We order naan and garlic naan, Chana masala, Chicken vindaloo, chicken xacutti, malai kofta, chicken dal piazza & beverages. Service was quick. Spice level is mild, medium or hot. They give you plenty of food. Each dish was very tasty. Small dishes of egg plant dip and raita were offered with our meal. I got a spoon of mouth freshener (fennel seeds and bits of fruit). A small man in stature but his presence is big and I tipped him big every time I went to dine in for the Buffett. Loved eating here until the pandemic and they took the Buffett away. I usually go for dinner but today we were out and about early so we made it in time for the lunch buffet and it was absolutely delicious! The butter chicken was my fave and the chai is always good. My son got the kids chicken cheese naan and fries. The naan that came with the buffet was perfect and the ambience was real chill. We ordered a good variety of dishes. The goat and chicken biryani were quite underwhelming. Both lacked the depth and complexity of a biryani, the aromatic dry spices and layered flavors were missing. It felt more like spiced rice tossed with unevenly cooked meat. Some pieces were tender, while others were noticeably tough and dry. The Malai Kabab was among the good ones, though it was, again, inconsistently cooked. Some pieces were moist and flavourful while others were chewy. The Paneer Makhani was adequate, though the flavor profile could improve from a better balance of richness and spice. The biggest letdown was the Veg Manchurian. Despite its appealing presentation, the dish had an overwhelmingly sour, almost off-putting flavor. The gravy looked appetizing but tasted flat. The Reshmi Kababs were sadly dry and overcooked, instead of the tenderness and succulence i expected. The chai had a cardamom kick, which can be great, but it leaned a little too heavily on that. It could've used a few more minutes on the stove to really bring the flavours together. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant and the service was okay. read more

The goat biryani wasn't even biryani; it was just pulav with unevenly cooked chunks of meat tossed in. The Manchurian balls were the wrong kind altogether, soggy and flavorless. The paneer gravy was easily one of the worst I've ever had completely bland and poorly prepared. To top it off, the chai was watered down with zero real taste. So I had takeout that I went and picked up. We probably have eaten here three dozen times over the years. Both dining in and takeout. I always Felt they had the best Indian food in town because it was fresh. I must say I was very disappointed in tonight's food. We started out with some vegetable samosas that were pretty good. I used to think all the sauces were homemade, but not what we had tonight. We had two orders of tandoori chicken, which was older it wasn't fresh and it tasted like it. No fresh onions and green peppers. Old onions, and green peppers. It was not good . Had butter chicken, which I did not eat, but my children said was good and then I had the goat Kadahi. Was somewhat flavorful, but again the product did not appear fresh. Face to make the best basmati rice. Not tonight again tasted stale not fresh it was not fragrant like it usually is. Had four orders of non-and they were like non-crackers. They were so thin! Good flavor, but Chris that you couldn't use to pick up the food with. Thin, thin thin. Much thinner than they've ever served before. I was told that my order was $109 and then when they rang it up it was $113 and change and I asked why and they said there's a credit card charge. First time I've ever seen that here. I always tipped the counter people when I pick up takeout. Not a normal tip but I throw them something and I was upset about this four dollar charge that was a surprise. Food was disappointing as was the bill. I guess it's time to find a new go to Indian restaurant. This has been the only one that stood had shoulders above all the competition. But, the food was bad tonight. I'm not gonna run back there. I was the first to review Taj Grill so it pains me to say this -- it never lived up to my expectations. Since Taj opened, many more Indian restaurants have opened in Buffalo. Most are Bangladeshi, which I really like, so, I find myself going to Taj less. But every now and then when I crave northern Indian food I'll go to one of Buffalo's two mediocre places (the other is India Gate). But both keep getting worse. The last time I dined in at Taj the dude serving was so rude and neglectful I had to say something. A recent delivery order was also a letdown. The goat biriyani cost $23 and was nothing more than some mushy rice with a few bits of goat fat and bone. The shrimp makhani cost $22 and had about 5 tiny shrimp in it - much smaller than you'd get in a typical Thai dish. The worst dish was the lamb vindaloo, which was tasteless and not spicy at all. I even ordered it hot as I was really craving a super spicy dish. With the drastic increase in prices and steep decline in quality it's unlikely I'll order again. I might go again if they bring back the buffet, but otherwise I'll probably stick with my Bangladeshi places. read more

