This is an amazing piece of protected nature in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. I especially enjoyed seeing cypress trees and knees, wild coffee with its red berries, air plants, bromeliads, and many other native plants I couldn't identify. Restrooms & boardwalks were very clean & well maintained. Wear sneakers if you plan to explore the natural trails. My only suggestion is for the center to add labels to the plants and trees, which would make the experience even more educational and enjoyable. Love this place!

The view of the pool from the gym is a nice touch, and the space itself is thoughtfully designed with both a kids' area and a full size pool for laps. The new City of Sunrise Veterans Park honors the U.S. Military with an elevated memorial monument. The parking lot has designated spaces reserved exclusively for combat-wounded veterans. Next to the memorial is a labyrinth, an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness combining the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have a long history as meditation and prayer tools in memorials. Veterans Park also has paved walkways, a remembrance pavilion, picnic tables, benches, a restroom, and a boundless playground with a zip line, netted spinner, net and slide climber, spinning spinner, swings, rope pyramid climber, embankment slide and rope climber. The grand opening of the park will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 9 am to 12 pm with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 am followed by a free BBQ lunch. The first 200 attendees will receive a commemorative coin and T-shirt. Parking for the event will be available at the Faith Center, located at 5555 NW 95th Avenue. An example of a well designed neighborhood park is Welleby Palms Park, a small neighborhood park in Sunrise that is used by the Welleby Communities. There is no parking lot or restrooms which discourages use by anyone outside the immediate community. I find the parks in Sunrise to be exceptionally well maintained and Welleby Palms Park is no exception. Park amenities include a volleyball court, swings, and a playground with climbing structures and slides. I was impressed with how nicely landscaped the park was. During my visit kids were playing on the equipment and riding bikes. Due to the small size, recreational options are limited at this park. Fortunately the much larger Oak Hammock Park is located around the corner and within walking distance of this park. Oak Hammock has a nature trail, much larger playground, and restrooms.

It was named in honor of Pompano Beach Commissioner George Brummer who was elected in June of 2003. He was the successor to his friend, the late Vice Mayor Herb Skolnick, who served three decades. Brummer was well known and liked in Palm Aire where he served as President of the Civic Association. He was the one to suggest the creation of a park for Palm Aire. At the opening of the park George Brummer was praised for his leadership in both business and community issues and he was recognized as a champion for the Palm Aire community. At the dedication Brummer said he wanted people to use and enjoy the park. George Brummer Park was designed to appeal to all ages from youth to seniors. Park amenities include six popular pickle ball courts, restrooms, large shade covered playground, benches, tennis courts, basketball court, bocce ball, handball, and outdoor exercise equipment. While I was visiting there was a children's birthday party and people were playing basketball. I was actually kind of surprised at how many people were using the park given the heat index. A lot of the people in Palm Aire live in multi story condo units and this is the only outdoor recreation area they have. Fortunately the park is beautifully landscaped and well maintained. The City of Pompano did a great job exceeding Brummer's vision for a recreational area that the residents of Palm Aire can enjoy for years to come.

The 6.9 acre park is located next to the Department of Environmental Engineering. In 2022, Vinson Park received 2 million dollars of renovations paid with GO Parks Bond. The funding came from Margate's General Obligation Bond for Parks and Recreation Projects, approved by voters in 2018. On April 23, 2022 Vinson Park was rededicated by city leaders. At the reopening ceremony Margate Mayor Antonio Arserio said "We are thrilled to celebrate the renovation of Vinson Park and provide a public play space for children and families to enjoy the outdoors." The revitalized park was given a new splash pad, new fields with artificial turf, batting cages, restrooms, and a covered playground with artificial turf that provides protection from the sun. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into this park and Vinson Park has been transformed into a recreational show stopper for the City of Margate.

There is a dedicated parking lot, although it is a little small. It's shaded, which is really nice, but a few people did have to park down the street once the lot filled up. There are multiple areas throughout the park, and I love that so much of the park is covered. Especially in the Florida heat, having shade makes such a huge difference, whether it's summer or not!
