This authentic Japanese bakery truly hit the spot! They had a wide selection of pastries and ready to eat meals that were between $2-12 which is quite affordable in the city. If my stomach were bigger that day, I may have ordered more but I thoroughly enjoyed my somen and yuzu cake sandwiches. Highly recommend stopping by for a quick sweet treat or to try new or unfamiliar flavors!
Tried their $5.75 - 7 piece black sesame sliced bread loaf. Highly recommend!!! Bread is still fresh at end of day. The bread has a nice chew to it and the black sesame is nicely milled/grinded. Would come back to try their cold salads and drinks! Menu prices are reasonable for the WTC area and not crazy overpriced!
Wanted to get a desert on my way home from downtown Tribeca walk. Really was looking forward to a chestnut cup, given how rare a find it is in NYC, remembering how good it was a year ago. Today's experience was a disappointment. The cup was smallish, but that's ok. There was almost no chestnut to Talk about: just a small blob on top. The rest was a mixture of fresh cream, some other type of cream, and basic sponge cake piece. It used to be just chestnut & fresh cream. Why add sponge cake to this? Really odd. This location is no longer as fabulous as it used to be. Won't have this again. Two out of three servers behind the counter were horsing around - unprofessional & off-putting. The place is okay to hang & work, or chat, but their products are not high quality as they once were.
Food to go! Sesame and matcha cookies and one matcha crepe for the plane ride home. Best to eat the matcha crepe while slightly chilled and still tasty several hours later but don't expose to warm weather for a long period of time.

Went back another day to get matcha latte and california sandwich - Matcha does not seem properly blended and tasted a bit off to me. California sandwich was okay and on the pricier side. The line moves quickly and can get crowded during peak hours. Inside cafe is relatively big for a NYC cafe. Still a good option to have near office.
They have a great selection of delicious items at very affordable prices. I had the beef curry yaki, guava, ham & cheese panini, and apple danish, but favorites were the ham & scallion crossaint and the guava pastry.
I stopped by to pick up a pastry this morning on my way to Brooklyn Bridge. They had a nice selection of bread, although it was less traditionally Japanese and more Americanized than I'd expected. I chose the custard coronet ($2.85), which had rich cream (a bit too thick and heavy for me) that came out as I was eating it, but it was good. The staff seemed friendly and I'll keep this spot in mind for when I'm in the area again.
Love the summer rolls! Lots of fresh crisp vegetables with a bit of smoked salmon. Very unusual and different from the traditional summer rolls. The sauces set it apart even more: a spicy sauce with soy and vinegar and also a spicy mayo. Wow, healthy and delicious. I also got half a loaf of sesame bread. It's like the milk bread but with sesame. If you want to save money, just buy this bread and add your own eggs and use the spicy mayo that came with the summer roll. They charge $6 or $7 for an egg salad sandwich but two eggs are a lot cheaper. I made my own egg sandwich today and it was just as good as the one I got from here but a lot cheaper. The bread makes the egg so much creamier!
I visited this Japanese bakery and decided to try just one item. Their homemade ice cream sorbet. I went with the melon flavor, and it was honestly the highlight of my visit. It tasted very true to the fruit, light and refreshing. Not overly sweet. The bakery itself seemed quite popular especially with tourists. There was a steady flow of people stopping in, many taking breaks for a quick dessert or midday snack. They offer indoor seating which makes it a nice place to relax. I also liked how they gave free tap water and allowed paying customers to use the restroom. One downside was the lack of outlets for charging electronics. Overall, while the sorbet was tasty the service was a bit lacking.

