Beautifully decorated with a vintage vibe and lots of shabby-chic pieces. They seem extremely popular and busy even mid-afternoon; jammed-packed the whole time we were there and with a waiting line-up for a table. Gentleman who seemed to be the owner or manager was extremely pleasant and went above and beyond to find us a table quickly (even moving chairs around) after Cousin and I explained that Boyfriend (who was outside parking the car) would never wait for the 30 min announced at first. All the staff there seemed very nice, fast, constantly cleaning, arranging seating, serving, etc. We only had coffees (which were fine but nothing mind blowing) so I cannot judge on the menu. Food was great, when we got it. It could be they were short staffed so I going to be nice with this review. If you go on a Saturday, it's usually packed. There were two employees, so the wait time was considerable. Hopefully, the next time will it will be quicker customer service. The food was good my friend had crêpes she enjoyed them. Came in at 9:20 am and the staff was still setting up and left me waiting. When the doors open, the place should be ready to go, i.e., all set up and fresh pastries in the display case. The pastries were at least a day old, and there were only a handful in . We had to ask for cream and napkins. Stopped for lunch on a Wednesday on our way through town. Friendly staff and plenty of lunch choices. Order at counter and they bring to your table. Ask to take a menu to your seat if you need time to look over the menu. Service was quick but not rushed. Chicken pesto crepe was flavorful and an appropriate size for lunch. Came here for breakfast sweetness last weekend! The inside of this cafe is beautifully decorated. A bit confusing if you're not a local because there is not a real service restaurant. You wait to be seated but you order first and they bring your selection to your table. Water is available but you serve yourself. They serve a variety of sweet and savoury crepes but also a variety of yummy desserts. It is a very busy place and I can see why! The crepes and variety of crepes are out of this world! I ordered the biscoff crepe....it was beyond yummy. It's the type of yumminess where you complete forget your with someone and focus solely on every morsel eaten. This was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise! I just picked a random coffee shop from the list in Yelp, and we had never been to this one before, then we were heading out of town, and this one was on the list. The ambiance struck us as soon as we walked in! It's beautiful in here!! The owner calls this place a Parisian style cafe, and we will have to bear that in mind for next time we visit, as we did not have any food for this visit. Crepes? I love them!! Next time. Okay, I am rarely in Barrhaven, but this cafe was worth the drive. They make some bomb crepes. Their chocolate nutella one hit the spot. They were super generous with the chocolate as well, which I appreciate. The crepes were warm, fresh, and tasty. I tried a bite of my hubbies french toast crepe which was sweet and savory. The hubby enjoyed his, but I preferred my chocolate crepe better. Cafe latte was also well made and enjoyed. We did want to try the snicker bar waffle which we saw on their website, but they did not have it on their menu at the restaurant. 2 crepes and 2 cafe lates ran us close to 40 bucks, so it's not a cheap lunch. Decor is on the fancier side, and I did notice a lot of the guests in the cafe dressed up (were talking pearls and the whole shebang, lol). There were also a lot of small parties taking place which made it pretty loud. We were there around 1:00 on a Saturday, and it did start to quiet down towards 3:00. They were also out of some items when we arrived. It is kid friendly, and they offer high chairs. They also offer high tea ...(or is it hi-tea? ...how ever it's spelled, lol), and you can also rent out the cafe for private parties. I'd come back for some more crepes. read more

I'll start with the few positives about this place, The decor and ambiance is decent, the service is ok and not too slow, the smoothie & tea were good as well. The negative starts when you go into the dessert. The pastries were dry and not very tasteful. Definitely not accurately representative of my homeland's desserts. The crêpe I ordered was advertised on the menu as containing white chocolate. However, as you can see from my pictures; the only white chocolate present on the whole plate was the two little candy melts on the top of the crêpe, that were not even melted. Also, be aware that servers do not come and take your order, you have to order it yourself at the counter, which is not a bad thing, but I'm putting it here as I did not find the information about the café while looking at it on Google and their own sites. As for the value, I was disappointed to find that it's quite overpriced for the quality. read more

