My dog was rejected in a couple of hours by the first (popular) boot camp we took her to & reached out to Tame. UPDATE: Archer came back when he was 7 months to complete the 17-day off-leash training program and it was one of the best decisions we've could have made as dog owners. Archer had a lot of different issues the second time around than when he was 3 months old. He was definitely more confident but also a lot stronger where he would pull us on walks, run out the door, and bark at anything that looked weird or scary, including bath towels, house plants and of course every person and dog that walked by him. It was so bad that near the time he went in for his training we couldn't take him to dog friendly places anymore because he would just bark and growl at other dogs and little kids. Well, I'm glad to report that he no longer does this. It's now been about 3 months since he's come back from his training and I'm still impressed how well-behaved he is. We can now go to outdoor restaurants and bars and actually have a calm and quiet dog. I love people approaching him and commenting how sweet and calm he is. And one of the best parts about the off-leash program is that you can take your dog home and see the immediate changes for yourself. But then if you ever need a "tune-up" or if other issues arise, Matt will help you in the follow-up session. I absolutely recommend Matt and his team at Tame. He's not only incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to dogs, but also friendly and just a cool and approachable guy who's always willing to help out. I cannot thank Matt and his team enough for the transformation of my two pups. My 1.5yo 84lb rottie/shepherd and 4.5 yo 40lb shepherd mix girls went to Matt for a whole month. I had to do something because the younger (and much bigger) one was being aggressive towards the older one. Matt and his team did their magic. Not only there is no aggression, but they are absolutely obedient and respectful of me and each other. Now, just like with any dog training program - you HAVE to follow through. Dogs are going to test the boundaries all the time, so whatever Matt and the team taught them has to be practiced every day. Another thing - Matt took 45 minutes to speak with me before I decided to do it. He really cares on all levels about a wellbeing of you and your dog. I am not normally one to leave reviews, but I am so frustrated and disappointed with my experience here. I boarded my puppy for the 2 week puppy board and train and I was really excited to bring her here because of all the great reviews. Basically, my dog pretty much learned nothing here. I did try training with her consistently at home after I took her back from the board and train, but I could barely even get her to do a simple "sit". I did contact Matt with this issue to where he pretty much just said "Well dogs listen to each person differently. She just needs to get used to you training her" to which I'm wondering well I might as well just trained her myself! It also seems the dogs that they board spend a lot of time in their crates during the day, judging from whenever I came in and witnessed all the dogs just sitting in their crates and not being able to roam free. Also a huge thing -- this place does NOT do positive-reinforcement training. Personally, I did not seem to find this training effective and my dog just seems very scared and runs away with this method. In our follow-up sessions, I had to watch Matt literally HIT my little puppy and THROW OBJECTS at her in front of me as a form of discipline. It makes me really uncomfortable and sad for my puppy wondering how harsh they must have been to her behind closed doors when "disciplining" her like this. I'm really sad about this experience because Matt and his family seem very nice and I really wanted this to work out. I spent a lot of time calling with Matt, texting, and even coming back for a refresher session but none of this seemed to help my puppy with her training. I literally feel as if she learned nothing, except for maybe potty training although she has been having pretty consistent overnight accidents since her stay here, and that I might as well have thrown my $1500 in the garbage and just trained her myself since that is what it seems like I have done. I tried asking Matt for some type of compensation or partial refund, since I didn't receive the benefits of the program and I am unable to make the long drive to come back for refresher sessions and put in that large amount of time so often, but he refused to work with me on that. Since my puppy is basically at square one now and practically has no training, I have started taking classes with her at What a Great Dog and she has learned so much more after just one class there than her entire 2 weeks of boarding here. Unless you have an extra couple thousand dollars to throw away, I would suggest taking your dog elsewhere or just training your dog yourself (you're going to have to put in that time and effort anyways after taking them here) so that you won't regret your decision like me. read more

Sending our goldendoodle to Matt and his team at Tame Dog Training has been the best investment we have made in our dog! We have now sent him through two of their courses: we sent him as a puppy, where they successfully taught him obedience fundamentals that allowed us to immediately break him of jumping, puppy biting, etc.. We had no hesitation to send him back at about 14 months old for more advanced training and learning boundaries after my wife and I had a baby. Tame Dog Training is the best! Matt and his team were so helpful and insightful from start to finish. We brought our 7 month old Bernese Mountain Dog, Monty, to Tame because we simply could not gain control of him. He thought he ran the home and was constantly unruly in our apartment - biting, jumping, grabbing clothes and towels, etc. He bit my fiancé a couple of times, and developed separation anxiety to the point where we could not leave our apartment without