I called to ask about a specific item and was told that they had one new one in stock, so I drove for 2 hours to purchase it. There were some issues with it, like being a product from another manufacturer, but had the Tandy logo on it. I decided to purchase it because I was months behind schedule on a project. As I began to set it up, I noticed that it had been used, had a part installed incorrectly and had damage. It did no good to ask for a refund and file a complaint with the bbb, they simply swapped it out for another one and it has similar issues. Customer service was no help and being a disabled Veteran didn't matter, they got paid, how sad. read more

What a good find!! Came next door to 999 Pho for lunch, see other Yelp, and decided to walk off our lunch before doing our other chores. Quality/Quantity - Huge selection. Brings back memories of my custom/tailored leather jacket back in the day. Too bad they do not do repairs here, but had plenty of referrals on their community board. My daughter now wears my jacket, but she wants me to redo the inside liner. I also have been buying some nice leather belts at fairs, etc. Good to see a selection here. Most importantly, I only use brass buckles, and there is a very decent selection here. When I get more free time, I might pick up this hobby...? Leather crafts...? Leather kits...? Etc. Atmosphere - Huge location with a good selection. Restrooms are outside in the mall. Open 6 days a week from 9am to 5pm, closed Sundays. Yelp hours differ slightly. See picture or website. Service - They have leather classes here also, see picture or website. The classes seem very inexpensive! The team was okay, not super friendly or rude. But it might have been obvious that we were browsing. Like a kid in a candy store that is not allowed to have any... Price - Seemed reasonable. Update: Thank you Tandy Leather Reno and Kassandra!! My daughter finished her horse bridle with Kassandra's guidance and help. We reserved some one in one time with Kassandra for this project. This store has made crafting with leather so much fun! They have excellent classes to teach how to use the tools to create wonderful fun and useful things with leather. Service is excellent. Kassandra is a wonderful instructor. She is knowledgeable, creative, and patient. We did a one on one lesson with her today. My daughter, 9 yo, wanted to make an English horse bridle, and Kassandra guided her to design and create her own customs bridle that will fit her pony. While I was waiting, Kassandra guided me to make a bat/dragon key fob! Thanks so much!! Kassandra provides great value! Incredibly rude staff. Came in 10 mins before closing which we were aware of we were going to be in and out. Purple hair immediately said we close in 5 mins completely irritated. We found the piece of leather we were looking for and asked if it came in a darker color, again she was incredibly rude. So we just walked out, we won't be back here for any future leather needs. read more

Is leatherworking a hobby? The answer is apparently yes, and it's also one word according to spell check. I honestly had no idea though until I accidentally stumbled into this store after having lunch nextdoor. Tandy Leather is an interesting shop. You can find everything from materials and tools for your project all the way up to completed rugs, blankets and more. If your design aesthetic aligns with rustic farmhouse sensibilities, or you're a hipster looking to add a little animal hide to your home, this is actually the best place to come for those typically very expensive and harder to find accent items. We've actually purchased a few things here including sheepskin rugs and a full-size cowhide as well. Anyone can shop at Tandy, but what you pay depends on your level of membership. I suppose if you were really into leatherwork having a membership makes sense, but not for us. The prices for non-members are still reasonable AND they often run online sales that you can take advantage of in-store. The only reason for the missing star in this rating is that often customer service is a bit slow. The staff means really well, and they're very friendly, but you may need to bring your patience and a little extra time if there are a few customers in the store. It would seem the computer system is also part of the problem too. All in all, this store was a stellar find for us. Tandy Leather is a great place for all your leather needs. They have belts, holsters, leather material, leather adhesive, and much more. The staff is friendly and very helpful. When I came in here I needed some leather for a project I was doing and they had plenty to choose from. Needless to say my leather needs were met. Just a note there is two reviews for this place I'm just posting here too haha. They cashier suggested to me about classes they have their. I told her I would think about it. She wasn't pushy at all and was very helpful. She was also saying that I could save a bit of money if I signed up for their member ship. I got $5-$10 off the original price. I was pleasantly surprised. Leather is pricey and every buck counts. The leather quality is exceptional and prices are fair for good quality leather. If you know anything about good leather it is expensive but can last a very long time. I always love buying things that are good quality because it last longer. The parking is good. They have plenty of parking here and you can walk around this little shopping complex. It is very nice. I am glad to see this place is still here because good quality leather is hard to find. This place is amazing! Who knew (I certainly didn't) that there's a ton...a TON of materials and tools going in at this amazing location. Here's how it went down for me. I'm a wood worker of sorts. I'm just now getting into the finer craft of hand work, i.e. chisels and hand planers etc. I knew I needed a leather product to put on the extra super-sharp edge for my tools. I rolled in and instead if acting like I know everything, I simply asked for assistance. The woman working there (owner I presume--based on the solid customer support and product knowledge) didn't hesitate one second to discuss tool sharpening (even though her reference point was leather--all information she provided easily carried over). This was a great shop, and an open mind can find plenty of specialized cross-over tools for many projects. I'm really stoked I found this place! I'd like to start off by saying I found out about this place a few months ago. It was a fabulous find, as I'd been interested in starting to learn how to work leather for awhile now, but didn't even know where to start. Now, I'm still a major amateur when it comes to this business, but I've found that going here and speaking to the staff and looking at all the tools is very inspirational. I wasn't sure on my first visit if I was going to be sticking with it, so when the person who checked me out (Michael) mentioned membership I passed. He did let me know about the classes that they hold on Saturdays, and I decided to attend one, as it was the first time I'd really been exposed to the field. It was the best decision I'd made. After taking the class (typically they're about an hour) I splurged and bought tools and materials to start making the leather working happen. I've been here at least once if not twice a month since. They are always available to help you with any project you might have as well. Just show up, tell them what you're trying to do, and they will help you. They have all sorts of books (which for me is great, especially since I can't seem to find many of them elsewhere) on how to do certain techniques, as well as example patterns. They have dyes, paints, tools, a lot (and I do mean a lot) of leather to choose from, pre-cut belts, smaller pre-made packages so you can make your own wallet or bracelet (good for gifts) lacing materials... essentially they have it all. The Tandy Leather Catalogs are by the check-out desk, and though I have yet to need something and not find it there, I am certain they'd be happy to order anything in for you if they don't have it in stock. Fact is: I love it here. I find something new to play with everytime I come here. And in case you're wondering, I'm a member here now. I've spent a lot of money, but the membership helps cut down the cost immensely. So even if you only intend to be a one-time shopper (Ha ha, jokes on you. You'll be back.) apply for it. It helps. And attend their classes! They are simple, but there in-lies the greatness of it. They give you the most basic of tools to work with for an hour, and you not only work there doing the task, you also end up thinking of all the things you could do. These people are great. This is a great place to stop if you need anything relating to leather or leather working. Also great for parts to repair stuff like belts and purse straps. The staff is very knowledgeable, always willing to help and advise. Looks like its geared toward the hobbyist/semi pro, the prices seem a little high but the service makes up for it. They also have 'kits' if you want to try leather work. Only downside is that you have to buy big pieces of leather, if you want a small piece (like for a patch or strap) you're usually out of luck. read more
