Valentine's donut
Kate M.

I ordered some Valentine's Day treats from Take Another Bite in Manotick and they were all absolutely delicious! The chocolate cake pops were heavenly - moist chocolate cake covered in more chocolate and sprinkles! I had the chocolate donut with the cherry nanaimo bar on top - my husband had the other. The icing was fruity and sweet and the heart candies were also fruity and crunchy. Great texture component and worked really well with the chocolate. The Sweetheart Box was filled with various cookie varieties and brownies. All very fresh, tasty and decadent! This is a quaint savoury and sweet food shop in Manotick and I would highly recommend it!

Lemon coconut squares. Wild blueberry lemon squares. Mac n cheese. Cheddar scones. Nutella cheesecake. Fruit crumble.

Cozy, quaint, yummy, fresh, flavour. Gluten free options. Try the gluten free raspberry chocolate brownie. Lemon cranberry muffin & blueberry lemon square. Mill St has a Stars Hollow feel. Felt like I was in an episode of Gilmore Girls.

Manotick has no shortage of cute cafes, even on Mill Street itself, so I was surprised when I heard about this cafe almost directly beside Miller's Oven. I assumed it was just a coffee shop, but this place is a bit of a hidden gem. Yes, they serve coffee and tea, but I think where they really shine is in their prepared food section. I didn't get a chance to sample any of it, but I was really excited to see to-go meals (I noticed lasagna, soups and some salads), and mounds of delicious baked treats (scones, chocolate cakes, tarts, cookies and more!). After a little digging I found out that this place is owned by Bianca, a trained chef who ran Take Another Bite as a catering company, and only in the past year decided to open a storefront and cafe. They offer all kind of classes including how to make your own pasta, macarons, baby food, holiday baking and more. I noticed other awesome finds, like homemade granola and packaged adorable cookies. This is definitely a place to stop if you're a foodie, or have one on a gift list. I wasn't particularly impressed by the staff, though I'm almost positive he was brand new as he had to ask his associate a question every time I asked him one. Nevertheless, he was still pleasant and friendly despite being a bit unsure (keep in mind this was a Sunday, and he was like a part time staff). Another bonus? Free wifi, with a password. The cafe itself doesn't have too much seating, but the front room, which is almost like an insulated sun room (this clearly was an old house), is gorgeous and sunny, and if I lived in Manotick I'd be there sipping a latte on the regular. There's about 4 small tables there. They also have a great little bar seating area for about 5 people. I was a bit disappointed to find they don't have any loose leaf tea, but the massive mug that contained my Twinnings peppermint tea slightly made up for it. I'll absolutely be heading back here on my next trip into the village to try some of their treats!

Delicious! Every single dessert I ordered was perfectly made. Paired them with a cup of Sloane tea, and I was in heaven.

Ordered a lemon blueberry cake for father's day. Unfortunately, cake was dry and icing was way too sweet. Home delivery was on point though.

Still on my search for the best matcha latte in Ottawa…read more.. Found this coffee shop when I googled best matcha in Ottawa. It's not too far from my children's school so I decided to give it a shot when I had about 90 minutes to fill after drop off. I am grateful I made the drive. This bustling cafe is super cozy and the staff were all extremely friendly. The cafe also sells beer and wine. Plus, they have kombucha on tap! I purchased a blueberry peach scone (will definitely be back to try the chocolate salted caramel) and a honey cinnamon matcha latte. The scone was not overly sweet, but still had a great flavour. The matcha was as good as the ones I've gotten downtown Ottawa. It was blended nicely and did not have any matcha chunks...love! Highly recommend if you are in the area and will definitely be back to try their food menu.

The interior is relaxing and charming with a mix of old and modern styles. The wall mural adds to the overall feel of the space. Staff are also charming. Very kind, welcoming, flexible and customer oriented. Menu is succinct but sufficient. Likely everyone can find something to eat. And, there's a large slection of scones and cookies to choose from, to go with coffee. My Date with Apple sandwich was delicious. Managed to get a bite of Hub'a Rueben, also excellent. All in all, a good stop.

The cafe is adorable with a lovely fireplace but even better is the healthy, unique menu which includes smoothies, juices, desserts, and entrees. Since we had recently eaten breakfast we got a juice, smoothie, stuffed grapefruit, and yogurt/granola bowl. Everything was delicious. Hope we can time a stop here on our travels back through the area.

Though they're located on a corner lot of a busy street, it's still a pretty unassuming little building. I definitely spotted the graffiti first before the Mimi's sign. One side of the small building is graffiti for Mimi's and the other side is for the Burgers on Bridge food truck right next door, both by local artist Falldowng. There's really just room for one or two people max to step inside the building to order at the counter, while other people wait outside. It wasn't very busy on a weekday just after lunch, but there weren't too many donuts left. They specialize in gourmet yeast donuts. We ordered cinnamon sugar, cookie monster, lemon meringue, Mexican hot chocolate, cannoli, and explosive chocolate peanut butter. I was expecting more pronounced flavours, more of a pop, especially in the Mexican hot chocolate and "explosive" chocolate peanut butter donuts. I think the lemon meringue was the most flavourful because of the tart lemon filling, but I liked the cannoli the best because of the cannoli filling with mini chocolate chips. They had a notice to customers that said their prices recently went up. Not sure what they were before, since this was my first time visiting, but we paid $20 even for a half a dozen yeast donuts. They also serve ice cream scoops, sundaes, milkshakes, coffees, and DavidsTea. The ice cream is from Central Smith Creamery. I also got a large cookie dough milkshake and a cinnamon sugar donut. You can get a milkshake with any of the ice cream flavours they have available. The cookie dough was good, more tame, which I thought was great for a milkshake, but I wish I had a bit of a bigger straw to suck up the mini chocolate chips. The donut was a classic, not too thick and not too airy. I'm not a big cake person, so we didn't order any of the cake donuts, but they did have a few available (s'mores, double chocolate, chocolate dip, and vanilla dip). They have a few small tables and chairs outside for groups of 2, a large parking lot, and a ramp for accessibility.

Really cool space, definitely would be great for an afternoon tea. They have an outdoor patio, not that it was being used despite the beautiful day. Pastries and food selection is great. The staff is friendly... but slow and easily distracted. The cashier was taking a phone order while several of us were waiting, pretty unacceptable when another staff member should be able to take a call. We ordered a coffee and a mimosa. Well, they had to go back and check to see if they had juice... they did not. I asked for just the bubbly instead, she had to go back and check again. How do they not know or keep things on their menu in stock? Oh well, they had the bubbly so it was okay. For food we ordered a pastry and a croissant sandwich. The biscotti and pastry were delicious. For some reason, they decided to panini press the croissant sandwich. What the heck, who would do that? Why didn't they ask? Tasty sandwich, but completely ruined due to crushing the croissant. We were expecting it to come straight out of the case and at most maybe microwaved to warm it, not just destroyed in a panini press. Cool vibes, nice atmosphere, food is good, tea menu looks amazing. But, the staff don't seem to have a clue to what they are doing.

The almond croissant was mediocre. After being warmed up by staff, it lost any flakey taste delicateness that it may have originally had. The pumpkin latte tasted like it was made with bitter, burnt espresso. There was a nice amount of foam and the aftertaste was milder and more palatable. I just moved to Canada and hoped this cafe, which is full of potential, would become my go to. I was disappointed, but plan to come back to give the lunch menu a try.
