The tamales are excellent. Having lived in Texas and California, as well as having married into a hispanic family, I have had many tamales. There are a few attributes that stand out on the ones from Tamale Box. The first is the size. These are big tamales. Secondly they are skillfully filled, meaning the masa that makes up the walls of the tamales is thin, but just thick enough to provide the needed structure so they don't fall apart. Many tamales are mostly masa, with hardly any stuffing--the stuffing in these tamales is epic, and the different options for stuffing are amazing. Next big thing, these tamales have the perfect level of moisture. So many tamales are steamed too long and come out dry, and THESE tamales are PERFECT. So there are a lot of variables where tamales can go wrong, and these guys got it keyed in. It's nice. In addition to that, the presentation of the tamales is very tidy. It is HARD to tie the ends of tamales to get them this tidy, and they snip the ends to make it easy to unwrap the steaming goodness within. The fresh salsa is very pleasant. I cannot handle spice well, and the temperature of the salsas was right at my threshold in a pleasant way. As for the venue, it is clean and sharp, simple and modern, very fun with just enough of a salute to the festive heritage of tamales mixed with a tasteful balance with minimalism. The accents of color make for a fun vibe. There are many drink options available, all of which are in glass bottles, which brings a nostalgia of older times that just makes my heart happy. Someone has put a lot of thought into all the right things, and all the little details add up in a significant way that makes this a fun restaurant to drop in for a great visit, or pickup, and all at a great price. For how good these tamales are, they need to charge more. It is great value. I highly recommend this place. read more
