I purchased a Groupon to try a local salon. Tame has pretty good reviews on Facebook, Google, and Yelp, so I thought I'd give it a try. I've never had my hair professionally colored, nor have I been to an American based salon before. Groupon: My groupon consisted of color and cut. When I entered the store, the girl who was going to be working on my hair informed me that if I wanted a balayage that it would cost $30 extra, and for the length of my hair, another $20 (on Groupon they constantly advertise balayage, but there is no mention of the extra costs there). My friend who bought the same groupon said she was not charged extra, which is why I decided to give it a try, but low and behold. You know what, that's fine, I've already bought the groupon and was already sitting down. Experience: I asked for a trim of my long hair and a balayage. Trim: I asked for a basic trim, or about 1 inch off. I assume, easy enough. I'm not asking for something really bizarre? She literally only cuts the TOP portion of my hair and straight cut the rest. It's extremely choppy, jagged, and straight up looks like I asked my 10 year old cousin to do it for me. I didn't even realize it was this bad until I saw it today, which is why I decided to write a review. You might ask, why didn't I notice this in the salon or before? You sit facing AWAY from any mirrors at the salon, which is strange to begin with. I hated the haircut from the beginning and thought it was really bad, but I didn't know how bad it was until my mom pointed it out recently. See below for pictures. Balayage: not great, not terrible. I barely see the new color, but it's very similar to what I previously had. During the time the girl was dying my hair, she asked the owner many questions as to how to correctly balayage, what's the correct technique, how to put foil on, etc. she did not seem like she completely knew what she was doing and this should've been my sign. Sadly, my hair was curled at the end so even when looking in the mirror, it was hard to tell there was any issues. This entire experience makes me wary to try any new places again. WORST BLOWOUT BAR IN THE WORLD!!!! Booked 3 blowouts and style for an event this weekend. We arrived on time and there was just one woman there, 2 more women came in late and without introducing themselves just started curling our hair. They didn't wash nor blowout our hair at all. They completed ignored us when we told them what we wanted as far as style and did whatever they wanted. The hair looked AWFUL and we had to have it redone before the event. This place is a scam and the women who run it are unprofessional. I will not recommend this place to anyone coming to Athens for an event in the future. They should be shut down. I had never gotten my hair styled before for a big event. Usually because my hair can never hold a curl, so I iron straight. I had heard so much about the place, so I decided to try it for Formal. They were able to fit me in. From the receptionist to the stylists all the way up to the managers, everyone was so friendly and helpful. They truly know what they are doing. This place is such a bargain compared to the dry bar places I have looked up in the Atlanta are. They truly know what they are doing and how to run a successful business. My hair turned out stunning. I received many compliments on my hair, even asked if I had lightened it! I recommend this bar to anyone who is looking for a pick-me-up or is going to a special event. A convenient, inexpensive and friendly place to get your hair done. On a whim, we called to see what availability they had to fit us in on a Friday afternoon. To our surprise, they could accommodate us. My mom and I called and got same day service. Our stylist were both friendly and attentive. You receive one complimentary drink (wine, lemonade or tea) while you're there. I would definitely recommend this business and I would go back. Kudos, Tame. read more

Awful experience!! My friends and I went into Tame to get blowouts on Saturday before a wedding that afternoon. The lady doing my hair didn't use a round brush the whole time she dried my hair and just shook my hair around making it a frizzy mess. She then proceeded to try curl my hair before it was completely dry. She also had to stop halfway through to wash out another employees color in her hair. While she was gone, she let a lady that was there to set up her spray tan business continue to curl my hair. She said "you just wrap the hair around the curling iron and hold until it gets warm." Who lets someone who has never curled/done someone else's hair experiment on a client who had an event to go through afterwards?! Needless to say all 3 of us had to go home and rewash our hair before the wedding because there was no way to recover the damage. Absolutely will never recommend Tame to anyone!! I love love love these ladies! I called on extreme short notice, for the works, for my nieces big day, and I was absolutely floored, when three beautiful ladies arrived! They treated my niece with smiles and some uptown style pampering with her hair and makeup. All 3 ladies were so polite, and I just can not say enough about them. Would I recommend? I had a very disappointing experience at Tame. I booked a hair and makeup trial for my upcoming wedding, but I will not be going back on my actual wedding day. I arrived at 9:50, ten minutes before my appointment, and the store was locked and the lights were off, even though they open at 9:00. The woman with whom my appointment was booked arrived at exactly 10:00 without comment. Once she settled in and the appointment began, things didn't improve. I was not happy with my makeup. I asked for natural looking eye makeup, but what I received was much too dark, much to heavy, and very dark red. In addition to this, the telephone kept ringing, but she never showed any indication of answering it. Eventually the customer who was trying to reach the salon came there in person, and my makeup artist, the only employee in the store, wasn't able to help her because their computer system was down. The fact that the phone went unanswered, coupled with the fact that the store is regularly closed when they say they're open, makes me believe it's quite impossible to reach anyone who works there. Finally, when my disappointing appointment was over, I was told that I would have to pay in cash since the store's system was down, so I had to go find an ATM and pay a withdrawal fee. In general, I felt very disrespected and could not believe how unprofessional the whole experience was, especially for such a high price. I will not be returning. read more