This time around, my date and I came in for an early dinner. We were greeted by a nice server who was very attentive throughout the evening. The menu has a plethora of dishes including appetizers, various dishes with all kinds of meats, vegetarian options, desserts and drinks. They also offer you various spice levels depending on your preferences. This time around, we shared the lamb samosa and paneer appetizers. The paneer came out hot and sizzling and the samosas perfectly warm. For our main dishes I had the lamb palak and my date the lamb biryani. Both dishes came out fresh and flavorful and also, not too greasy. They came with a side of rice as well. Overall I was very pleased with both dishes - the meat was cooked perfectly. Overall I've always had plenty of great experiences at Taj Grill. I've also had their catering at other events and it never disappoints. For my first ever time ordering Indian takeout, I figured I'd give Taj Grill a try, as I've heard so many great things from others. I certainly was not disappointed! A lot of Indian cuisine is new to me, and their menu is so big, I had trouble choosing what to get! We opted for an order of garlic naan, chicken tikka for me, and chicken tikka masala for my boyfriend. Our order was ready an hour after we placed it. Everything was nice and hot when we sat down to eat it, which I appreciated! The garlic naan was oh-so good. Buttery and flavorful. I'm a bread lover though, so I knew I'd be impressed no matter what. I really enjoyed my chicken tikka, each piece of chicken was pretty big and the spice level was to my liking. My boyfriend's chicken tikka masala was tasty as well, and they gave us a heaping order of basmati rice to go with our entrees, which we enjoyed a lot too. Our meal was on the pricier side, but it was definitely well worth it because we have a lot of leftovers to eat tomorrow! Sometimes I wonder how I go so long without trying certain restaurants and Taj Grill is definitely one of those places. This place is located right down the street from me and offers some top notch options (especially if you come for the lunch or dinner buffet). I stopped in here on Sunday afternoon while struggling to pick a place. The Restaurant itself was pretty standard for the most part and had a super friendly staff. The lunch buffet selection was pretty massive and featured all different kinds of pork, chicken, rice, and chickpea dishes (I'm terrible at remember most of the actual names, so bare with me). I enjoyed every single dish I tried from chicken tandoori, butter chicken, and lamb vindaloo to the naan on the side. This place is absolutely wonderful and has some of the best Indian food I've eaten in the area. I highly recommend giving this place a shot! read more

After spending an afternoon wandering through Delaware Park, we decided to grab some Indian food in the city. I spotted Taj Grille online not far from where we were and we decided to give it a try. Our waitress was extremely helpful after I told her of my dietary restrictions. We started with the eggplant pakora (vegan)- delicious! We really loved the chutneys that came alongside and saved them to have with our dinners. For our main course we ordered the baingan bhartha (vegan), chana saag (vegan), and chicken kashmiri. They came out piping hot and with a side of basmati. Our waitress brought some pickled veggies instead of the normal chutneys because they all had dairy in them. Everything was delicious. My boyfriend actually sopped up every last drop of sauce with the roti we ordered. I ended up having to bring home some leftovers of my veggie dishes which made for a delicious lunch the next day. My only regret is that we don't get into the city more often because I definitely want to come back for a visit! read more

The home of my fav rice dish "Chicken Biryani" I am obsessed Okay?!??! I leave out the cashews and raisins and I just indulge in this amazing dish. Of course I order mine "spicy spicy" and I order the garlic naan to be it's companion. It's like a true match made in Heaven. The restaurant is always clean and tranquil. The staff always looks so regal. I will admit that not everything here is my favorite. For instance, I do not prefer their samosa's. To me they were a bit dry. They are huge but need something extra. I also am not a fan of their rice pudding but that's a risk that I chose to take on my own lol. However, the rice is AMAZING. I will definitely be returning to enjoy their buffet which they have a lunch and dinner buffet available. I was told that the Chicken Biryani will not always be on the buffet menu, but that's okay I am still excited to return for the buffet. The one thing that's also hard for me to deal with is the split hours. Its usually during the time of day that they are closed when I want to order; and by then I've forgotten that their hours are split. But when you want Biryani you want Biryani so the wait was worth it looool. read more

