Solid food for a reasonable price. I ordered the Monday special which is the chicken finger melt - tasty and loaded with blue cheese, it could have used one additional chopped up chicken finger. I saw so many review's on here and figured there were too many positive reviews for me not to try it for breakfast and glad we did. We got there and Taki himself seated us, what a great guy, very friendly and happy to see us. Sat at one of the tables in the this little Greek cafe and had a simple egg ham and cheese on a hard roll #2 had french toast with strawberries. My sandwich was delicious, fresh roll, lean ham and egg with melted cheese, the french toast was by far the winner though, awesome! Honestly some of your downtown dining destinations have underwhelmed me but you were right on the button (mine) with Fables in the library and you've gone and done it again here. Taki's has unbelievable, and unbelievably cheap lunch souvlaki, average size portion and omgggg it was really good! It wasn't like some of the other souvies around here that I love (Towne, Altons, Nick's on Amherst, Spilios), it was more well done and charry tasting but it was very marinaded and I absolutely loved it. The marinade makes the souvlaki because it carries all the taste and the juice, and this marinade was utter perfection. Having had it twice now, it may be my fave Sousou in town and definitely the best one near downtown. Top 3 easily in the region and in a town with this much Souey in it, and this much good Suva in it, that is a real achievement. I really love Slak, it's one of my fave foods and it's really healthy and fairly cheap too. My little kitten Starlight adores Ski too. She says that Soki is her fave type of human ish food to eat. So there you have it. I highly recommend everyone try Taki's. If you don't, I'll come up with even MORE weird nicknames for Sovk. read more

Definitely a gem for downtown breakfast with great specials between opening and until 11am for breakfast. I ordered the steak and eggs for $8. Oh my god. This was the best value and meal I've had in a long time. The steak was super tender. So good. It was a thin cut, but still I would say at least 5oz or so. It was tenderized beyond belief and melted in my mouth. It was served with a side of A1 sauce, but it was so perfectly seasoned it practically didn't need it. The over easy eggs were perfect and the rye toast was delicious. The home fries were great as well. For $8, it was a steal! The restaurant has so much space too! Two floors. What a downtown gem. My entire family came here for breakfast after a wedding, they were more than accommodating for our very large group! The food was absolutely delicious, it was fresh, they kept refilling the trays and service was excellent. I came into town for work. I give this place for stars, only cause the server didn't understand sunny side down or didn't clarify understanding of "over easy". Felt the server was annoyed I was asking to fix it, by throwing it back on the grill. No utensils on the table, I had to ask for it. Came here for lunch and ordered the open chicken souvlaki. Warning: Don't come looking here if you like a tasty and FRESH chicken souvlaki. It's a shame, b/c the marinated chicken strips were some of the BEST and most flavorful I've ever had!!! But they serve it with what is *undoubtedly* bagged lettuce/salad. You know how pre-packaged salad mix has the vaguely chemical taste? Yup. You'll find that here... and the telltale carrot sticks/purple cabbage, iceberg mix. There was No romaine at all, which was sad b/c it's a standard at other great Greek local restaurants. It's disconcerting to eat a "salad" which is mostly WHITE in color! How is this even possible??? I find it very hard to believe that it's cheaper to buy pre-packaged salad mix versus just chopping up some heads of iceberg and romaine lettuce!!!! The only other highlight was the pita that came with it that was delicious, toasted nicely, and served warm. The greek dressing that was on the table was an absolute disappointment, also. Very very little seasoning in the jar and no "bite" or vinegar taste at all. It was seroiusly like pouring out mostly oil on your lettuce, as it had virtually no flavoring to it. Positively the WORST greek dressing I've had in Buffalo. (I have a hard time even calling it dressing since it was basically a container of oil with some seasoning flakes floating in it.) This would be zero or one star if not for the insanely good chicken. If you work in the downtown core and have not tried Taki's yet you are missing out! The food is fantastic. My favorite is the breakfast sandwich on a hard roll. But today I had a hankering for onion rings and was pleasantly surprised when I saw they were real and delicious. They know they cater to working professionals and as such are diligent about remembering the little things and especially cutlery. Oh and their prices are totally reasonable! They're fast, they're cheap, the portions may look like they're on the small side but they're filling. If you need a place to go for lunch where you know you'll get it fast and it tastes good, head to Takis. I don't think I've ever ordered anything that takes more than 15 minutes and they really make sure you are cashed out quickly and efficiently. I've