I had a WONDERFUL experience with Jessica at Tame! I am extremely satisfied with the beautiful job she did on my hair. I had a cut, color and blowout and the balayage she did on my hair is amazing. I've already had two friends ask where I got it done and say they are switching salons. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone! The service is excellent, timely, and the salon is pristine. Unfortunately, in just 1 visit I experienced all the negative things posted regarding this hair salon. The visit began with the receptionist debating with me who would be my hairstylist. That very same receptionist also washes hair at the salon -- a disaster. There is not much intelligence to go on with hairwashing, right?! Boy I was wrong!!!!! The receptionist told me to go back to the seat while my hair was totally dripping water. What's more, she could not even wrap a towel tight on my head. So, the completely soaked towel landed on my shoulder and clothes. The haircut was done by a lady who walked in the store after I waited for her for 5 minutes. The lady seemed to be a temp. She would not put her handbag in the staff area -- she just put her handbag on a seat next to me. The haircut itself was ok, but the experience was devastating. read more

I live in Denver and have been stranded home since December and have blonde hair. I needed somewhere to go to get my hair touched up pronto, so a friend suggested Tame. I made an appointment with Ashley and the outcome was AMAZING. I've gotten so many compliments and my hair looks so great. It's just the blonde I've always wanted it to be. Ashely is really sweet and really listened to what I was going for and she made it happen. I'm so happy with the outcome. Can we give Niki a medal? She's so talented in everything that she does. Let's start with their appointment system. You can either book an appointment online or over the phone, I made mine over the phone. They take your number and send you a TEXT of your stylist name and the time of your appointment, super convenient. I went in right on time and Niki sat me in her chair within minutes. They offer you drinks (soda and water i think) while you wait. I wanted a balayage and it didn't take her long to put my color in. I was a bit concerned because it only took her 10-15 minutes but I didn't say anything. Waited for about 40 minutes, she toned and washed my hair and gave it a quick blunt hair cut. The hair cut didn't take long either so i was more concerned but didn't say anything (I'm used to stylists taking 45 minutes to put in color+ 30-35 mins to cut hair). Also, note that I had to take off my glasses so I was basically blind the whole time. Then she gave me a blow out and asked if I wanted loose curls. Of course I wanted some curls! I finally put on my glasses and OMG, my hair looked AMAZING. I'm glad I let her do her job and not question her abilities. :) Niki gave me the best color and hair cut ever. I was really happy with the results and still am. :) Note: I wanted a little more color on my bangs and called her the day after. She squeezed me in the next day and was super helpful!! read more

I have never used their cut or color services, but their make up and styling services are great! I have used them for every formal I've been to in Athens. I've only had one instance where my hair started to fall, but in all fairness, that was when I had pictures outside and several outfit changes. Nicole is super sweet! I highly recommend! read more

Thought I had a great experience at Tame on my wedding day until after the wedding when my girlfriends informed me that they were all charged $70 for basic blow outs when my contract clearly stated $30!! Have been trying to work out a refund with them for 2 months and they still refuse to pay us the correct difference. Now I'm having to repay my girls out of pocket. I normally don't write bad reviews on anyone but I have to say my past few experiences with this salon have been terrible and completely unprofessional. Nikki is great at what she does. However my third time going to see her for an appt, she had to leave and put me in the hands of a woman who was completly inexperienced in doing modern hair. I asked for dark blonde lowlights and I did not receive what I asked for. The next time I tried a different stylist and Jessica was great, however she missed a whole side of my face. I had terrible roots for weeks. Shes no longer there. Today I went to my appt that was suppose to be with Nikki and was texted a message an hour before my appt saying that Nikki was not in town to do my hair. I thought that was very unprofessional. The text and the fact she wasnt available. Whether or not I confirmed my appt by email, my appt should still have been accountable for. I'm completely dissatisfied with my visits and experiences at this salon. I will not be returning. read more

Horrible, I am so upset. I went here to get my hair and make up done for my engagement pictures & I showed up early & they knew I was waiting and still ignored me and continued to curl someone else's hair even when they said it was fine because they were already late for my appointment. She then was curling my hair and burnt me and completely ignored when I jumped in pain. And worst of all my hair didn't even stay for my pictures which is very unlike my hair to not hold a curl. Not sure why it didn't stay. For the makeup... they had a worker who was stopping by to say hi, jump in to do mine. She didn't have any of her own make up and grabbed and used whatever she could. Did not do anything professional about my make up at all. The make up was all drug store stuff too. Basically everything I could already do, i looked the same as when I do my own. So completely pointless to go here and my hair looks horrible in my engagement photos. Ugh! read more