him being loud and distressed in his kennel. We worked with a trainer for many months of his puppy stage (from 4 months to 7 months of age), and even though this individual had many years of experience, it was to no avail. Matt and his trainers were amazing!! I brought my 1 year old German Shepherd to him because she was showing signs of aggression and being too over protective when strangers approached me. She even had animal control called on us due to her being aggressive with a neighbor. I did have her trained when she was 6 months with a positive reward based program which worked for obedience but it really wasn't enough for what my dog needed. After training with Matt, I have been able to walk my dog only on her e-collar in open areas with her responding very well and staying very close to me. She has not lunged at any bikes, cars, kids, or strangers at all. She had trouble with that before. Her temperament is definitely better, and she is less anxious when I am not around or have to step away. Their training location itself was also great. Dogs had plenty of space to roam and train. When I came to pick her up after 2 weeks, she looked healthy and well and was able to show me what she learned right away. We sent our 7 month old pup away for the 4 week training course and she came back fully trained and listened to us so well. So let me start by saying, that every "big" decision I make, involves a manila folder and a spreadsheet. We adopted our sweet baby, Luka, at 12 weeks. He is an Engapoo (half cavalier and half poodle). He is, and has always been, such a sweetie, but there were of course things we wanted to correct. At 7 months old, which I realize is still very young, I knew we needed help. Some of our challenges with Luka were biting/mouthing, house training, excessive barking, jumping up, and other 'dog-like' habits you would expect a puppy to do. My quick disclaimer is that we recognize that all of these behaviors are normal and they were not Luka's fault. If anything, the blame was on my husband and I for not working with Luka in the right way to teach him rules/commands that we needed him to understand. I began researching all over the metroplex. I created spreadsheets that measured cost, duration of board and train, facilities, reviews, methods used, cleanliness, hours dogs left alone (i.e. a store in a retail shop where they close at 8 PM and the dogs are left alone until the store reopens in the morning verses being trained in someone's home, etc). I had it narrowed down to 3 trainers, but after having just one conversation with Matt from Tame Dog Trainer, I knew that is where we wanted Luka to learn. Matt was responsive, he called me the same day I sent my inquiry, and spent over 30 minutes on the phone with me explaining his methods and initial thoughts on Luka's behavior. Once we had the paperwork in, we dropped Luka off. One of the deciding factors for us choosing Matt was not only the characteristics I mentioned above, but also the additional time he gives his clients to truly understand the training process. Some trainers take in your dog, teach them some commands and then return them to you without much follow up. Matt met with my family 3 times (in-person) throughout the course of Luka's training. The first time was at drop off, where we sat down and I specially was able to list the behaviors I really needed help with. The second time was three-quarters of the way through Luka's training, where Matt had the whole family come to his facility where he began our education. After we talked through Luka's progress, commands/key phrases, and things we, the owners, would need to do to help continue what Matt had started, we were able to work with Luka to practice what we had just learned. The 3rd time we met with Matt, he again, gave our family more information, and then allowed us to have another session with Luka while he was there with us. This way, he made sure we truly understood the commands and the best way to work with Luka moving forward. We still have one more opportunity to meet with Matt, which we hope to take advantage of soon. Matt does not just train your dog. Matt educates the owners, after downloading the information to your dog. He helps create an environment where you can set boundaries and expectations for your dog, which I truly believe your dog wants and years for. I can tell that Luka is SO much happier and SO much more fulfilled than he was prior to working with Matt. We have a daily schedule that we stick to. We still work with Luka a few minutes (every day or every other day) and Luka is THE MOST WELL-BEHAVED dog I have ever had the privilege of owning. Luka knows how to sit, kennel up, down, place, stay, potty and overall just understands boundaries. He is such an incredible part of our family, and always has been; however, now there is order, which to be honest, provides better balance for our family. I mean...wow. to say Tame changed me and my dog's life would be an understatement. I have a 6.5 year old GSD who turned aggressive a few years ago. Bit people, attack barking at random people, chasing people down the street, etc., and no way to stop her. I was embarrassed and defeated trying to handle her on my own - and frankly, scared... Matt is awesome with dogs! We sent two of our dogs to him for the 2 week board and train program. These dogs have some deep rooted issues with anxiety and fear, and Matt was so incredible with them. Luke, our super fearful rescue, does not take to new people easily at all. He still runs from family that he sees often. Matt was able to get Luke to eat food and treats out of his hand, approach him tail wagging, easily go in and out of his crate, and walk like a champ on a leash! He also learned obedience commands and has been such a calmer dog since coming home. Our other dog, Bodhi, is anxiety driven to a degree our vet didn't even know how to treat. Now, he will hold place for hours - and is so much easier to work with and manage. I highly recommend Matt and his services.