We stopped in to pick up some desserts and drinks on the way to a barbecue and we were not disappointed. I forgot how nice it was inside! We're not comfortable eating inside just yet, but they do have seating available inside and on the patio. We got an Oreo brownie, a cinnamon cupcake filled with peaches inside, a blueberry lemon cheesecake cupcake, mixed macarons, a mango smoothie, and a rose-flavoured Marie Antoinette lemonade. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so it was nice that the lemonade wasn't overly sweetened and the couple bites of different desserts were just enough for me. A few weeks later, we decided to order a couple of crepes for delivery. I'm definitely a savoury crepe kinda girl, so I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Crepe and my husband ordered the Morning Glory Crepe and a mango smoothie because he enjoyed it so much the last time. The Chipotle Chicken Crepe was supposed to have chicken, tomatoes, onions, cheddar, and chipotle sauce. I had cherry tomatoes, no onions, and marble cheese instead, but no complaints here. The crepe itself had just a slight sweetness that you'd expect, and the edges were just a little bit crispy, how I like it. It was delicious and not too saucy or heavy. I had an apple cider latte the first time I ever ate there and it was so, so good. Next time! My husband's Morning Glory Crepe was supposed to have three eggs, spinach, onions, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, chose chipotle chicken instead of pesto chicken. It came with exactly the same fillings as mine, with the addition of the eggs, but he had no complaints either and also thought it was delicious and fluffy, still warm and not soggy like he was worried about with delivery. The smoothie was refreshing, but definitely on the sweeter side - not sure if they add honey or anything like that. It's been awhile since I've had a good crepe, so it was a nice change from the regular food delivery. Satisfying and filling, not at all greasy. I don't drink coffee, so I mostly come here for the crepes, but I recently found out that they also have high tea, so I'll need to check that out sometime. Love this local business! read more

I recently went to Café Cristal for brunch with a few girlfriends and we all enjoyed ourselves and our time there. The decor and ambiance was very relaxing and the menu had many options. I ordered the French Toast Crepe ( sweet) base on the staff's recommendation and my girlfriends both ordered the chicken one ( savoury) and we also ordered some cappuccino and Italian Soda. Our order came very fast and the crepes were warm, soft with smooth consistency- just everything a good crepe should be Café Cristal provided the perfect backdrop for us girls as we sipped our cappuccino, savoured our crepes and caught on each other's life. In other words- it was the perfect Saturday morning. Tip: Café Cristal can be quit busy during the weekends ( especially during brunch hours) so I highly recommend to make reservation ( which is what We did ) An alternative options is also ordering takeout which is a service they also provide. read more

I love this place! It's my go to Cafe in the barrhaven area because of its cute decor & excellent drinks & food! I'm not a big coffee drinker so I love their tea lattes and white hot chocolate. I went for brunch with a friend and tried their crepes which were delicious as well. I've also had some of their treats and I can't get enough of this place. Highly recommend though it is very busy so I'd recommend making sure there's a table free (: Also, the parking lot is quite small and always busy but I've heard there's street parking available. read more

This place is super cute! Lovely interior, lots of beverage options, and a few tasty treats on offer as well. There is lots of seating as well, so it's a great place to meet friends, host a knitting club, or even a local business meeting. I really like the decor of this cafe - the atmosphere created by the furniture and lighting is really cozy and inviting. The coffee is also very enjoyable and priced similarly to other coffee shops. Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and this place was already pretty busy. Located in a small mall, there isn't a lot of parking but enough for a mall that size. Inside, I felt the decor is almost Victorian-like with a bright look and atmosphere. Impressive considering this place is located in suburbia. Most of the larger round tables were taken so my family of five had to sit around a smaller rectangular table. Fortunately, there was still ample room and we were able to park our stroller beside our table. Some tables had "reserved" signs and I later found out that it was for people ordering the High Tea menu. I ordered a savory Chicken Pesto Morning Glory crepe with a medium dark roast brewed coffee. My wife ordered a savory Chipotle Chicken crepe with a medium cappuccino. Our two kids ended up sharing a sweet Strawberry Chocolate Banana crepe with a medium Pina Colada smoothie. Portion sizes were huge for the two savory options and they were very delicious with the edge going to the Chicken Pesto. The coffee was extremely good but sadly the brewed coffee was not bottomless. However, we weren't too impressed with the sweet options. The strawberries in the crepe tasted way past ripe (almost too soggy and wine tasting) and the smoothie was too sweet. Overall, this meal came out to just under $70 before tips so fairly pricey for a breakfast. I would definitely recommend the savory crepes and the coffee is some of the best you can get in the area. read more

