I think this outlet is much better than the one and two star ratings it has garnered thus far from two other Yelpers. I visit this location every couple of months or so for a gander and almost always find something to buy and at steeply discounted prices to boot. Talbots is a local Hingham company that's headquartered here. Although this is where the company orginates, there are stores nationwide. The company has had some "style" hiccups over the years but mostly seem to have gotten back to basics which is their traditional to preppy look. I've found Talbots as a place to go primarily to stock up on basics that I can wear to work where a professional wardrobe is not only expected but how I prefer to dress as said professional. I can't tell you how many pairs of classic wool trousers, great wool skirts and terrific blazers that I've purchased here over the years. It makes going to my closet in the morning pretty easy when I have such a plethora of basics from which to choose. But on a more fun note, I've also found very cute summer dresses here including one just last week. It's a red and white sleeveless number with a cute bolero cut sweater to go over it. It's got a fitted bodice with a flared skirt so a little bit Mad Men retro. Is it June yet? This outlet has been in it's present location for a couple of years or so now having moved about a mile up the road. The previous location was bigger but I think this building and the interior of the store are much nicer. I find the saleswomen to be very helpful and friendly. In fact there is almost always someone right near the door these days to greet you as you come in and to tell you about special discounts. The sale prices are generally phenomenal with sometimes as much as 70-80% off. The very first Talbots store with the signature red door is very close by but generally speaking I see little reason to shop there. Wait long enough and all their overstock will end up here at the outlet. It's absolutely worth while to stop by this outlet at least once a season to see what you can find. I only wish Talbots would return to making clothing in the USA. read more

Talbots was acquired many years ago, the brand we knew (and loved) was destroyed with massive expansion and merch made overseas. Back in the day, and I mean WAY back, Talbots was THE place to get classic preppy clothing, When is was acquired in 1973 by General Mills, that was the slippery slope; as always seems to be the case when a great brand is acquired, & eventually goes public. It is all about money. Too bad Warren Buffett did not acquire them, he leaves successful businesses alone. When I lived in the Boston area I shopped frequently at Talbots clearance stores, but when they opened numerious stores at the outlet malls with merch produced ONLY for the outlet stores, I knew it was over. I used to live on the South Shore of Boston, where Talbots is more than a store; it's a religion. The retail giant got its start, and is still headquartered, in Hingham, MA. In fact, you can still shop in Hingham Center at the original "red door" site! How darling is that? I remember several years ago, the original Talbots Clearance Outlet, which was based just a little farther down route 3A than the site of the current clearance outlet in the Hingham Shipyard. With the change of address that occurred a couple of years ago (yes - it's so much swankier to be near a marina, a massive Whole Foods and Alma Nove, Chef Paul Wahlberg's restaurant, than a somewhat broken-down Old Navy!), the overall store experience has suffered. Gone are the rock-bottom priced amazement that was a hallmark of the original clearance outlet. I distinctly recall $1, $3, $5 and $10 sample finds; racks upon racks of gorgeous shoes and boots; summer dresses and blazers that were marked down 90 (!!!) percent; and belts and bags galore, all showcasing fantastic variety and high quality. Nowadays, perhaps the chain is starting to lose a bit of its luster again. Perhaps the brand's image escalated to heights it hadn't achieved in a long time (if ever) a couple of years ago, and mass production gave way to shoddy workmanship and styling. This is NOT your Talbots of a few years ago, when the store began trending toward actually being fashion forward, and away from the clothes that only your frumpiest aunt would wear. The new "clearance" outlet (I use the term loosely) boasts very few true bargains. The shoe department is the area that suffered the worst blow in the move up route 3A. Today, it's almost nonexistent, offering multiples of the same pair across a variety of sizes: typically styles that few, if anyone, actually wants to buy. The store that was once a regular indulgence for me has become a bit of an old memory. Now I go a couple of times a year, and while I still leave with a bag full of nice pieces that I certainly wear and certainly like, I've never recaptured that same feeling that you get (I call it the "insider's high") when you realize you uncovered a stash of hidden diamonds. Now, it's more like cubic zirconium; it just doesn't feel as special anymore. read more

