We were driving back down to San Diego from the Bay Area and found ourselves starving at around 9pm and wanted to find real food - not just junk fast food. We were surprised to see an Indian restaurant attached to an Arco. We decided to try it and it was absolutely delicious. We had lamb biriyani with cucumber yogurt sauce, and chicken tikka marsala with naan. The food tasted authentic and was hearty and comforting. The worker gave us free Indian coffee and was most attentive. The restaurant is clean and tidy and had many tables to be seated at. I was very impressed with the overall meal especially since we thought all we would find out in the middle of nowhere was McDonald's. read more

I am not en expert in Indian food, but I do eat it frequently and at many different places around the Valley and California, and I typically order the same dishes to get a good comparison. I typically order Chicken Tikka Masala because I like the flavor and the chicken is better because it's chicken Tikka as opposed to Butter chicken which is just chicken chunks. This Chicken Tikka Masala did not have chicken tikka. I am not bothered that the color wasn't red like we usually see, but I am bothered that it wasn't Tikka chicken and the flavor was almost exactly the same as the veggie korma I ordered. I have never had korma sauce like this. It was boring and tasted almost exactly like the Chicken Tikka Masala. Also, the veggies seemed like a frozen blend. The Naan was fine, but on the thin side. I thought that because the food took so long to make (30 minutes) that it would be good - but it was the most disappointing Indian food I have ever had. What a surprising find this delicious restaurant was, thanks to signs we saw along the highway on a road trip. We didn't find it at first, not expecting it to be connected to an AM/PM at the gas station! I'm guessing the owner has the whole bldg and both businesses. The food is definitely authentic Indian. Husband got a curry he loved, and I got a very good chicken dish with saffron rice and lots of veggies. We also got the garlic naan - be SURE to order some, it's homemade (everything is) and so yummy. We dipped it in the curry sauce which tasted wonderful. The service was excellent. You order at the counter and it's then brought to the table. Our server was patient and attentive. Although by the looks of it it's a very casual restaurant, in our experience the service was that of a sit down. He even gave full table service to a very elderly couple who didn't know to order at the register. Clean place and good prices, especially for this quality of Indian food. The food was so delicious we didn't get a chance to take photos . Staff was very helpful and professional in how they handled our order and request for extra utensils and bowls. The food....splendid! Definitely would recommend or go again. My only reluctant issue for this fantastic place is 2 fold: 1). I asked specifically for plasticware, plates and napkins and was incorrectly reassured. 2). The plastic to go bag was torn by the boxed chicken inside so when I arrived, it had made a mess all inside my car. Badly packaged. Sauce all over my passenger seat. What a wonderful surprise of an experience. We happened upon this restaurant on a road trip and it was beyond delicious. The best garlic naan we've ever had, along with scrumptious chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. My whole family enjoyed every last bite. Hidden Gem! We ordered Butter Naan, Chicken Tikka & Plain Rice. The workers were super friendly and gave their recommendations. Naan was soo good! Toasty + Soft. Chicken had good flavor and not too spicy. Rice was soft & airy A lot of people order to go & don't dine in since this location is in a stop & go place for travelers. Absolutely delicious food. We ordered the garlic prawns, the chicken vindaloo, and chicken biriyani. The garlic prawns were so flavorful and spicy in the best way. The prawns were cooked to perfection, not under or over. Lots of green chilis in the prawns, so be prepared for a kick! The chicken biriyani was also very flavorful with a lot of fragrant spices and it had almost a floral, sweet flavor. So delicious The chicken vindaloo was amazingly flavorful with plenty of sauce which paired so well with their butter naan. The ambiance was okay. Service was good too. I am not sure who or how this place has gotten 4.5 stars. We stopped in due to passing through and I was excited because of the ratings. The prices are high compared to other Indian restaurants. I spent $103 for a few items. The man at the cash register was nice but there is no table service. We ran out of water and kept trying to get his attention. This is at best a fast food Indian restaurant the flavors are off the butter chicken tasted like chicken in a tomato bath rather than the creamy cashew sauce. I would skip this place. read more

Amazing Indian food! On the drive between Sacramento and Pismo (2-3x year), we make it a point to eat at Tandoori Flame at least once each trip. The Butter Chicken is so flavorful especially when paired with the garlic naan. The lamb kebab and the samosa are also delicious. The service is great too with a very nice staff and clean restaurant. Fabulous food and the staff is very nice. We loved the vegetable samosas (2 come in an order) and we ordered extra Chicken Tikki Masala so we could enjoy leftovers tomorrow. They brought our food to our table and packed the items for tomorrow "to go". The kneer is a great dessert if you are a fan of rice pudding. The food is delicious and staff provide prompt, friendly service. We order mostly take out. My only critique is how they portion the tandoori chicken. They state a half chicken on the menu but serve less than a half chicken. The meat portions are a little skimpy for the money. I don't consider a drumlet of a chicken wing, a normal piece of chicken. Garlic Naan: Garnished with cilantro & garlic Shahi Paneer: Cheese cubes in a creamy rich gravy with onions, tomatoes and cashew nut. Egg Bhurji: Scrambled eggs w/ green chilli, tomatoes, onions, spices and herbs. Vegetable Biryani: Spiced rice w/ mixed vegetables. Kheer: Rice in milk, sugar flavored w/ cardamom and almonds. We drive about 30 miles to come here, the food is (mostly) delicious and served like a high-end restaurant instead of what you'd expect to see attached to a gas station off a major highway. The staff is friendly, helpful, and service is excellent. First time we came we were super impressed with the samosas which were nice and hot all the way through and perfectly crispy on the outside. The butter chicken was good as well, but there's another restaurant we found to like better for that. The other day we came for dinner and saw they had more options, so we were super excited to try the butter chicken pizza! Sadly it wasn't as good as we were hoping. But that's ok, we've got a favorite spot for that! I like that they now seem to have a case for grab and go stuff, like the mango lassi (pictured) and sweets (sorry, didn't take a pic of that.) we came late in the evening so the case was fairly empty, but I think they may have more items during the day. read more