In this area of lower Manhattan between FiDi and Tribeca there's not as much in terms of Asian bakeries so I'm glad this is here! An unassuming storefront with a smattering of seats inside, when you walk in, there's a display of chilled sandwiches, bowls, and food to go immediately to the right, then the counter wraps around with sweet and savory baked goods lining the shelves and fancier cakes inside a glass display. Along the left side of the store is a narrow shelf with loaves of bread and a few other items. Their pastries are tasty, and they're also known for their sweet cream sandos, cream-filled matcha crepes, and a variety of cakes featuring flavors like matcha, strawberries and cream, and Japanese cheesecake. I was in the area and dropped by around 5:30pm on a weekday right before they closed at 6pm, most of their baked goods were sold out by then; a few customers trickled in while I was there. Seems the last 30 min or hour at the end of the day the remaining individual-size breads are discounted. Since the selection was pretty sparse, I ended up only picking up a bun with sweet white bean paste filling, and the staff was kind enough to throw in a palmier bread too. That was very thoughtful thank you! Both were tasty and I will be back!
Super cute bakery and cakes. Got the buns and coffee. All were excellent. Freshly made and ton of pastry chefs in the back baking. Go early on weekends since items sell quickly.
Cute, relaxed bakery/ coffee shop with ample seating. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I stopped by for a quick bite before starting my day. I had an Americano with oat milk and a Ham & Scallion bun. Coffee was good and the bun was very tasty. Soft, slightly sweet bread that was generous with the scallion, which I loved. It seems to be a popular spot since I noticed a lot of people coming in to get coffee/ pastries to go. If I didn't have plans, I would have gotten a bunch of things to go, too! They also have hot/ cold foods available like salads, dumplings and sandwiches.
Reviews are generally positive. People highlight the wide pastry selection, popular matcha desserts, and affordable pricing. The cozy and clean space and friendly staff are also appreciated.

A classic Asian bakery with a variety of options! I stopped by to grab some items for lunch and it was quick and efficient to pick up a bunch of things. The bread is soft and fluffy and I really enjoyed the roe and potato bread, which was super unique and flavorful. Lowkey wish they had more of a website / social media presence though. read more
Walked right when they opened and got their Matcha Crepe and Matcha Croissant. First thing that impressed me is the portions, the crepe and croissant are perfectly sized - not too small for 1 person but also easily shareable between 2. Other positives were: lots of seating, no fuss ordering (they don't pester you for tips, thanks to Japanese culture) and a spacious restroom. The crepe was soft, and filled with vanilla cream and red beans - it was slightly sweeter than expected and the matcha flavor wasn't strong. I liked the overall flavor but definitely would have preferred it being more matcha forward. Same with the croissant, the filling was much sweeter than expected so I added my own matcha powder on top to add a little bitterness lol I think I will give them another shot and maybe get the Matcha An Pan next time. read more

Writing review for the Matcha crepe, but not for the bakery experience. I received the matcha crepe from a friend and I was at first puzzled as to what it was. A crepe with matcha? I thought perhaps this would be similar to the Lady M matcha cakes that I love. There were definitely similarities, this matcha crepe was a soft crepe with matcha powder and a strawberry cream filling inside, very light and airy. I really enjoyed the texture, what I would've liked more is the matcha flavoring. I did not really taste much of matcha, perhaps if the cream inside was matcha that could have done it for me. I would certainly like to visit this bakery next time I am downtown. read more
My all time favorite matcha crepe near the FiDi area! No questions asked, just go try it if you're a huge matcha fan like me. The matcha crepe is not too sweet and perfectly balanced with matcha powder and sweet bean cream inside. It is so, so good! My mother is also a longtime fan of this place. One of the best matcha latte's I've had in the city - the matcha has depth and is not on the bitter or grassy side. Highly recommend for their Japanese specialty pastries as well, I will surely be returning. It can be a bit pricey like other reviews have mentioned, but not surprising given the location. read more

As someone who's used to the NYC standard of bakeries selling out of all the good stuff by 11 am, it was a pleasant surprise to find a fully stocked case of desserts here 15 minutes before closing. The soufflé cheesecake was one of the most delicate textures I've seen achieved in a dessert while still retaining richness and substance, and not bland at all or overwhelmingly cream cheese-y like many cheesecakes. Similarly, the chiffon cake was the lightest texture with a perfectly paired airy cream and handful of berries. I think the cheesecake was my favorite but it seems like you can't go wrong here, everything is made with intent and care. Not much of a sit-down spot, but perfect for grabbing something after work to take home. I don't even have a sweet tooth but I'll be returning to this spot, no question. read more
I like bakeries. And this one has really yummy snacks, miso almond cookie, and custard pudding. Recently I discovered their cappuccino to be very delicious and melon puree(bread?). Close to where I am five days a week and quiet seatings, lots of options, w one bathroom. The kitchen is open so you can see the bakers. The cashiers are friendly. They sell hot food and soups. And also juices homemade in to go cups ready. read more

