Oh man. This spot is literally a hole in a wall. No other businesses within the complex. They're all closed. Except there stands this little tiny Mexican restaurant. There is a tall Subway sign off the 5. I wanted to get a sandwich, so I exited. Once I pulled up, I saw that it was gone for good. Right next to it was a Mexican spot. I was hungry, so I decided to give it a try. I got the torta milanesa, which is my go to when I'm ordering a torta. Oh man was it good. The perfect amount of crunchiness and tenderness. The seasoning they used was delicious. Once I started the using the salsa verde, it was a game changer. Man, you know it's a good spot if the salsa is hitting. Wanted subway but their ovens were broken and didn't want a burger so we ended up here. The staff were nice enough and there about 6 tables inside. Bathrooms were clean. The building itself is old. Super burrito Carne Asada - Something was very salty. The meat was dry and grisly. It also had fresh avacado which was nice, sour cream, beans and rice. The tortilla was grilled but was dry and cracked as if it had sat under a warmer for a long time. I wouldn't go back. The man got a Asada torta which he said was ok and ate the whole thing. The reviews are hit or miss here for a reason. Sucks to pay $32 for a burrito that got four bites out of and thrown a way making it basically a $32 torta. read more

As i drive up and down the 5 I try to find something good. Burritos with whole beans and different meats. I called 15 minutes ordered two carnitas burritos one no rice. Antojitos Mexicanos is not a place you would drive by and stop in unless you have heard about it! It looks a little sketchy off of the 1-5 in the area north of the other well known chain establishments. I was told about this restaurant a couple years ago so if the time is right for a meal driving to the Bay Area I will make a stop here. The looks won't make you stop but the food and friendliness will bring you back. This is a Family run business literally next to a Subway. Carlos and his wife (Cook & Owners) are very friendly and helpful! There isn't many choices driving down the I-5 in this desolate area but Antojitos has home style Mexican food including home-made corn tortillas. Waiting for my order I saw many bowls of Caldo de Res and Tortas going out to other customers. I ordered Filete a La Plancha with nopales salad as the side (I would come back just for the nopales salad as it was fresh and tasty) instead of green salad, and other sides that came with it was whole beans & rice. The whole beans were too salty so I had a couple bites. And ordered taquitos that are huge and tasty. They have a couple of signs on the door that I appreciate, One says: "We are happy to provide assistance ". On another trip when I stopped in I saw Carlos come out and help a man that was in a wheelchair get out of the car and get seated at a table. Just that Service deserves a Star! Service was pleasant, and staff was nice. But the food was not. They had no ac in the place, it didn't seem sanitary to be honest. I ordered a burrito and only ate half of it, it wasn't good. I got two tacos and the meat was overcooked and hard. Also, I got some canela coffee that tasted like faucet water with no canela, it was horrible. When I asked for milk for the coffee she handed me a 2% gallon of milk that had chunks, so I said forget it I'll take black, but even black there was no canela/cinnamon flavor. I was getting hangry. The Yelp rating brought me in, and boy, did Antojitos Mexicanos come thru for me. Wow. Yes, wow. It's looks kinda sketchy. In fact, this whole stop off the freeway is, well, not the best. Connected to a Subway, I walked in and found an overhead menu with missing letters from 1942. Not quite sure what I was reading nor could tell what the price would be, I ordered a Chili Verde super burrito -- $10.95, I think. I got it for the car, driving while I ate the thing. Other than piping hot and a bit saucy (not a great choice while driving), it had the "wow" factor. Housemade pinto beans were so so good, and with each bite of meat, I was in heaven. It was so filling, I only ate half. Then, about 4 hours later, ate the rest...and it was still warm. WTH? Anyway, it will be a regular stop off the 5. Hey! Absolutely amazing experience. The tacos were some of the best I've ever had. I actually went back and reordered more tacos twice. And the service could not be beat. I ordered 2 carne asada burritos and one chicken super burrito to go. I got home within 10 minutes and got ready to eat. I started eating my burrito just to realize the carne asada was burnt and dry. I called to let them know and their answer was that the new girl made them and she didn't know any better. In my opinion if you are paying 50 dollars for food it should be made fresh and properly. Oh yeah! Great food! Plenty of parking for big trucks and small vehicles too, this centrally located hidden gem of a restaurant is totally worth stopping for. Located by several hotels and fuel stations they have excellent food (had chicken burritos) fast cooks, pretty ladies and excellent food. My husband and I were driving through town with our kids and stayed for the night at the nearby Holiday Inn Express. We decided we did not want more fast food. This place was the other option. We got the carne asada plate and the special (carne asada and shrimp) which came with nopales. It was delicious, all of it. Carne Asada was made right, marinated to perfection and thin. Both plates came with home made and extremely hot, fresh, corn tortillas. We ordered a side of chips and salsa as well. Inside the place was hot but it served its purpose. Their fountain drink machine was down so we purchased some Arizona tea and a Jaritos. Total for two people was $50.59 which is a bit more than we hoped to spend, and IMO more than it should have cost for what we got, but it was good. read more