When my husband special ordered a chocolate mousse for my birthday, he picks it up and they sell us a cake from Metro...to say that's dishonest and shady is an understatement- SHADY...and to ask for a tip upon payment!! NOT COOL! Nothing wrong with a metro cake but if that's what he wanted then he would have gone there directly...Could have saved gas money by going to the Metro closest to home! NEVER AGAIN! Wow, what a beautiful addition to Barrhaven! Close to cedarview. Went here with a couple of girlfriends; we relaxed, and chatted for a couple of hours over fragrant tea and delicious coffee. Their latte art is pretty, but what is prettier is the decoration here! I LOVE the traditional, Victorian-style décor they use; everything from the mirrors to the furniture reflects good taste. I wonder where they purchased all of it from! There was also live singing (Sunday night), which was very melodious and calming; perfect backdrop for our life chats! I have been to the Cafe 3 times and the first couple of visits were good. The third visit ( and I now fear last visit ) left a lot to be desired. Although 3 of us ordered tea, it was served in 3 cups with tea bags in them. We had expected a pot of tea. When we asked for milk it was brought in a paper cup. Solid espresso, a great atmosphere with lots of tables for chatting, working, or chilling, and zippy WiFi - what more could you ask for! When I visit my mom in Riverside South I am always on the hunt for good espresso as I'm not set up to make it at the house. I was super happy to discover Cafe Cristal on this trip on the other side of the bridge in Barrhaven. It was definitely worth the 15 minute drive from Riverside South! The espresso was strong and full-bodied but not over-roasted like the chain stores (*cough* Starbucks *cough*). The atmosphere was awesome - I saw friends catching up, people working solo, and others just stopping in for a quick coffee. I caught up on work, too, and the WiFi was nice and fast! I am from Toronto and trying to provide a surprise for my parents birthday in Ottawa. Uber failed to show up and deliver so Sophie came to the rescue and quickly prepared and even better surprise and personally drove the order to them. I was in tears so grateful that anyone would do something like this for a complete stranger. I hope Uber reimburses her for the cost of the double order. This place has the worst customer service!! I was there yesterday with 2 of my friends, the lady who was at the front is rude and not impulsive. First she asked us to wait outside for 10min as there was an order that she claimed she was working on. These 10 minutes turned in to 35minutes. Then we finally got in and before even we start ordering and without us asking any thing she told us that "FOR YOUR INFORMATION, THIS will take me AT LEAST 15 minutes ". No smile no nothing it feels like all she wants is people leaving the restaurant at that time. We left right away and I told her that the their customer service is the worst . I came here for high tea on a Sunday afternoon. There was a bridal shower going on at the same time doe the little cafe was quite crowded and we got a small table. The utensils and cups etc were all very pretty and fancy looking. For afternoon tea hey only have 2 options for tea: an orange pekoe type tea and earl grey. The pastries were quite tasty and the chef personally came out and introduced each pastry to us. Overall the service was great, food was great, I would recommend they expand the tea selection though. Great lattes to go or to enjoy there on a date or with friends. The crêpes look good but I haven't had one. Hard to find independent cafés in the burbs but this one is very charming. I wish the seating was more comfortable (you sink right in) but otherwise whenever I'm in town I like to go for a latte on the go :)!
