My wife and I purchased a Co-Motion Colorado tandem from this shop in the fall of 2013. Our experience has been consistently and overwhelmingly positive. The owners at that time, Lynn and Patrick, took over three hours orienting us to our tandem and discussing options with us. They were very helpful, informative and patient and we walked out of the shop confident in our decision to buy a new Colorado (they sold so many of these shop-specific limited editions, Co-Motion decided to make it an official Co-Motion model and it's now called the "Carrera" - gotta say, I like the name Colorado better!) A few weeks later, when they were on their way to El Tour de Tucson, they actually personally delivered our bike to us in Albuquerque! Whenever I had a problem, both Lynn and Patrick were very helpful. I spent a lot of time on the phone, with questions, as I live in Albuquerque. I managed to foolishly break a crank arm retaining cap the first time I reassembled the bike and Patrick walked me through how to fix things over the phone. Lesson learned: Buy a torque wrench. Anyway, Lynn promptly sent the replacement part. This was after he and Lynn both took the time, one early spring Saturday, to walk us through the disassembly, wrapping and packing of our tandem in the hard S&S couplers travel cases, in their store. Prospective tandem owners need to be aware that buying a tandem is a commitment to learning, working together, and must come along with a willingness to be your own mechanic of sorts. And I'm so thankful for all of the help both Lynn and Patrick provided me. I know, some times, they must have felt like rolling their eyes and whispering to each other, "my gosh, Chuck is on the phone, what do you suppose he has broken now?" Ha! Recently, Lynn and Patrick sold the shop and moved on to another venture. I had a chance to visit the new owners last Saturday. My wife and I were in town visiting family and we brought the tandem along for a once-over prior to taking it on an overseas tour this summer. I found the new owners, Kevin and Stephanie McCutcheon, to be simply fantastic; really great people! They are friendly, helpful, accommodating and very patient. That's important to me as I'm still relatively new to tandems and have a bunch of questions! Kevin gave our tandem a thorough check, adjusting this and tweaking that, telling me what he was doing along the way, and he even showed me a cool app that Gates Carbon drive has made available for determining the proper tension of the Gates drive belt using my smart phone. At first I was a little worried about the shop changing hands but, after spending about an hour and a half with Kevin and Stephanie, I couldn't be more pleased. Kevin is a top-flite bike mechanic and really knows his stuff! Stephanie epitomizes customer service and attention to detail. And Duke, their official greeter, is a great pooch. He looks tough but he's actually a pussycat. It's worth it to visit the store just to meet Duke! All kidding aside, this is THE place to go if you are considering a tandem purchase. They have a fantastic selection ranging from KHS to Co-Motion to the exotic Calfee bikes. Don't buy a cheap tandem, in a has-everything bike store, not properly fit for you, only to sell it later. We bought a Co-motion from Belmont Wheelworks in MA last fall. We have put about 1,000 miles on it this year and a few weeks ago it started making an obnoxious noise when pedaling. My husband is a pretty good single bike mechanic so we spent a Sunday overhauling the drive train minus the eccentric and bottom brackets. Despite our efforts the noise persisted. We became really desperate - the prior owners sort of had a bad reputation and my husband didn't want to take the bike to them, but we both agreed we wanted a mechanic who knows tandems. I called Co-motion directly and after a pretty unhelpful 10 minutes I got on the TCW website and discovered the shop has new owners. My husband called Kevin and even though he was pretty busy and getting ready to close the shop for touring season he fit our bike in. I didn't handle any of this and didn't interface with Kevin, but my husband had nothing but wonderful things to say (but unfortunately he doesn't write reviews). In particular he said Kevin is really knowledgeable, super friendly, and very obviously has a passion for tandem bikes. I'm glad we now have a place to take our tandem for jobs we can't handle or need expertise figuring out. read more

