My husband and I started going to Gibbs Dentistry after he'd seen another dentist who recommended questionable and unnecessary work.

Enter Lafayette Dental Excellence. Dr. Leo, Jane, Mary, and Barb are everything I'd hoped to find, but never thought I would. Dr. Leo excels in the traits I value most in a dentist: patience, attention to detail, and outstanding knowledge of the most up-to-date advances in dentistry - in addition to foundational knowledge from experience, of course. Oh and, of equal import, compassion for my terror of anything remotely related to dental issues. Dr. Leo's assistant, Jane, could not be more kind and efficient. Mary, the office manager, is incredibly knowledgeable as well, so kind (must be a prerequisite for the office), and just fun to talk to - even in the midst of a painful dental emergency. Finally, Barb, my very first introduction to the office when I called, is warm and engaging. She sold me on giving the office a try, and I am so glad I did. Highly recommend this team.

I came in needing a root canal and was nervous, but they made me feel incredibly comfortable from start to finish. Dr. Woods reassured me the whole time, even when I told him I usually pass out after shots--something that's caused other dentists to stop working on me in the past. Not here. He kept going, stayed calm, and made sure I was okay. The procedure was quick and painless, and honestly, I couldn't believe how smooth it went. I've never felt this relaxed in a dentist's office. Highly recommend!

Unlike so many other dentists, I never felt rushed or talked down to. We came to a mutual decision that I felt comfortable with, and I never doubted that Dr. Wood had my best interests at heart, even if it meant turning down business for him. The lady answering billing questions was not very helpful and at times pretty short. Insurance can be scary and uncertain, and as a patient I want to know (1) what the procedure is going to cost, and (2) if there's uncertainty around costs, what they are, and how they might be resolved. Having a patient and empathetic billing person would go a long way to helping this.

When you are planning to get a root canal treatment here, make sure to treat the paper they give…read moreyou to sign SERIOUSLY because they lack the expertise and can easily fuck things up. Doctor, if you are reading this, next time be more cautious on your decision I guess and if you really mess things up please try your best to do the right thing. Maybe not charge the patient 104 dollars for nothing but pain. I visited Dr. Jon D. Libbesmier for endodontic therapy, asking beforehand if he believed the procedure was likely to be successful. He assured me it would be, so I went ahead with it. However, after enduring an hour and a half of intense pressure and discomfort--my jaw was sore from being open too long, and I could barely move my mouth--he informed me that the procedure had failed. This was after his initial confidence that it would work. Despite this failure, he said he would only charge me for the consultation, which my insurance covers at 80%. I thought, "At least it's not costing me too much financially, maybe just $16," and went to the front desk, still in significant pain and unable to speak or think clearly due to the numbing shots. The bill was $58, which confused me, but I was too weak and in too much pain to argue, so I paid it, planning to review the charges later. After a challenging recovery that involved significant pain, medication, and sick days, I discovered that an additional charge for a pulp test was added to my bill. This extra test made the entire consultation not covered by my insurance. As a result, I ended up paying $104 out of pocket, with no treatment done and my tooth in worse condition than before. I consider myself reasonable and am willing to pay for services I receive. All I ask is that the extra charge for the pulp test be removed, and that I only be billed for the consultation fee. However, when I tried to discuss this with the front desk, I was threatened with being sent to collections if I didn't pay. Avoid this dentist's office at all costs. They lack the necessary skills and professionalism, and their services are a complete waste of time and money. The total cost of the endodontic therapy was supposed to be $459 with my insurance, but because they failed the procedure and charged for something I didn't agree, I'm left paying $104 for nothing. It's ridiculous.

I have dental anxiety (don't we all) but they made sure to make it a great experience so thank you all. This is not a perfect 5 star review simply because of my checkout experience. They do not tell you ahead of time they do not take a payment plan, or at check-in either. And they also expect you to pay hundreds of dollars (after your insurance doesn't cover much like usual) before walking out the door. Not everyone has extra money laying around, especially with how bad the economy is nowadays. Glad I have a credit card for moments like this but still, it's pretty disappointing. Prepare to foot the rest of the bill after whatever you get done here!

They are prohibited by law from using a…read moredrill in anyone's mouth to shape a tooth, to do anything invasive, or that is outside the legal limits of their licensure that could harm the integrity of a tooth. Barron passes the duty to her favorite and believes that just because she's worked with her for years, that this is acceptable. That hygienist jacked my tooth leading to damage to another and Barron tried to excuse and normalize this. When I spoke out, she tried to bully me and gaslight me. Barron is a decent dentist. Her office staff are sweet. But, her hygienists act like border patrol. Her judgement and practice are not representative of CO law. This office is all about the upsale. If she says you need a root canal, get another opinion. Find someone else if you wish to avoid further financial and physical harm.

In response to Barron Family Dental's reply:…read more Before my appointment, I took deliberate steps to confirm that Barron Family Dental was in-network for my specific plan -- Cigna DPPO Advantage. I provided my physical insurance card to your front desk, explicitly asked for verification based on that plan, and was told more than once that your office and the treating provider were in-network. After receiving a significantly higher-than-expected bill, I contacted Cigna directly. During that call -- which occurred shortly after the appointment -- a Cigna representative and I searched their system for Dr. Abigail Nye. At the time, she was not listed under any Cigna network. Not just for my plan -- she simply did not appear in their provider system at all. Now, after the fact, Dr. Nye appears in Cigna's directory -- but only under the Total and Total Plus plan networks. She is still not listed under Cigna DPPO Advantage, which is the plan I have. Yet your office's own PDF -- linked on your website -- explicitly lists "Cigna DPPO Advantage Dentist" under accepted in-network plans. That was part of what influenced my decision to book with your office. The issue here is not just confusion over plan names. It's about negligent misrepresentation. I presented my insurance card, asked your staff to verify network status for my specific plan, and was assured that I was covered. Cigna's billing and coverage records -- both then and now -- do not support that assurance. I was billed at out-of-network rates because the provider was not, and is still not, in-network for my plan. Even if your network affiliations have since changed, that does not retroactively justify what happened at the time of my appointment. Patients have a legal and ethical right to rely on what they're told by a provider's staff when verifying coverage. If I had been informed honestly that the provider wasn't in-network, I would have made a different decision. This situation has caused avoidable financial harm, and I've submitted documentation to the appropriate regulatory authorities. The inconsistency between what your staff communicated, what your website claimed, and what Cigna confirmed is not acceptable. Your website says advantage dentists and I have a ppo advantage plan. Your desk people literally took my card twice and assured me I was covered, intentional or not if it wasn't untrue, that doesn't excuse it from being a point of negligent misrepresentation. This truly is a clear cut small claims case. As well as I have transcripts of the call logs with Cigna dental. Whether or not the dental board wants to waste their time with it is one thing but that doesn't mean that what I'm saying is incorrect. In fact I have a feeling a small claims court would see otherwise.
