The only downside is that you can get blocked in and have to completely reverse out like I did. Come here every so often and each time I am never disappointed. The place is small and the parking lot is also small with a bunch of potholes. However the food is worth it. So full of flavor. They have lots of food options. They are usually pretty quick with making the orders or packing to go. Simply the best carnitas and pastor I've had full stop. Driving to Yosemite from the Bay Area, I wanted to include a few stops along the way. Tracy was a logical location to search out some local traditional Mexican food. I love Yelp! The Guzman family at Los Potros have created a restaurant that is the perfect palate for their passion and creativity. Their Carnitas and Pastor are the best I've had not only in Tracy but in Northern California and that includes the Mission in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. My street tacos with traditional Carnitas and Pastor were so simple, but full of flavor and texture. I was so impressed with the street tacos that returned from my trip to Yosemite 4 days later to try their Enchiladas de Mole de Pollo. The lovely lady that served me was incredibly proud when she placed the plate in front of me that included 2 mole enchiladas with chicken, rice and beans - all for $14.00! The mole - an old family recipe was complex, chocolaty with deep flavors of roasted peppers and almonds. I savored every bite. I believe the restaurant is family owned and based on the persons that work there and their interaction with the customers as they came in it seems so my lunch friend had the whole red snapper with the garlic sauce that she really enjoyed. I love this place, the food is excellent! My favorite breakfast place. Now the negatives...even though they only have a few employees it seems there was a large price jump when the minimum wage law changed. That being said my normal breakfast choice is now almost $30!!! Also if you use a debit card add another charge. So now just going by myself for breakfast and not stopping at the bank first and trying to leave a decent tip almost $50. So being on a fixed income whereas I would go a couple times a month now its like once every couple of months, I just can't afford it anymore. Los Potros is one of the best local Mom/Pop Mexican restaurants. I love that they have shredded beef as it seems harder to find in Nor Cal. It was a staple in San Diego restaurants. Where do we begin?!! This place has it all and when we mean all we mean all!! The menu is quite expansive and every item we ordered and watched come out was not only fresh but the smells of the food are not to be mistaken by the well experienced nose. We have eaten a lot of Mexican food in our lives and have been well traveled to many parts of Mexico and South America. We have never experienced food like this...!!! Sauces were home made and fresh from the red sauce on the chili Relleno that took my partner in crime back to his child hood reminding him of his Grandpa's homemade sauce. The tamales had the lightest and fluffiest maza I've ever experienced with plenty of meat and filling that was moist and just melted in your mouth. The tostada was hands down the best I've ever had the shredded beef seasoned to perfection and melted in my mouth with all the flavors from the cotija crumbles to the crunch of the tortilla. Street taco carne asada were delicious in itself definitely a must! Followed by the cheese enchilada the verde sauce with the perfect mix of tomatillos and chili's perfect balance of sweet meets heat balanced mild spice. Lastly the home made beans and rice so good we took them home because let's be honest our eyes were bigger than our tummy's lol! . Lastly some albodingas soup was ordered for take home for dinner not to mention the home made tortillas. IT did not disappoint. This little place, and I mean little; packs a punch of authentic homemade cuisine that's is "muy delicioso." I asked for 2 crispy tacos with asada and was given chicken. We also ordered a chimichanga with carnitas but we were given chicken. I returned my plate and got it corrected but there was no apology or any consideration. The taco was delicious but my rice was reheated and as a result tasted hard. I brought my kiddos after church on Sunday and the place is tucked away in the corner street parking space is limited luckily we found a spot to park. As we walked in we were greeted by all the ladies who were working. We got seated and I just wanted to eat everything in the menu lol. Everything we've ordered here is delicious although my favorite is the Shrimp wrapped in bacon plate that comes with rice beans and a small salad. No complaints there I like spicy. However, I was really shocked about the portion sizes. To start the crispy tacos were buried underneath lettuce and I started to question myself thinking that I order flauntas instead, these were not sure smaller than your average taco shells and there was maybe one fork full of meat in each. Onto the chili Verde while it was seasoned decent again there wasn't very much. All in all I would go back for the street tacos and burritos. This is our go-to place for Mexican food. We haven't had a bad dish from them yet. Some of our favorites are the street tacos, breakfast or regular burritos (they're huge), and their chile relleno. We ordered over the phone - 2 chorizo breakfast burritos, one w/o potatoes. My hubs asked for the total and were told it was $17 plus some change. We figured $8/burrito + tax. My husband went to pick it up for us and I asked him to get some chips too while he was there. When he came home, he told me they charge for chips now. I don't remember them charging for chips before. Is it new? So our total was $19 and change. For $2 extra, their chips didn't taste fresh and lacked salt. The salsa that came w/it was good though. They didn't mark the burrito that had potatoes or no potatoes. Also, before rolling up the burrito in foil, they didn't pre-cut them in half for us.
