Greetings! My long overdue review for Tanner's is finally here! I visit this place while working so my time is limited, so my apologies! For me, this place hits home. I'm a bus operator and layover down the street, so this is the perfect 'usaaa' place for me to unwind and just be in one with the abyss. Its my peaceful and relaxation time from all the up & down chaos from the city streets, as I drive through it lol. I do like the ambiance. It is definitely a modern style luxury. Not too fancy, not too poor of a setting, it's just right. Being shoreline close to the beach, I think is pretty cool! I'm normally there in the mornings and the staff is always great and ready to help you. I even phone order sometimes to beat the line and time and they are always great over the phone as well. One thing that I really like is that they openly answer any of your silly questions you may have. I love coffee, but I'm not a coffee connoisseur and I know it can go far deep and there's some coffee places where you walk in and you automatically feel like you should already know what you want? Well this really isn't the place. I would say their coffee is a little different and I finally had the courage to ask why and it's their espresso. It just always taste a little bit more stronger no matter how I ask for the latte, which I don't mind. I just didn't know it was espresso being used on the latte. Let's dive into the food; If you're reading this part, I'm assuming I still have your awesome attention so I'll get right to it, the 'Green Eggs & Ham Sandwich on a jalapeno bagel hits 10/10! You should definitely give that one a whirl. I also switch it up and go regular croissant as well which also tastes really good. Now I don't know why they don't add mayonnaise to their sandwiches but be mindful to ask for that if that is your go to as well. I finally tried their pastries on my last visit. The chocolate chip cookie does have a unique taste, which I really enjoyed and it was not too crunchy yet still somewhat soft, which made every bite really good. I think I got the loaf of bread too, but I might've saved it for my mom :) If you're a regular, I would recommend getting in their point system. After signing up, I got a free pastry on my third visit. They give you cashback rewards in store credit. Btw, i did notice they moved their menu around a little bit since the time I took their menu pictures, so don't hold them to it lol They are dog friendly btw! So bring them on that nice walk or trip. You may not see it, but they do have a restroom for customers that you can use. And one of my lovely things I like about it is that it's always, clean! I'm sad that I got relocated to another division, but in the near future once I'm back, I will definitely be back, thanks! read more

Tried to fulfill my new caffeine cravings with a latte from Tanner's. I decided to be very adventurous and try their Butterfinger mocha latte, which was pretty solid. I appreciate their variety, but missed the speciality taste and flavors. Nice spot near the beach with a lot of locals working on the weekend. read more

Dang how am I forgetting to review places. It's cool and by the beach, slightly more than the coffee shop across the street I noticed. Pet friendly. They have flyers in back but lots are out of date so unsure how often people look. It's right by where you wait for your stuff. I've had the 7 layer bar (too good) and waffle (just tastes like the grocery store ones) so far. Black tea is unreasonably good for just being black. It tastes tropical. Location is the main draw. This place gets crowded so expect to wait cuz they don't staff the place it seems, oh well. read more

