on the job did well to keep customers happy. There will be a food menu however tonight it was finger food on the house :-) There are a few kinks to work out and over time the menu for drinks and food will expand and change. Pub quiz / Trivia night is planned for Monday nights starting the 23rd of March and other regular events will develop as time goes on. We will be back for pub quiz for sure and come with friends for certain sports events and so on. A great addition to Schwabing.