dined in once and I was a bit close to other people to be honest but they have sanitizer on all the tables and work to make you feel safe. How many times have I chided establishments for favoring ambition at the expense of the simple, the basic? It doesn't matter how good your aioli is if the fries haven't been cut properly. Woops. I certainly can't accuse Taki's of delusions of grandeur, of bombastic ambition. It seems to aspire to simply deliver the simple. And you know what? The result is a staple. FOOD: Simply put, everything I've ordered here has been cooked *properly*, nigh perfectly. Home fries here are cooked in a delightful mixture of butter and oil, and the result is the most luscious side I've feasted on in the entire city. Order an egg poached (as I am wont to), and the egg will emerge silky and necessarily but not overly runny. (Buffalo restaurants have a bad habit of both undercooking poached eggs and often ignoring the application of a slight bit of vinegar to help them retain their shape, resulting in bad imitations of sunny side up eggs that ooze yolk all over the plate. Ugh.) Pancakes are thick and rich. Bacon arrives crispy with a nice degree of char. I could go on. These are all simple foods, but do you have any idea how many places manage to mangle such fare? The one caveat I do have to deliver is that Taki's does not appear to be employing marquee ingredients. Organic, free range, cage-free, and other such nomenclature are nowhere to be found on their menus. Oh well. These breakfast items arrive prepared so well that they satisfy where their more ambitious yet less precise brethren can't. SERVICE: Taki's only remains open until 3.00 p.m. daily, banking on the busy downtown breakfast and lunch crowds. (It seems as though their plan works well for them.) The operative word here is busy, and Taki's has accordingly employed a waitstaff that understands the needs of efficiency. Whereas peer restaurants like the Towne employ whomever they can, Taki's employs experts. Order details aren't missed. Bills aren't switched. Requests are fulfilled seamlessly. When I order my toast dry (no butter), it always arrives dry. Mugs of coffee get refilled as well as the waitstaff at Ristorante Lombardo refill water, at near robotic perfection. Why on earth am I praising restaurant 101? Because I've been to Bacchus, and Rue Franklin, and Towne, and Betty's, and on, and on and not received this level of efficient service. ATMOSPHERE: The decor of Taki's is stuck in that awkward but comfortable era of the late 80's and early 90's defined so well for me in the restaurant settings of "Sleepless in Seattle." Taki's lacks the chicness of Betty's, the oldtimeyness of Bertha's or Lake Effect, the grunge of Amy's, or the kitsch of Howling Rooster that imbue each setting with so much personality. But plush carpeting, super abundance of green, cheesy posters, and variety radio at a low hum invite. Though I'm often hear on my own with little but an iPad, I often find myself staying longer than I meant to. VERDICT: When I moved out of North Buffalo, I was pining for a regular, reliable breakfast spot like Howling Rooster (which I have so often raved about) within close proximity of my apartment. I tried Towne, Betty's, Mythos, Acropolis, and on and on. But nowhere was able to satisfy my demands for efficiency, comfort, value, and tasty breakfast numnums like Taki's has. I love, love, love this place. The first time I ever went was with a man friend of mine, who is a vegetarian, and we both got the broccoli and cheese omelet. It was good but I wouldn't get it with american cheese again, probably swiss. The big thing about Taki's for me, though, is their absolutely delicious home fries. THEY ARE SO GOOD. You can taste the subtle garlic and butter and the herbs are just perfect. The second time I went back just for the damn home fries. I dream of them. And the breakfast is cheap, too, about $6 or $7 a meal. As busy as this place is for breakfast/lunch I'm surprised it doesn't have more reviews. Try the breakfast, try the home fries! I have been here twice. I take a long bus trip to visit my mother and uncle who are housebound and the second bus I transfer to- the stop is across the street from Taki's. Both times I have had the place to myself, after breakfast but before lunch. Excellent service. Both times I got the steak and eggs with toast and bacon. Perfectly cooked and the glass of orange juice is huge. The price is more than reasonable. I am looking forward to visiting again soon since the weather is warmer. I was able to use my e-cig in there, no complaints- with my coffee before and after. Maybe it was because it was empty, not sure, but with the front door open it gets a really good breeze so i don't imagine any complaints in future. read more

We were immediately warmly greeted and given a seat next to the heater...great start to the meal! Taki's is definitely a no frills diner...simple menu but all you need. I had an open faced gyro with tasty gyro and warm pita to accompany. I had to get some extra! They asked if I wanted tzakihi however the waiter did not disclose it was 75 cents extra for a small container. It would be better to disclose the extra charge and also plate it given the fact that it was an extra cost.