Was in the neighborhood and noticed this bakery so came in for a quick lunch. The fried oyster bun was pretty fresh and I liked the sauce it came with though it was definitely on the small side. The miso almond cookie I got was soft n chewy with hints of brown butter n caramel, super good, I would come back for that cookie alone. Besides that, the space itself is very quaint. A little small but the seating area is nice and has a view of the workspace where the bakers make the pastries which is nice to watch. There's also a drum of cold water which is a nice touch. I'd come back if I was in the area. read more
Finally tried the matcha crepe, it was great! Thought everything was very reasonably priced and the place had a decent amount of seating. I went at 10am on a Saturday and it was pretty empty with people coming and going. The coffee was also good- I want to come back to try the sandwiches! read more

Went again last week just to try a few new items and I'm glad I did. I added the Matcha pudding and the pumpkin pudding to my order, and both were absolutely amazing. The texture, flavor, and presentation were all spot on. Every time I go, Takahachi continues to impress with both quality and consistency. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the city. read more
This is hands down my favorite bakery in NYC. So many bakeries in the city are all about the croissant/laminated pastry wave that's oh so popular right now. But this bakery feels like a more home-y and nostalgic version of my favorite Asian bakery chains (Tous les Jours/85 Degrees/Paris Baguette). Everything is freshly baked in house daily! You can even see the bakers whisking/crafting away in the seating area in the back of the bakery. - Guava and Cheese Bread (8.8/10): Soft milk bread with a guava jam and cream cheese filling. So good. I was dubious about the guava flavor but honestly it blew me away. - Sweet Cheese Bread (9/10): Perfectly soft milk bread with a sweet cream cheese filling, and a cake-like topping! What's not to love? Genuinely my perfect sweet Asian bread Everything that I've tried here has been delicious. I'm confident that you can't go wrong with whatever you get. Tribeca is pretty far from me but I'd definitely travel across town to get my hands on their sweet breads. read more
Been a while since I've been here so decided to come here for a quick bite and a sweet dessert. The shrimp sandwich was just okay and the dessert I got, Mont Blanc (I think) was not too sweet and chestnutty. Overall, still a really good bakery and would definitely come and try their new items as well as recipes. It was also very pack but the service was fast! read more
Came here to try their matcha crepe and was completely bummed out when I was told that they weren't ready yet and that it would be a 30 min wait. Lesson of the day: come here after 10:30-11am if you want to get your hands on the matcha crepe! I ended up "settling" for their matcha and red bean bun, beef curry bun and guava and cheese pastry and these were delicious! Also got the egg salad sandwich but I wasn't nearly as impressed with this one. It turns out they have a ton of other mouthwatering buns, pastries, cookies and cooked food as well so don't fret if the matcha crepe isn't available. Prices are very reasonable and service was friendly. A bit out of the way for me so I don't think I'll be back anytime soon but definitely an excellent option for Asian pasties if you're in the area. read more
Small bakery with big selection of sweet and savory baked goods and some cake as well. I enjoyed selecting a number of the pre packaged baked goods. I really like red bean so I got some of the red bean buns and I shared it with some friends. We all loved it and it has generous red bean filling. I can't wait to enjoy the rest. I got some curry filled buns, crème filled buns, and melon bun. The staff are very nice and there's some table seating available. I got a hot latte and it was quite good. Really lovely bakery located downtown. Stopped by during my lunch break and got a latte and their infamous matcha crepe. The drinks are some of the most reasonably priced drinks I've seen in the city and do the job. The matcha crepe was absolutely delicious, and super light and fluffy. Plus it wasn't too sweet! They have some hot food items and quite a large variety of baked goods. Definitely will be a go-to lunch break spot whenever I'm in the downtown office! read more

Takahachi is my go to bakery for birthday and holiday cakes. It's always super cute and with high quality ingredients. You can argue that it's not as refined but I like this neighborhood style. They're so much cheaper than other bakeries that I am willing to buy from. Their matcha mousse cake is my absolute favorite. My brother likes their strawberry shortcake. I'm also happy to have their opera and cassis noir if I'm trying to order multiple small slices. I haven't seen their matcha burrito in a while but that's a fun cake to have too. The only inconvenience is that they don't open on Sundays so I can't arrange it for any Sunday occasions. read more

I've dropped by and bought whole cakes plenty of times, and yes, they'll write something on it for you. They write it on a cute little candy sign they then stick on the cake. I've even asked them to write messages in Japanese for a friend visiting…