For anyone traveling during this crisis and wanting authentic Mexican food, stop here. I ordered three carne asada tacos. I don't usually go for carne asada because a lot of restaurants cook it dry and tough. I was more than pleasantly surprised with the tacos I received. The tacos were cooked as we ordered them!! They were juicy, the salsa was good, and they put caramelized onions on the side! And, just the right amount of limes. By far, one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants in Northern California. Plus, the staff is super sweet and welcoming, como son los paisanos. I would rate them more if I could! ***They are currently doing take out ONLY, per state policy, but we ate in our car. The restaurant was clean and properly sanitized. They have little signs that ask the customers and employees to maintain their distance. The food was excellent but the service was bad. I ordered a supreme burrito with asada and it was very flavorful. The asada was more of a ground beef then anything I'm use to but it exceeded my expectations. The burrito had rice, beans, cilantro, asada and avocado. I requested a side of salsa with it because they don't give them without asking. The salsa was very good and had a beautiful orangish-brown color. Good thing I asked for a side of salsa but they are very stingy with it here! I only received 1 ramekin 1/2 full. As for the service, it was extremely difficult to order and pay. I can speak some Spanish and understand even more but ordering from the gentleman there was so hard. It took them 2-3 mins just to acknowledge I was waiting at the register and then finally received help. He asked me for my name 3 times and even after spelling it out for him, he wrote down another customers name who's debit card he was holding. I had to tel him that it wasn't my debit card and remind him that he just collected it from a guy sitting on the booth. He was extremely confused by his actions and ended up making up a name for me. I had to stop him and give him my debit card before he ran the other customer's card for my food. After dealing with this fiasco, the guy behind me placed his order in Spanish and told the worker to make it quick also in Spanish probably assuming I wouldn't understand and sure enough they made his food first. I root for mom-and-pops. I'm so sorry to post this. But, this was a no. I had high hopes when I walked in and all employees and customers were Hispanic. My husband who grew up in LA said it was the worst burrito he's had. The beans had no flavor and there was only one slice of avocado. The ratio was just off - loads of rice and beans with little carne asada. While my carne quesadilla was soggy, greasy, and salty. But, the fresh masa tortilla was the highlight. The hot sauce was barely spicy and lacked flavor. The carne asada felt boiled, lacking that flat top crispiness. I desperately needed some cilantro, onion, pico de gallo...Where are the pickled condiments, even the canned ones? For a hole in the wall, it was relatively clean. Being close to the fwy is a key selling point. Maybe this is the only option? Or maybe I'm expecting too much from a divey Mexican diner. read more

Unassuming place that shares a building with Subway but you won't be disappointed. I asked for a side of beans, side of rice, lettuce, and pico de gallo. The girl behind the counter offered at cactus (Nopales) as well. I was absolutely excited! I got the food and it was everything I could've hoped for. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly salted, perfect balance of flavors. They even gave me an exorbitant amount of pico in its own separate container. An $8 satiating lunch! Only thing missing was avocado. The sign still says Subway, but its a Mexican restaurant. Been here in the past, and the food was very good, especially since for being that odd, right off the desolate highway 5 route. This time around...not so good. Chicken mole was dry and tough (the chicken), and the pork chile Verde was just tasteless with too many bones and knuckles. read more

I had caldo de pollo and it was great, complete with cilantro, onions, limes on the side. I ended putting everything in the soup. The place is family owned and the food feels like comfort food. Perfect for a long drive on the highway. This is my second time here and the first time I had the carne Asada which was also excellent. The tortillas are all handmade. We stopped by on the road and had a fantastic meal! It is definitely unassuming, but obviously a locals only place that gets a few traveller's here and there too. All the food is home made which is just so much better than the chains surrounding it. We had the chili relleno which was to die for and the pambazo sandwich. The rice and beans were very flavorful so my daughter got a second burrito after finishing her first! The owner was very nice too. Definitely give it a shot! read more