Love, love, love this store. I try to get here a couple of times a year, and I don't live very close. They have wonderful bargains, and you can see the recent pieces that were in their regular stores, but heavily discounted here. They also have the regular 'outlet' merchandise which is lower in price that the stuff in the regular stores. When you go, be sure to leave time to go through the racks for great bargains. read more

Hands down, I'm a fan. The sales staff has been in place for quite some time, know their merchandise and go the extra mile to be helpful ( without being "pushy" ). I don't like to shop but, when I need something a few times a year, this store is my go-to and it's always a successful mission. And, it doesn't hurt that the prices are great. Talbot's clothing at Kohl's prices. All clothing is discounted and there is always a good selection including petites and plus size. The staff are amazingly helpful and the deals for clearance items are hard to believe - classic wool pants for under $10, thick cable knit cardigans for $4. Highly recommend this if you like the Talbot's look. read more

After my experience a few weeks ago I'm not sure if I'll ever come back here. I've loved this store for a long time but this cashier treated me poorly and made me feel uncomfortable. So I spent over $400 and I had a coupon and the lady had the the nerve to keep questioning me where I got this coupon from then she asked her coworker another cashier if the store took this coupon. Now that cashier said of course we do it has our store on it. So I asked my cashier if I could have the coupon back because it didn't say one time use only! So the cashier refused to give it back to me so the cashier that was beside my cashier gave me the coupon back and said have a great day! Long story short please make the lady at the register with the attitude be in charge of the fitting rooms or retrain her on customer service. read more

Talbots Clearance Outlet was my go-to in the 90's. Beautiful fabrics, great cuts and the DEALS?? Awsome! Last time there I noticed a trend which is now becoming the norm! Some of the clothes seem to have been MADE for the outlets...And it is quite obvious the quality, cut and fabrics are just not there anymore. Same thing w/ Coach, JCrew, etc. So...I guess it's time to jump into 2014. I will EXPECT less quality, poor materials and cheap cuts....and probably save a ton of $$! So disappointing! read more

This Talbots is far superior to many other Talbots outlets. Many other outlets have only the made for outlet clothing. This one has a mix of clothing from the normal stores that didn't sell and made for outlet clothing. I personally prefer the original store clothing not outlet which I was able to find here. Being close to headquarters the selection of merchandise is greater. The large footprint of the store allows for significantly more merchandise available. While I went during the post Christmas sale where things were extremely marked down I still found a large selection of sizes and styles. They even have carts for you to tow your goodies around. Easily one of the best shopping experiences I have had for post-holiday madness. read more

I am really writing about what a poor experience I have had with Talbots.com and calling their toll free number. I have to post here since the HQ located in Hingham, MA but does not have a Yelp listing. A December catalogue arrived today and all 6 items that I asked about were UNAVAILABLE! All Talbots can do is apologize but does not take any back orders and could really care less. Talking to Customer Service is a joke and more of an oxymoron since there is no service whatsoever for the customer! To everyone out there, this is a poorly run company. They say retail is dead but it is really due to firms such as Talbots that don't know what they are doing. No wonder Amazon is succeeding! read more

Yesterday, June 13, 2014, I took my elderly mother to Talbots Outlet in Hingham. The following is not exaggerated, nor am I in any way connected to Talbots. At the door, Doreen opened it and greeted us, asking if we needed any help finding things. We told her what we were there to buy: shorts and tops for my Mom. Immediately, she took us to the section, showed us styles and sizes, assisted my Mother in the fitting room. When a style was the wrong size, she offered to get another size, or to find another style that had the right size. Throughout, Doreen was solicitous and attentive. I was very appreciative of the help and thoughtfulness. My mother had an excellent shopping experience... not something she always has in other stores. When I remarked to her that this store was great, she added, "I've been to the Talbots at the SoShore Plaza, and they were very helpful to me there as well" Takeaway: my First choice for future shopping for my Mom will be at Talbots. They have won my admiration. Oh, and the items were all 40 to 60 percent off! So we got really good prices on the items. Shorts were 19 bucks, down from 44.50. Tops were 15 bucks, down from 32 ea.
