    Love This Place! (06/01/23)

Found this cozy tavern on my first night in Munich. An hour or more wait for their packed patio. Opted for and was seated immediately inside. Impeccable was the service. Time stood still here with our great sips of beer; hearty and delicious "Rinder Goulash"; and, their decadent "Karamellisierter KAISERSCHMARRN mit Zwetschgenroster und Apfelmus". As to each city/town I visit, Zwickl is the one spot I look forward to repeatedly in coming back to! CHEERS!

We enjoyed our lunch outside in their small seating area. The tables are very close together but there is inside seating if you need a little more elbow room. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad with chicken breast and mushrooms. The mushrooms were very good! My husband had the meatballs. He gave them a thumbs up. The server was attentive and his English is way better than my German. The only time he seemed to stumble was when I asked about the wines offered. He could not really answer me in English so I just picked one and it was great.

The food was hearty and the portions were large. Great for a traditional Bavarian meal. Its tucked away on a pedestrian street which gives the experience a calm and comfortable vibe. Service is friendly!

Very quaint, nice atmosphere with delicious food. The schnitzel was very tasty but huge portion so I couldn't finish it. I would recommend this restaurant!

Only inside seats available. Typical German service manner. So American tourists, shut up and go or seat here, keep sipping beers and wait for your sausage. Coincidentally, the inside tables got 4 groups of American tourists so very nice ambiance

Thought about giving this a 4/5 since there were really only 2 veggie options, but the one I had was AMAZING. I wasn't even that hungry and I absolutely devoured the Spinach and Cheese Pflanzerl. The other vegetarian option (other than salads) was the Käsespatzle (classic) but that was generally the vegetarian option at a ton of other places so I opted for the Pflanzerl and was NOT disappointed. It also came with a salad which was SUPER good. I honestly don't even like salads that much but this salad was crunchy and umami and paired so well with the Pflanzerl. Best meal I had in Munich! We also got some Glühwein to end our meal and it was good! Very nice and orangey. A classic :)

Zwickl is your standard Bavarian pub. It seems they're a bit cozier place than the others. They have a small inside and outside seating. One thing they are known for is their "Pflanzerl" or "meatballs." So if you wanna try some good Bavarian meatballs, this is the place to go. They do have other snitzels and stuff on their menu, but it seems like most of the menu is meatballs. Don't come in here looking for sausages, I don't think they have them. For appetizer, I tried their bread and cheese or Bauernbrot mit Obazda. Obazda is Bavarian cheese that reminded me a lot of Pimento Cheese. It's soft and butter like with a lot of flavor. You can get this at most Bavarian places, and Zwickl's didn't disappoint. I tried their Zwickl Pflanzerl. It is pork and beef meatballs with Potato salad. The meatballs were pretty tasty. It was nice and tender, and I loved the flavor. They packed the meatballs dense. It's not a "loose" meatball. The potato salad was good too. Their Schweinbraten was delicious as well. It was cooked perfectly and was nice and tender and full of flavor from its gravy. I also liked their prezel dumplings. The service was typical German, but I felt they seemed a LOT more friendly and chill than the other places. Like most places in its vicinity, their English was great, better than my German. And they do have English on their menu.

Amazing beer, outside seating, tucked away off the beaten path!! Great place. My Paulaner Hefe and my wife's Furstenberg Pilsner were both delicious. To eat we had the Truffled Potato Soup with croutons and the Bavarian Noodles with cheese, deep fried onions, and salad. They were exceptional with the two of us tho king that the soup may have been the best soup that we have ever tasted. Highly recommend!!

This place had such rave reviews. I was quite underwhelmed by it all. The service was sub par, the food was one of the worst throughout my vacation, and it was quite pricey. The spatzle was bland and the sauce from the goulash just made it super soggy and unappetizing. The meatballs were not spectacular or memorable. I wouldn't come back here.

If you are in Munich then this places is a Must! Great food, good vibes and a cozy atmosphere. The bartender was great and friendly, helps that he speaks 6-7 different languages. Meatballs were great, spinach balls were amazing and the noodles (Mac-n-Cheese) was very very good. This is a hidden gem and very deserving of 5 stars.

A great spot to relax outside and drink a few beers! Zwickl is just tucked around the main square, and offers some great outdoor seating to enjoy your experience. My wife and I loved the Paulaner Hefe's and constantly find ourselves wishing we were back in Munich for those amazing beers.

