We were in search for a kid friendly salon and my husband's coworker actually recommended Tangle Free. He told my husband it's great for first haircuts, which was the case for my twins, and perfect for kiddos who need a low sensory/stimulation environment. Booking was a little challenging but we were able to get in before their big 1st birthday! I recommend text messaging if you don't get an answer or call back from the salon. Our hair dresser was Lacey who was super friendly, patient, and accommodated very well to the needs with each of my boys. She took things slow introducing the clippers to them letting the vibrations touch their arm, legs, and feet. If they started to turn their heads too much or seemed very upset we'd take a little break and she would cut other areas with scissors. I did have my 3.5 year old with me too. She absolutely loved the salon! So many toys to keep her busy near us and another play area towards the back of the salon. I appreciate having the whole place to ourselves as it does serve to the low stimulation environment necessary for some babies and first haircuts! I visited Tangle Free in Carmichael three times. My first two appointments were great, and I appreciated their experience with cutting curly hair. Unfortunately, my third visit changed my experience. I let them know I was running late and ended up arriving only about three minutes behind. When I got there, I was told I'd need to reschedule because there wouldn't be enough time to complete my appointment. This was confusing since earlier that day they had mentioned they were ahead of schedule. I completely understand the importance of staying on schedule, but the interaction felt dismissive given how little I was actually late and that I had communicated ahead of time. It left me feeling like my business wasn't valued, so I decided to find another salon. I was impressed with their ability to cut curly hair and the atmosphere they provide to be inclusive, but the customer service during my last visit is why I won't be returning. read more

I've been taking my 4 year old for about two years now. I never have any expectations for him because he does not like being touched and hair cuts are horrible for him. I wish I could say that he doesn't get upset and there is a magical solution to not liking haircuts. What Lacey can offer is a safe environment, patience, adjustments (literally on her hands and knees cutting hair) and compassion. As a mom I feel so safe bringing him here because he can be himself, I can comfort him and he leaves with a cute fresh new look every time. It's worth the drive, it's worth the reasonable prices and it's worth the experience we get. Lacey and her mom are great! First, the area the studio is located is beautiful plus inside they set up the place very cute for children. Second, you really are getting your cut by professionals no matter your age you will be happy with the results. Lastly, Lacey and her mom provide the best experience no matter how you or your child feels during the cut. My daughter was only 6 months old when I brought her in for a cut. She got an adorable pixie cut by Lacey. We had to come back and buzz her whole head which was done by Lacey's mom which she did beautifully! We were the only ones in the salon and she was able to give him a crew cut. Our son was diagnosed with autism when he was almost 4.. but haircuts were always a big problem. He couldn't communicate very well with his words, so we didn't realize the noise of the clippers was the most terrifying for him.. along with the falling hair and itchiness. It used to take two of us to take him for a haircut & it was always a stressful experience. Through the crying & screaming, we would just hold him down while the stylist just did her best. Then we met Lacey. Lacey has kiddos with special needs.. so she completely understands how to relate to Marcus. She allows Marcus to touch the clippers first & to listen to how they sound. She then explains that it won't hurt and it's only a tickle. My 4 year old son is diagnosed with ASD and trips to get his haircut are usually fraught with tension, tears and anxiety. I found Tangle Free when I was trying to find a place that specializes in children with sensory issues and are experienced with clients that have autism. Lacey was very welcoming, patient and gave us multiple options with how she could cut his hair. After trying to seat him in the fire truck chair by himself, we settled on having him sit in mom's lap. There were still tears but my son had a chance to take a break, run and play a bit before we finished the haircut. I also like that they only take one client at a time and my son had a chance to explore and play and get acclimated first before we got started. While he was still upset about getting his haircut, it was the best experience we've had so far by a mile. Today at Tangle Free we had a full hour appointment with no one else in the salon. My son was apprehensive at first but our wonderful hairdresser Lacey today started on a gradient of just asking if she could touch his hair. Then comb it. Then cut it with scissors. My son is 3 years old and cannot handle haircuts, the buzzing, the holding still almost all aspects. So our ABA suggested tangle free we made an appt for Sunday and for the first time in years I left feeling relieved my son having the cutest little haircut after a year and not feeling like I was going to have a complete break down during or after. My daughter does not have sensory issues but this place was recommended by my neighborhood Facebook group. She worked with me from the beginning from describing what she will need to do to how long it would take and how much it would cost. We exchanged several messages making sure we knew what we were getting into. She sent pictures of people with the color hair my daughter wanted along with options for lower maintenance looks. She warned us that the color change (brown to purple) might be shocking and my daughter might not like it. My daughter did go for the whole hair color and loves it. We will go back for monthly touch-ups until my daughter wants to grow it out. During the appointment, she would let us know what she was doing and why and what step was next. Amazing! My son has severe ASD. Haircuts have always been difficult. While our "at home salon" has worked for sometime, it was so nice for him to be able to get a professional haircut.
