After describing to her the Anthropologie look I truly desired, she literally changed the dress within 30 minutes, only using a straight-edged razor. With me standing in the dress. I repeat. Straight-edge razor. 30 minutes. Me in the freaking dress. Xiao-Yin made the time for me until I felt happy with the new look. She played out so many options for me. And she never pressured me to take her suggestions. We decided to take the alterations a step further and create a fun short reception dress because I decided to purchase another dress, my DREAM dress, at Tangs. Kenny was so accommodating in booking my late-evening appointments. I usually had 7pm or 8pm appointments since I work during the day. I came in with a dress I absolutely hated because my dress shop ruined it after sending it out for alterations with their "tailor and in-house dress designer". As a bride who is likely nervous or anxious about dress alterations, do yourself a favor and just take it to Tangs! I purchased my dress in my home state of NJ but needed to get alterations done here in VA so after lots of research I settled on taking it to Tangs in March 2020. The day of my first fitting my bridesmaid had to cancel on me last minute so I was there alone and definitely a little overwhelmed and I think Tang picked up on that because she quickly reassured me that I was in very good hands. One week later, COVID hits, and I wind up having to postpone my wedding an entire year! Tang held onto my dress the whole time and kept it safe which was one less thing to worry about. Fast forward to April of this year when I finally return to see my dress again and find out I lost enough weight to take it in another 1/2 size! This was no problem for Tang and her team and during my final fitting everything was perfect. She wound up taking the dress in, hemming, making a gorgeous bustle, adding cups (which boosted my nonexistent cleavage!), and designed a custom face mask to match my dress. She also helped my bridesmaid fix a two inch gap in the back of her dress three weeks before the wedding! After waiting so long for my big day to finally arrive I was again, rightfully stressed out and nervous, but Tang gave me a pep talk about how amazing I looked and how wonderful my wedding would be. Tang made me feel super comfortable from the moment I walked into her store, and made the 45 minute drive absolutely worth it. First and foremost Tang knows her stuff, she took a look at my dress and made recommendations that made sense and made the dress fit that much more perfectly. Her attitude and demeanor is exactly what every bride needs, she is blunt, to the point and knows what it takes to make your dress look like it was custom made. She makes every customer seem like her number one priority, like she was altering her own daughter's dress. Tang's pricing is also reasonable, she was about $200 less than the boutique I bought my dress from. I had my dress hemmed, taken in at the waist and back (4 inches worth!), cups added in, and the belt changed. I knew my wedding dress was The One faster than I knew my husband was The One... covered in sequins from top to bottom and unlike any wedding gown I've ever seen before. This post is long overdue, but I couldn't find the words to share with other Yelp reviewers about Tangs team. This team is more than just a company where they make your dreams come true. They are a team of wonderful and passionate individuals who genuinely love and enjoy what they do. Amongst everything being taken away from the Bridal experience like many other COVID Brides, I had everything cancelled from my bridal shower to bachelorette party and even my big day. My heart was shattered to say the least. With that being said getting into my wedding dress was a bag full of mixed emotions. I was sad because I had no idea if I was actually going to be able to wear my dream dress and so happy because of Tang. I had a seamstress tell me what I wanted to do with my dress was not possible because of the layers and how "busy" the dress was. I purchased my dress at Kleinfeld in NYC and the original plan was to have it altered at Kleinfeld as well. Due to Covid, and the time that it took to receive my dress, I was forced to find a place locally for alterations. I was nervous about finding the perfect place but luckily my sister referred me to Tangs. I'm so happy that she did because my experience with Tang was phenomenal. The entire staff is super friendly, extremely helpful, and handled my dress gently and with lots of care. Tang herself is super funny, a perfectionist and I love how she pays close attention to details. She perfected the fitting of my dress. I also had her cut some of my robes to a shorter length and she perfected that as well. Their prices are also very reasonable. I paid half the price at Tang's for what would've costed me almost $900 at Kleinfeld. Anytime I need any clothes tailored, I will definitely be returning to Tang's. read more

I had an amazing experience getting my wedding dress alterations done at Tang's! I went in for hemming, adding a bustle, and removing layers of crinoline, but one of the main things I wanted done was adding detachable sleeves to wear during my ceremony and pictures, then take off during my reception. I came in to my first fitting with a few inspiration pictures in the ballpark of what I was looking for and Tang immediately understood how I wanted them to look. They turned out absolutely perfect, to include adding buttons on the sleeve cuffs that matched the back of my dress. I also ended up having to do my final fitting on my own, so she took an instructional video of doing the bustle that was perfect for sharing with my mom and MOH. Timing of the alterations was great too - my first appt. was 11/1/22 and final pick up was 12/8/22 for my New Year's Eve wedding. Dress was from Ava Laurenne in Fredericksburg. CHOOSE TANG'S! Tang took my wedding dress and made it fit me perfectly exactly how I envisioned. My wedding was postponed about a year and a half, meaning I had several appointments I ended up rescheduling to make sure I only had to get it fitted once. I also live in Chicago, which made pandemic travel and fittings a little tough. Her team worked with me, assured me they would make it happen even if I didn't have the ideal amount of time between fittings and it just took so much stress off of the already stressful time. My dress was also too big, but Tang was able to make it look like it was meant just for me. I was worried about the front, so originally she recommended adding an illusion neck line. I REALLY did not want to add this, and we were able to work together to add cups and find other ways to solve the no slip issue without adding an illusion to the dress. It was PERFECT. Tang also was able to add a few minor details to my rehearsal dinner dress and to my mother's wedding day dress to make them perfect as well. It's certainly expensive to get your dress altered, but if you go to Tang you know it's going to be worth every penny and they will make sure it's exactly what you wanted. This wasn't the closest bridal shop, but I went on the recommendation of a family friend. Sandi was an absolute joy, and everyone was very accommodating in adhering to COVID safety protocols while allowing for a wonderful dress-finding experience. I've never had alterations done on my clothing. I am cursed with not having a butt, like no joke, I am all back, no butt, no hips. I bought a pair of jeans online. I put them on and they were about three inches too long in the legs and the thighs had a good two inches on either side to be taken in. In addition to my jeans, I purchased a dress for my rehearsal dinner that fit well in the chest area but the shoulders and waist were way too big. I placed an online request for information on a Friday afternoon, about 20 minutes later I received a call from Tang's telling me that I didn't need an appointment and to stop by anytime to be measured and drop of my garments. I stopped by around 11am on a Saturday morning, there were a few people there being measured but I did not have to wait. Someone was immediately available to start working with me. My measurements were taken, the clothing was tried on and pinned, I paid and was told it would take about a week for both items. I week later I received a call that things were ready and I could pick up my clothing at any time. Everything was perfect. My items were pressed, hung and wrapped. Both the jeans and the dress now fit like a glove. I can't believe in the past that I've never thought to have my jeans altered to fit better. It's life changing. Because of her injury, my daughter had to delay final alterations until less than 2 weeks before her wedding. Although there was a lot of work to be done (~18 hours of alterations!), Xiao-Yin not only skillfully completed the work on a short time frame, but she went out of her way to deliver the finished dress personally to my daughter.