Coffee taste was good, I ordered a vanilla latte and it was not too sweet but had a good balance of flavors. Before being published, this review underwent a number of revisions! To begin with, I've been visiting Tanners for the past fifteen years! I adore this small, rustic establishment. Which, since the restoration, is vivid in its bright white exterior all while the interior is the same! Parking: Plenty and easily accessible thankfully! The walkability to neighboring restaurants and the beach is excellent also! Ambiance: It's a cozy spot! Usually has numerous people occupying tables and chairs: working, reading, studying, so better arrive early if you want to grab a seating. It's totally a low key vibe. Everyone is in the zone! I appreciate that, especially since the environment itself is not corporate. Drinks / Beverages: Tanner (whomever he is) was impermeable to criticism; up until 2018 that is...E-V-E-R-Y ice blended drink was flawlessly balanced and smooth! Texturized with "the right amount of bite and crunch in every sip", thick, the way a frappe or ice blender should be! The multiple layers of flavors were always evenly dispersed too! Creamsicle, Machata, White Mocha, and Chocolate Mocha, ALL delicious, even the European Cocoa and Macchiato were soo on point Tanner was easily a favorite GO-TO. However... IN 2018 I experienced more than a few unbalanced and watered down drinks. Gross. 2024? I gave them 2-3 more tries to NO AVAIL. Sadly, as a near and dear friend who came out for the first time put it "it's just the local coffee shop". I was defending Tanner to the teeth for its memory was so much sweeter than its reality. Whomp Whomp. Retraining the barista? Maybe. They all have a great personality! Super sweet but idk it sort of sucks when basic drinks are not met to coffee shop standards! RIP Tanners COFFEE SHOP (not the man himself), just the shell of a building that held memories of quenching my thirst on hot summer afternoons and warming up the soul on a cold winter morning. The interior is warm, comfortable and full of pictures from the early days around Playa del Ray, some modern paintings and leather couches and chairs that makes a leisurely stay quite welcoming. I came here to grab a lunch sandwich and drink; I was warmly greeted by a young male staff and took my order. I ordered a Cold Brew (M) and Turkey Egg Cheese (+ tomatoes and spinach) croissant sandwich. My cold brew was smooth and refreshing while my sandwich was delightful, healthy and satisfying. This dovetails the experience that I had in this coffee shop. Prices seem reasonable for the area and match the quality of their drinks/food. Really wanted to like this place. I appreciate that it's a small business, and that the staff was really friendly and the place is clean. However the coffee and food are awful, being completely honest. My husband and I both got lattes and ended up throwing them away after a few sips. We also each got bagel sandwiches which were wildly overpriced and just plain bad - mine had a very weird aftertaste (and the spinach used on it was yellowing!) and his had no flavor. Tanner's is a familiar style of small coffee shop. Comfortable mis-matched furniture inside, with comfortable music. In addition to a full range of hot and cold drinks they have a nice menu of made-to-order sandwiches (mostly on bagels--which I tend to like!). The staff are easy-going and friendly and the service is reasonably quick (at least at noon on a Saturday). My Rise and Shine Bagel sandwich was fresh and tasty and my regular coffee was just right. They also have outdoor, sidewalk tables. One downside can be traffic noise there--since they are right in the heart of Playa del Rey. But I like the outdoor environment. All I ordered is an iced americano with almond milk and every time, they take my order, forget the milk, and they get mad like I'm a burden when I tell them they (again) forgot the milk. Additionally. DO NOT ORDER FOOD - they don't even understand their own menu and when properly ordered from, they argue with you about what the meal included when it's written on their own menu. Laidback coffee shop in Playa that's good for a post-surf sesh. Came here on a Saturday morning around 9:30am and there was a short line, but it moved quickly. Indoor/outdoor seating is available. There's a parking lot on the side with paid parking, but if you're there for a quick stop, there is a row of spots for ~20 min free parking. Credit cards accepted. I got a hot matcha latte with oat milk and it was a bit weak, but luckily not too sweet. The cashier seemed a bit distracted so I needed to repeat my order. They do have food available (I.e, bagels, pastries, etc) as well as smoothies. The acai one is thick and well-blended. Overall, it's a relatively quick in-and-out local spot. read more

Ok Tanner's team, you definitely deserve 5 stars for making my perfect morning soy cappuccino and for your beautiful smiles, however for Tanner's Coffee shop it is a 4 stars as they do lack vegan options and management would not respond on any of my concerns for some time now. Spot is indeed very cute, with amazing atmosphere, where you will meet many friendly neighbors or you can choose a private corner where you can work on your computer. But dear management, please, please, please, bring vegan pastries back. Have been going every morning, for a month now, and no vegan pastries available. A great locals spot. Perfect for a quick pick me up before or after a morning run or surf on the beach. Service is always good and the food and smoothies aren't bad either. Don't expect anything too fancy though there's no special menu items made with camels milk or the like here just a usual menu of coffee and espresso drinks along with some breakfast food and smoothies. This review is for their almond milk latte, hot. I have had drip coffee here a few times but was craving a latte today which is why we stopped. I was disappointed they were out of oatmilk because that was the exact taste I was craving but went with the almond milk. It was hot and it was a latte but I don't think this spot is good for lattes, maybe just drip coffee. Interior has always appeared very busy to me, even after their remodel. There's a parking lot next door that almost always has spots, and tanners gives 1 hour free parking.