Each time I've been here I've gone with friends who have basically made this place their go-to dining spot when they're somewhere downtown. I can certainly see why, it's such a great spot to get Indian food, I don't know if I'll ever go anywhere else! I've dined here during dinner, and have also had the chance to catch the tail end of their lunch buffet (made it in the door by 2:10p & the food was still hot!) and I honestly can't find anything bad to say about this place. The staff here is generally awesome and very friendly. During my first dinner experience we had a pretty big party with us, but we were served in a very timely manner. I enjoyed the fact that it was basically family style, so I was able to try a little bit of everyone's dishes. I really enjoyed my second visit though, since the lunch buffet was still set up by the time I got there, and I was able to completely stuff my plate. I really want to come back again for the buffet for sure - it was just awesome to be able to sample all sorts of different things (I can't remember what each dish was called since I basically grabbed everything I could see). What a gem! I visited here twice and both times was quite happy with the flavors, portions, prices and atmosphere. The table service and staff was friendly and take the time to explain the dishes and ingredients. I highly recommend the lamb masala and/or butter chicken. Big tastes! Worth a visit. Before 3pm they offer a lunch buffet which offers some really nice options. Some of the items like the rice pancakes and deep fried bits werent so good, but there are solid flavors in the curry, masala and butter chicken categories that really make it worth while. Also, the salad area and desserts are really nicely done too. The menu can be a bit much but I highly recommend pretty much any dinner entre. During lunch time they offer a buffet for $11.95 a person, not a bad deal. The choices are a couple of different dishes with chicken like tandoori, one beef dish, a couple of veggie dishes and pieces of chicken with roasted veggies. Very different flavors, some very spicy, some not. I regret writing down te names of the dishes, sorry. I finally made it to Taj Grill for dinner. I had been to the lunch buffet a few times in college and I always liked it. It was actually Pavan (who we know from frequently lunching at Jasmine Thai) who convinced my mom and me to visit for dinner. We had an amazing meal with the best service possible! I was overwhelmed by the menu. There were so many options! Much to my delight, they had a great selection of Naan (Indian oven-baked flatbread). I have only tried Indian food a handful of times and I am clueless when I read about 90% of the menu items. Pavan was more than happy to help us decide. He asked us a ton of questions about what type of food we were in the mood for and then made a recommendation. He did a perfect job! If you are going to Taj Grill for the first time- be sure to request him as your server. He is so friendly and very knowledgeable of the entire menu. We started with Chai. It was absolutely delicious, as always. We split the Taj Sampler so that we could try a variety of the Indian appetizers. The Taj Sampler included: Lamb Samosas (Patties stuffed with lamb, peas and spices), Alu Tikki (potato cutlets mashed deep fried in chickpea batter), Bhajia (fresh vegetable fritters dipped in chick pea batter), Paneer Pakora (homemade cheese fried in chickpea batter), and Chicken Tikka (Chicken breast marinated in yogurt and spices). Everything was delicious and perfectly spiced! My favorites were the Lamb Samosas and the Paneer Pakora. We decided to split an entree because we were already almost full! Pavan insisted that we try the Chicken Xacutti- spicy chicken curry with roasted coconut, red chiles and spices. We had the chicken with white rice and garlic naan. It was divine and unlike anything I had ever tried before! I would definitely recommend this dish to anyone who likes medium spice. The Garlic Naan was perfect with it. For dessert, Pavan brought us the Rasmalai- homemade cottage cheese in a sweet milk, garnished with pistachio. It was excellent, such a unique consistency! I will certainly be returning to Taj Grill to try their other options. In addition to the delicious food and excellent service, the restaurant is a very relaxing place to have