I originally found this restaurant on tripadvisor. It's always difficult to know your schedule and seek out a restaurant in advance when you are travelling. We were jetlagged and it was 3:30 pm on a Saturday. We stumbled upon it and I remembered reading the favorable reviews so popped in. At first they hesitated about serving us without a reservation. Even at such a non conventional dining hour, they were pretty full inside, but when they asked if we would be eating they accommodated us. We tried the 3 meatball combo which was enough to feed two people in itself. We tried the spinach and cheese, the shrimp and the chicken. They were all fantastic. Each had such a unique flavor but probably our favorite was the chicken which tasted like a delicious schnitzel. Each meatball came with its own side and was presented beautifully. We also order the kasespatzle which was like the finest mac and cheese I've ever had in my life! The service was actually really good. Our waitress actually advised us not to order the soup as it was way too much food. Good advice as we couldn't finish everything. Would definitely return!

Friendly service and very good food. Was worried it would be touristy but filled with locals and local charm.

Having had my fill of beer, I just wanted a glass of seltzer (or mineral water or whatever you choose to call it). Now, don't get me wrong, I love Germany but everywhere they seem to serve water in tiny glasses. I wanted a giant glass of water...and the awesome bartender set me up with a half liter glass full of sparkling water. So I had my water, which helped a lot and now I needed food. Luckily, even in my state I was able to read the menu and see they had a cheeseburger and fries platter. I know, not Bavarian but at that point, all I'd had all day since breakfast was one of these ginormous pretzels and the skin off of some roast chicken. The food was tasty (as far as I can recall) and it really helped getting some food on my tummy. Aside from the water and food, what made this place great was the service. The bartender, whose name I regret that I didn't get, was amazing. She was so nice and friendly and really took care of me. I'm sure I looked like another tipsy American tourist but she was a sweetheart. She had short hair and glasses and maybe some tattoos. Anyway, she's the real deal. There was some music that was nice too. Overall, a nice, friendly, clean and welcoming place. To be frank, it can be intimidating to enter a big German beer hall by yourself because it seems everyone knows one another and you're an outsider. Coming here was the exact opposite...I felt welcome right away. Definitely recommend this place!

I'd give four stars for the food and beverage, and zero stars for the service…read more We really just wanted to find a local pub to post up at, with a good beer list and maybe a small selection of nibbles. Munich has no shortage of beer halls, and a wide variety of restaurants, but we wanted a pub. A no-frills, come-as-you-are pub. The Royal Dolores was supposed to be that. It can be a bit tricky to find, if you come in the wrong door (which we did). Luckily, the nice man at the host stand walked us to the entrance of the Dolores, and told the waitress in the doorway that we were looking for a table. She got us squared away fairly quickly, which we appreciated. We were at one of the tables by the door, and it was warm. It was such a good start, but it all went downhill from there. We were seated at about the same time as a family of four, who were given the table next to us. We both placed orders at about the same time, and we both spent the rest of our evenings trying (and failing) to flag down the waitress. We each ordered a Löwenbräu Dunkel to start, and decided to share two of their tapas plates: the Dream of Schnitzel and the Fromage de France. I lost track of the amount of time it took for our beers to be delivered to our table, and stopped trying to track time when it came to the food. The Dolores isn't very big, and they weren't all that busy when we got there, so we were at a loss as to why the service was so bad. At one point, the mom at the table next to us leaned over to ask for our help flagging down the waitress, if we saw her before they did. The Dunkel wasn't that great - it had the flat flavor that always reminds me of a brown ale, though this draft did have just a tiny bit more flavor. My husband didn't really like the beer at all. He had planned on ordering a different beer to finish the night, but with the aforementioned missing waitress, it was impossible to do. The Schnitzel was delightful, and the cheeses were good (the sauces they served with the cheeses stole the show, to be honest). I wasn't particularly hungry at the time, but my husband wanted something to nibble on while we reclined and drank - that was the plan when we arrived, at least. I know we weren't the only ones bothered by the terrible service - the family next to us made it a point to tell the person who finally stopped to help us - not our waitress, by the way - about the amount of time it took for us all to receive our orders, and the fact that we were ignored the entire evening. It's unfortunate, too, because we both really wanted to like the Dolores, just given its location and the fact that it was the closest thing to a pub we could find at that time. It really only takes one thing to ruin a night for people, though.
