The food was delicious the flavoring was on point, but my friend wanted it to be spicer and it wasn't spicy for him. "Indian food at a gas station doesn't sound very appealing to me." So Big Bro says. Not that he's not a fan of the cuisine. It's quite the opposite, actually, and he's a bit particular about it. BACKSTORY: Arco next door is my go-to for fuel stops in my SoCal-NorCal-SoCal treks. I've always wanted to stop by for grub here (because it smelled amazing from the outside!) but having the pup in tow simply made it impossible. And then an opportunity! No fur baby, just Big Bro - who took a bit of convincing to go. And so we did! It's a no mess - no frills kinda place. We were handed menus immediately and I sorta let Big Bro take the lead on this. But 2 items we were not going to skip were a goat and lamb dishes. SAMOSAS: Cooked to order hot. Might give it a minute before taking a bite. We loved it. Good crisp on the outside and an explosion of flavors coming from the inside. It didn't even need the dipping sauce, although it gave it a different (also good!) flavor profile. Recommending. LAMB BIRYANI: Mild level spice. Warning: it was still pretty spicy, so if heat isn't your thing, you might wanna skip it altogether. But it was certainly delicious. The aroma alone was enticing, we couldn't wait to dig in. The game level was present, but subtle. There was a perfect amount of lamb commensurate to the rice which was cooked fluffy. We liked this as well. GARLIC NAAN: Made to order! It has crisp, it had fluff, it had flavor! Garlic level was not overwhelming, it was just right. And if went well with the goat curry! GOAT CURRY: There was a lot of love in this dish. It's common knowledge it takes awhile to cook goat down to tenderness, and they did it right here. Game aroma was much less than the lamb, but it is present. The broth was rich with flavors, I think it may have hit my every taste bud: sweet, salty, savory, mild heat, just umami all around. Great with either naan or plain white rice. It was amazing. FOOD: 5. Loved EVERYTHING. SERVICE: 5. Friendly staff. Service was fast. VALUE: 5. Worth it! We had enough to yield a second meal for two! PARKING: Private lot. Street also available. Not an issue. OVERALL: 5. Big Bro May never look at a gas station eatery the same way ever again! And I now truly understand the high ratings. We usually come to the other tandoori flame in Patterson but they take an hour and a half break in the day and we didn't want to feel rushed or not be respectful of their time off, so we drove a little further to this spot. They're open until 10pm and don't have a break in the day. The place is nice, even though it's attached to a gas station and not what you'd typically expect for a great restaurant, it's totally worth stopping in. The restaurant is simply set up and very clean. You order at the counter, a very nice gentleman took our order, and grab a table. The food gets brought out with a smile and the staff checked in on us fairly often. We got mango lassis, garlic naan, samosas, tandoori chicken, butter chicken (I know I know, so predictable), aloo gobi, and basmati rice. Everything was delicious! I was driving home from San Francisco and found this wonderfully delicious restaurant right off the exit. Good food takes time and it took a while for my order to come out but I was impressed by the creamy and flavorful chicken tikki masala and crisp, garlicky naan. The mango lassi had layers of flavor and was worth every sip. If you have an opportunity to visit, I would definitely stop in. You won't find Indian food like this many other places. read more

Yay!!! Finally had time to come in and explore... being a truck driver it is fabulous to stop at a gas station/truck stop and find some good cooked meals vs lazy fast foods. I'm excited for this culture (Sikh) to come to my home state and show us a whole new way of flavors. Today we ordered some of our favorite dishes (curry lamb/chick) & nanand today I'm trying something new... we are currently waiting for our food to be prepared as I type this so I will share the ambience is simple and inviting all ages and demographics and accommodations to anyone who has disabilities. Bathroom is superior clean and staff is kind and helpful to order if it's your first time eating this types of dishes. Our dishes came in a timely manner within 10/15 so if in a rush don't be upset fortunately we had tons of time to spare and simply enjoy everything about the experience. We ordered at the counter. We decided to dine in and the Food was served to us. Absolutely gorgeous display and sooo wonderful and flavorful! I will share all the pics and we definitely will be back again and again!! A gem in the middle of no where. I'm feeling this little town. The holiday inn express Is great and this restaurant is right down the street. If you need to stay in Modesto, Turlock or Patterson -stay here. As far as the food- amazing!! I've stayed in India and this was up to par. Fresh, perfect amount of spice. This food did not have to be this good! We stopped by on a road trip and we like many others who have left reviews did not expect it to be so good. We saw it had 5 stars and had to check it out. We walked in, and the service was good. The guy at the register handed us menus. We ordered and the service was very friendly. We ordered butter naan, rice, butter chicken, and chicken kabob. It came out to about $50. The chicken kabob came out first and the flavor was soo good. It had a lot of spices and made it sooo flavorful. The butter naan was the best I have ever had. I will have dreams about it. It was so fresh and fluffy and buttery. The beutter chicken was another hit. Best I've ever had also. Good flavor, meat was cooked well. I cannot do it justice in words. We had to tell then how delicious it was before we left because the whole time I ate I couldn't stop saying "this is sooo good." I wish I lived closer but will think about this place often and hopefully make it back. there are apparently two locations within a short drive of one another. This one is just off I-5 along the frontage road, otherwise lined with gas stations and fast burgers. i make it a point of stopping at these kinds of places, even if i'm not particularly hungry as i was not this day. in fact i was interested in seeing if the place had goat as sure enough it was on the menu here, as a curry of course. can't imagine how a tandoori would be used given the physical structure of most goats is too small to afford much time in a high temp oven. i had eaten goat in form of birria de chivo earlier in the day in los banos (tacqueria el rodeo) but this was not on target given, at least as i believe, it was actually made with beef and therefore birria de res, but the stock was leftover from previous batches of the goat recipe. just my guess, but in any event it left me wanting the true flavor of the meat, and here it happened to be. deus ex machina! i've stopped by places like this both along i-5 and hwy 99 up and down the central valley and they're almost always excellent. forget decor and charming service, get that in the city if that's what you need to feel you're getting the real deal. i find a certain arrogance is typical, and likely it's my interpretation rather than any real intended attitude by the staff. no more or less so here. but the food is great, although a bit oily which is my sense of how it should be anyway, if you're eating goat or especially lamb anything. lots of fat on those bones and if you discard the fat you're losing flavors as most are fat soluble. just don't drink the pan drippings, ok? my only complaint, and this one is tedious i know but it did make a mess in my car's front seat. the plastic containers are, or at least for my order were, overfilled such that when you manage to pry open the bulging top, it's difficult not to wind up with a bit of the oily sauce distributed around various surfaces, in my case these being the car's interior. i take the blame for the mess, being a klutz by natural tendency, and let's face it a bulging container results in a few spoonfuls more food which was appreciated here as the food was excellent. but still, i have a bit of yellow oilish stain on my car's carpet. what i ordered was chicken vindaloo, lamb curry and goat curry, basmati and plain nan. all great. you really will enjoy this place and the guys who operate it are easy to talk to once you get past a certain distance that i think is maintained for many years by recent arrivals from faraway places, as these guys are. read more

Wow, you do not expect to find a gem like this off of a main highway! The ambiance and setting was clean and orderly. The food was excellent quality and so good! And the service was courteous. Don't let the unlikely location stop you from coming here! We checked the reviews, saw the ads on the 5, and we knew we had to stop. I will say, the location didn't make it seem like this would be as great of a location. But the food was amazing and the service was attentive and respectful.
