One of the highlights was karaoke. I love live entertainment and opportunities to participate rather than simply watch, and Kilian's provided exactly the kind of lively, sociable experience I enjoy. I had a great time singing songs including the B-52s' "Love Shack" and "Build Me Up Buttercup." There's something special about enjoying familiar music in a pub while traveling in another country. Music brings people together, and karaoke is a wonderful way to become part of the evening's entertainment. What I particularly appreciate about places like Kilian's is the opportunity to relax, have fun, and enjoy a casual night out. When traveling, some of my favorite memories come not from famous landmarks but from spontaneous evenings enjoying music and good company. Munich has plenty of wonderful attractions, but an entertaining night at Kilian's is the kind of experience that makes a vacation especially memorable. If you're visiting Munich and enjoy a lively pub atmosphere, particularly on a karaoke night, Kilian's is definitely worth checking out! Five stars! Molly's is packed every evening of the week, which should tell you something about a) the loving loyalty of the patrons who come here, and b) the wonderfulness of getting to spend a couple hours here. Reservations are always recommended The food is spot on, and the bangers and mash are the best in Munich. I'd recommend against the burgers, and would suggest instead going either for any one of the Irish dishes or for one of the curries. The bacon (for the burgers) should in particular be avoided because it comes out more steamed than fried and is kind of limp and chewy as a result. The breakfast is REALLY good here, and a perfect way to cure a hangover. Needless to say, the whiskey selection here is excellent. The staff is almost always really friendly and courteous, though there is one girl behind the bar there that I'd rather not be served by, if it can be avoided. Everyone else is great though, and really make you feel almost like you're just hanging out in your own living room. Actually, that's just it. Molly's is the place you go when you just want to relax and feel as comfortable as if you were in your own living room. But this living room happens to offer Guinness, food, and whiskey.

Having had my fill of beer, I just wanted a glass of seltzer (or mineral water or whatever you choose to call it). The bartender, whose name I regret that I didn't get, was amazing. She was so nice and friendly and really took care of me. I'm sure I looked like another tipsy American tourist but she was a sweetheart. She had short hair and glasses and maybe some tattoos. Anyway, she's the real deal. There was some music that was nice too. Overall, a nice, friendly, clean and welcoming place. To be frank, it can be intimidating to enter a big German beer hall by yourself because it seems everyone knows one another and you're an outsider. One of the things I enjoy most about traveling is discovering establishments with their own character and personality. While Munich is famous for its traditional Bavarian beer halls, it's also wonderful to find a welcoming Irish pub where visitors can relax, socialize, and enjoy a lively evening. Scholars Lounge offered the kind of casual, friendly pub atmosphere that I particularly enjoy. It's a nice change of pace from sightseeing and a wonderful way to spend an evening while exploring a new city. I especially appreciate places where the atmosphere is part of the experience.
