I was so surprised by the selection of games in this store. It's small but so well packed with the best games. I wish their stuff was restocked more often or kept more stock in general (missed out on my opportunity to get voidfall!!) but it's a small business so I understand. Had a discrepancy regarding the amount of cash I paid vs what was tacked off on the receipt but after I emailed, the owner reached out to me directly and solved the issue and was so professional and kind. I can't get enough of this store and I can't recommend it enough. I'll be a customer for life. I can't wait for Tanuki Games expand and open more stores! I do wish there was a spend x$ and get free shipping option because I live pretty far and I'd like to order a bunch of games but it is a nice experience to browse in person too. read more

A cozy store with lots and lots of games! Currently, masks are required, and there is a sign recommending the use of the provided hand sanitizer before picking up/touching the games. There is also a 12-person limit inside the store at one single time. They have a large variety of games for kids and adults alike. The store itself is not the biggest, but all four walls are lined from floor to ceiling with games. There are additional tables with piles of games as well. It's definitely one of the largest collections of board games I've ever encountered at a store. Even with their enormous collection, the games are organized and sorted neatly. Incredibly solid board game store plus a decent selection of miniatures, including Warhammer, AD&D, and Star Wars. No wargames, per se, and no tables for gaming, but the selection is probably the best in the greater Austin area. Owner and workers could be more engaged. The Gaming Goat is relatively new, over a year old. It's located across the street from Vigilante Gaming Bar, but they're not a restaurant and they don't serve alcohol. It's similar to Tribe where they sell some snacks and drinks from Costco. They also permit you to bring in outside food and drinks from other restaurants. They sell games at 30% below MSRP for $60 and above. It's 20% below MSRP for less than $60. They don't sell Secret Hitler because their distributor doesn't have a relationship with the publisher. They sold out of Champions of Midgard. Other than that, they carry more inventory than Mage's Sanctum, Tribe, Emerald Tavern, and Dragon's Lair. My sister in law's boyfriend was able to find Azul, which was sold out at every other gaming store in Austin. read more

My girlfriend and I booked a Getaway cabin with the intention of disconnecting from the outside world. Really cute place to hold some type of nerdy tournaments. It's spacious to maybe hold about 40 people playing cards or 20 doing something along the lines of dnd. I asked about a game which the guy behind the counter knew and it's rare and he tried to find it but no avail and told us to try across the street at vigilantes. Not many people or places will divert customers because that'll of course lead to less business for them. But he didn't mind them at all. So tldr; come here for games and hold some type of tournament here to support local and small businesses that carry pride over their stuff than the bigger people who care nothing about you but their wallet. read more

My family and I ran across this shop while looking for a restaurant in the area. We stopped in to kill some time and I was transported back to my youth l, before my Atari 2600 turned me into a video gamer. From old classic board games like Cosmic Encounter to newer games such as Settlers of Catan, they have a great selection in a small area. The staff was unobtrusive, so I can't speak for their knowledge of what they sell, but we weren't in need of the help. We made a few purchases. I bought Takenoko for the same price as listed on Amazon and didn't notice any major differences on our other purchases. So, if you like analog games, check it out. read more

Truly, a jarring experience walking in for the first time and being exposed to the HUGE selection of board games they have to offer. Formerly known as "The Gaming Goat", Tanuki Games offers, in my opinion, the best shopping experience for board games. There is truly something for everyone in there, and it is categorically organized so you are not backtracking around the store looking for specific games, but taking in all what they have to offer. I've purchased 3 different board games here (one of which was an absolute deal) and I never feel as if they are gatekeeping, pompous, or condescending in any way, which is a problem I feel plagues most stores of this genre. Board games are meant to be enjoyed by anyone and they truly have a board/card/party/ANY game for everyone, which I appreciate. I'm so glad I discovered this store! It's well-stocked with tons of popular titles and some rare games as well. They can place custom orders if they don't have what you're looking for in the store. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for a recommendation when I visited and ended up learning about a bunch of new games. My wish list just got a lot longer! There are several large tables for gaming. It looks like a fun and chill place to play, especially if they allow folks to bring in snacks from the nearby cafes. There's lots of free parking too! Then the cool guy working talked up a few other games I was eyeing and they all sounded fun so I grabbed more. They have a really great layout for shopping and it makes it easy to find new games. I love that this place exists and we're getting more and more great gaming spaces in Austin. Their selection of games for the size was quite impressive. Sure they have the staples that everyone knows and loves that help get new players hooked, but they also have plenty of more obscure titles if your game night has gotten stale. I saw one game I've wanted for a while but have never seen in person and was so happy to see it I didn't even bother to comparison shop on my phone first. Very friendly staff, Chris greeted us when we came in and asked if we needed any help. For a smaller store, there was a great selection of games over a wide variety of mechanics. We stayed to play a game of Downforce and ended up buying it....for $31.99. Which is a great price at a FLGS. Chris said they are trying to be competitive with the internet and it looks like it.