I've been going to tame for about 4 months now, but I don't think I will revisit after today. I paid $35 for a half ass toner for my silver hair, and an extremely unfriendly attitude from my stylist. When I made the appointment I told the receptionist that I was getting just a toner and confirmed that it would be only $35. My stylist today proceeded to wash and style my hair even when I told her I was only here for a toner. Then, she tried to charge me for procedures I did not want done. When I told her that I've gotten just a toner here before for $35, she proceeded to roll her eyes and walk away from me while I was paying. I'm surprised I even tipped her if I'm being honest. All in all, my hair is already bleached, so I'm just going to do my own hair from now on. I don't need bitchy stylists trying to charge me for things I never asked for. read more

I wanted to give Tame a better review, but I've been struggling with my hair ever since I got it cut there. It looked great the day of, because of the blow out, but it's not really what I wanted, and I can't give myself a blowout every day. I also didn't get my hair cut by the person I scheduled my appointment with, which was frustrating. My appointment was for 1pm, and I was still waiting at 1:15, so I'm not sure if they felt like they just needed to get me in or what, but I'd rather have waited. It's probably great as a style bar, but as a place to get my hair cut it didn't work out very well. read more

I had such a great experience at tame! Alyssa was my hairstylists and I will definitely be going back just for her to do my hair. I went here for a blowout for my sisters 25th birthday. She curled my hair with a straightener which usually doesn't hold but it is the second day and my hair is still curled. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair! She also teased it a little to where it wasn't overdone. My friends and I also had mimosas while we got our hair done and did not feel like they wanted to rush us out the door after we got our hair done. I scheduled an appointment a few weeks ago for a blowout on Saturday for an event. This was my first visit to Tame, though I decided to book a visit on the advice of a friend. A friend and I were both met with a horrible and disappointing experience. When we arrived, the the salon was running more than 15 minutes behind. We both sat and waited for our appointment, which would have been fine had the the rest of the appointment run smoothly. Finally, after watching multiple people that had appointments after me get taken back for their appointment, I was told that a man would be washing my hair and that I should follow him. He was not who I signed up with and it seemed as though Tame was running low on staff and just "stuck" me with someone to get the process moving along. Next, after having my hair washed, I was told to" just wait here" which involved just standing in the middle of the salon with wet hair while the man that had washed my hair attempted to find a chair to stick me in. He finally came back for me and sat me next to my friend, as we had been told me would be, as we had scheduled our appointments together. I continued to sit there alone, until a hairdresser appeared and rudely informed me that I was in her clients chair and that I would need to find somewhere else to go. Finally after being seated in front of the information desk, the man came back and dried my hair. Finally after more sitting, unattended to, it seems as though Tame found someone to take on my appointment, because the hair dresser I had signed up was still busy with a bride, running 45min-1hr over her appointment. While I understand that a bride requires special care, it was not appropriate to leave a new customer in such a position of abandonment. Further, the hairdresser that did my hair continued to have inappropriate conversations with the receptionists, relating to the color of her wedding dress as she was a virgin etc etc. Further, as I had been seated in a chair that did not seem to be any one's station in particular, it was lacking in supplies or even a mirror in front of me. I never ever wear my hair with a middle part, though the hairdresser styled my hair in such a fashion that I had a middle part. I could not see my hair as there was no mirror and I expected her to either style my hair in its natural part or to simply ask. Upon finally seeing my hair, it was sloppy and had fallen to nearly straight within hours of leaving. I am sure that my friend that joined me will voice her own complaints, but to sum it up, she had to wash and re-curl her hair upon leaving Tame. I am incredibly disappointed in my experience at Tame and their disgraceful level of customer service. I would have voiced my complaints previously, but I was running short of time as the appointment had run so awry and my friend needed to leave to completely re-do her hair. I previously contacted Tame about my experience, but received no reply. I would not recommend Tame to anyone following this experience. First haircut in Athens and I can't tell you how pleased I was with the outcome. I honestly have never had a good haircut experience which makes me nervous when getting my haircut. Sue did an amazing job on my hair and gave me EXACTLY what I asked for. I decided to give Tame a call and they were able to get me right in. Great customer service and great stylists! read more

I'm obsessed with Tame! I first went and had my hair done when I was invited as a part of a group party, and from then on out I have been a regular! The owner, Nikki always does an amazing job on my hair. I have asked her to do everything from ombre to silver metallic and she nails it every time! I also appreciate their price list compared to some of the other top salons in town. I am able to get amazing results even with my tight budget. I always get an excellent shampoo (amazing head massage) and blowout, as well. The stylists take their time and pay attention to details. I've always appreciated how they take my hair type into consideration when styling. I have very thin hair so they listen when I say I don't want a lot of product to way me down. All around excellent service. I absolutely recommend!! read more