The NEW and IMPROVED TANDEM CYCLE WORKS in Denver, CO under "NEW" ownership since November, 2014, has got to be the best tandem bike shop in the US. The new owner, Kevin, is absolutely the most friendly, professional and capable guy you will ever meet. He is such a breath of fresh air. From the very first minute you walk in the door of the newly owned Tandem Cycle Works, Kevin makes you feel like family. Kevin just has one of those unpretentious, welcoming demeanors. You will quickly learn that Kevin's motto is: he is "not happy" until you "are happy." Speaking from personal experience he is ready, willing and able to do what ever it takes for you to be satisfied with your Tandem Cycle Works experience. Whether it's routine maintenance, a new or used bicycle purchase or a major overhaul of your beloved steed: above and beyond seems to be SOP for Kevin. If I could, I would give Tandem Cycle Works and the new owner Kevin twenty stars but I guess I'll just have to settle for five stars. Just bought a new Calfee Tetra tandem from Kevin and Stephanie. They have been amazing to work with. Very knowledgeable with lots of helpful tips on tandem riding, the latest tandem technology, and the right options for us across manufacturers. My wife and I log about 3000 to 3500 miles each year with lots of tour and event riding. We typically ride high end carbon singles. So we really wanted a ride that was both responsive and smooth over a lot of miles. Kevin and Stephanie did a great job of finding us the right bike. They were very patient with us over a number of test rides, over several weekends. We could not be happier with the Calfee tandem, and the setup and tweaking done for us by Kevin. We even sent Kevin our CU Sports Performance center bike fit information, and he made sure that both the frame and all the components matched the bike fit specs perfectly! That is real service. My daughter broke her arm a week before the first day at her new middle school this year. She had been SO looking forward to cycling to school with her friends and talked about it all the time during fifth grade. After reaching out on Facebook and NextDoor, Kevin, of Tandem Cycle Works, responded that he had a vintage Schwinn tandem (built-for-two) bicycle on display in his shop. He very generously loaned it to us for the six weeks it took my daughter's humerus to heal. He delivered it to our house and asked for nothing in return. It is so nice to see this sort of generosity in the world! From visiting his shop, I learned from Kevin that some modern tandem bicycles actually can come apart and fit into suitcases for travel. I also learned that, through his shop, people can book all sorts of fun tours with tandem bicycles. They sell, rent and repair tandem bicycles. I highly recommend this business! read more

We brought our 2 co-motion touring bicycles to TCW for extensive repair work and to see if Kevin would be able to fix some odd clicking and shifting problems that no other shop was able to address or fix. We have been bike touring for 7 years, so we've gone to a lot of bike shops in the U.S., Europe, etc. and no one was able to fix the problems. We were delighted when we picked up the bikes and took them for a test ride and they performed like NEW. We were amazed at the quality of the repairs and the price was very reasonable too. We highly recommend Tandem Cycle Works for repair work or to purchase a tandem or high quality co-motion handmade bicycle. Thanks so much Kevin. PS---it's not easy for us to get to TCW. We don't own a car so we have to take a 1.5 hour bus ride from Boulder to Lakewood---it's well worth it, the shop and repairs are that good!!!! read more

We purchased a Co-motion Carrera from Tandem Works this past spring. Kevin is wonderful and so personable. He helped us out through out the process and sent us periodic updates as we waited for our bike to be built. He has also answered all of our questions and given us recommendations on bike racks, suitcases, and pedals. He's given us travel tips with the tandem, etc. Recently we had a slight accident with our tandem and it needed some repairs that were more simple than we thought. He showed my husband how to fix it and only charged us for parts. He has also hooked us up with some consigned accessories that were cheaper than the ones he sells... in essence helping us get a better deal than if we purchased the same items from him at full price. Had trouble with the trim on Shimano front shifter. Kevin let me make an appointment so as to save a second trip across the city. On the appointed day he put the bike on the stand the minute I arrived and worked skillfully. He not only addressed the trim problem but found other items in need of attention and took care of them right then and there. Sad to say, we had some trouble on our first ride after the adjustments. He immediately took the bike for a test ride, diagnosed the problem. We left the bike one working day. He fixed all issues to perfection. Before calling us he and Stephanie took the bike for a test ride to be sure. Our bike now works like new. Great service and great work! read more

New owners, great people. We had an issue with our 10 year old wheel set, and since we don't really trust a regular bike shop to understand a tandem bike, we headed to TCW. Kevin is great. He took his time explaining the benefits of the Rolf wheels, took the old gear set and disc brake off and put them on the new wheel, even took the old tire and tube off and placed on the new wheels. We even found the cleats we needed we thought were discontinued. Really happy with the service and the knowledge. We are looking into updating our 10 year old tandem, we'll for sure bring it here. read more

We took in our Paketa tandem for an annual tuneup last week. We took the tandem out for a ride yesterday and it ran as smooth and quite as ever. The shifting was crisp and clean. Kevin did a great job. read more