dinner. OK - I usually don't write reviews for places that already have so many, I mean what can I really add to the conversation? However, having spent a lot of time in India, I wanted to chime in here. I came for the lunch buffet recently. One companion. We were able to get a booth, I love that they ask and then seat you in one if its open. This was a Friday, the place was not full, but by no means empty. We both opted for the buffet, and I have to say, it was very very good. I eat alot of Indian, especially in India of course, but also in NYC where we had alot of choices, including some vegetarian Indian places. So I have had many an Indian buffet. This one had two chicken options, one beef, one vege (my day was squash and potatoes, which was good, with a little "kick"). There was rice, good, a number of pickled vege options, s a few dessert options, and naan. The naan comes to the table, heated, as it should be, and was tasty. Since I'm not sure if the buffet options are the same every day, I'm not mentioning them by name, but the ones we had were all traditional Indian dishes, all well prepared and fresh. I tried each one. I did think there could have been a little more heat on the table, maybe label it as "spicy" or something, but there are people who like heat/spice in Buffalo. Mango lassis were TERRIFIC - if you like lassi, you will like theirs. They have an extensive menu, and I'm looking forward to trying something off the menu sometime soon as well. Overall, I loved this option to the Buffalo dining scene. I will be back. My one irritation was this - we wanted to do a takeout order off the buffet as well. Evidently that costs more, and they weigh the portion (has to be under 2 lbs). I was astonished. I explained the takeout was for someone who is tiny and we would not be taking much at all, far less than we ate. Did not matter. We were charged +-$10 for that, given a Styrofoam box and told to take what we wanted. I can only assume this is because students have come in in the past and loaded up ion the buffet food for takeout or something. But since we are clearly not students, I explained this was for someone who did not eat much, I found it overpriced and actually offensive on the weighing side. This is my second time visiting this place and both times it has been amazing. First time I went for the buffet and everything was fresh, tasty, well seasoned and HOT! Second time I went for dinner and they got busy pretty fast, but we got in just in time. I ordered the veggie samosa and lamb samosa, they were both delicious. I have had samosa at other places and is always over seasoned but this one was well seasoned and very tasty. I ordered the chickpea chutney extra spicey, basically chickpeas in a curry sauce and it was really really good. It came with fried flat bed on the side, the bread was a little greasy for me but overall I liked it. Hands down, best Indian place to come to in the Delaware area. Never had a bad experience here the past couple of years. The wait staff really know what's good on the menu in case you don't know or it's your first time. My first time was amazing. Little awkward, didn't know what's going on, had an idea but it's different when your there. Curries are a solid choice, tandoori is also a good choice. Usually comes with a side of rice to share. I love their butter chicken, vindaloos, and tikka masala. Order a side of garlic naan. You think you like bread, this type of bread will change your life. Remember carbs are your best friend(if you eat a reasonable amount) Everything in moderation. Great for dates and groups. The family style eating where everyone tries different dishes is fun and humbling. You fill the plate in front of you with other people's food(if your group is friendly enough), you're only paying for your own order but you're trying and eating other people's food. Sounds like a great time to me, it's like free food but not really. Sometimes they can get busy in which you'll spend a decent amount of time there. This is not fast food, it's reasonable speed food. Hands down one of the very few decent Indian restaurants in buffalo. Banana leaf in Clarence remains my favorite because it's South Indian food and not the same Indian food you get everywhere. But I digressed. Taj Grill serves up your typical Punjabi food (North Indian). Samosas are huge and full of potatoes and peas which I love. They do make attempts at South Indian food like their Goan fish masala which is actually fantastic. The only issue is for the price you pay there's barely enough fish vs curry. Their version of butter chicken is interesting. Although it tastes great don't get me wrong, it's not really butter chicken. The flavor yet alone the color of the dish is not your typical butter chicken. The manager, oh man is he a handsome guy! read more
