This was my first visit here and WOW! I was impressed! My husband and I had movie tickets to see Pee Wee's Big Adventure at the North Park Theater to honor the recent passing of Mr. Paul Reubens so I said let's make a night of it and try India Gate right down the street. I adore Indian and he likes it too. So we made reservations for 7pm on a Sunday. When we got there it was obvious we didn't need a reservation as the place wasn't very busy but the gentleman who greeted us knew my name as soon as I said while looking around "we have a reservation-- not that I think we needed one but hey--" lol We decided to sit on the patio and I'm glad we did. It was such a nice evening and we watched the cars and bicycles go by. We had quite a bit of time before our movie so we started with cocktails. A Heineken for him and a strawberry Lassi martini for me. YUM!! When it came to the food, we started with an order of beef samosas, which were very good. We also sprang for a plate of chicken pakora. My husband had never had pakora before and he didn't like it, but he liked the samosa quite a bit. For our entrees he went with the beef curry and I stepped out of my usual and went with the chicken vindaloo. I almost always get Makhani-- unless I go with saag alu, but I decided to branch out and I'm glad I did. It was great. Of course I had to have some garlic naan and a small side of raita, and when I was about to order some mango chutney, our server asked if he could make a suggestion and then easily talked me into trying the spicy pickles. WOW!! They were so good!! We I should add that we asked for our dishes to be made spicy and boy oh boy did we get spicy! Don't get me wrong, my husband and I wanted it spicy-- it's just that we usually don't get it. If we order delivery and ask for spicy, it comes spicy. If we go in person and ask for spicy, we get something closer to mild. I have come to the conclusion that people who look like us who THINK they like spicy food, actually don't. WELL, WE DO! When I go to Vietnamese restaurants I get often have to get a dish of chopped Thai chilis on the side of whatever I've ordered because it usually isn't hot enough. But this place accommodated us right out the gate!! Phew!! This is the first place I've been to in the Buffalo area that actually made the food hot enough for us the first time! They had a separate drink menu that included tea, smoothies, cocktails and wine (and maybe beer? I dont remember). I always appreciate a good drink menu! The food menu was also extensive, well organized, and felt like a nice book! All sorts of options, including vegetarian. This was my first time eating Indian food so i loved how everything had a description. Food came out hot and in large portions. Everything was also very reasonably priced. I ended up getting garlic naan (delicious) and chicken butter masala. This was my first time eating indian food, and i'm not sure if its for me, but i'm glad I tried it (i'm just not super into spicy food, but of you love lots of seasonings and spice, you'll enjoy it!) I can't believe I've never reviewed this place before! Hands down, my number one option for Indian cuisine. Conveniently located on Hertel, they have their own parking lot and generally aren't too busy. The waiter is always super friendly and inviting. Anything you want, he will try his best to cater to you! The lamb kabobs are delicious and served with a perfect brown sauce to top it off. The brown sauce has a bit of a sweet aspect to it. The butter chicken tikka masala is my favorite dish. The chicken is tender with a creamy sauce. The chicken tikka masala is a bit spicy and has a lot of onions, tomatoes and peppers. Delicious Indian food. We ordered to go yesterday and got the lamb vindaloo and the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. Both were amazing, the tikka masala was different than I've had previously as the vegetables were chopped up in the sauce but I actually enjoyed that. The vindaloo was perfectly spicy. They didn't have our order ready on time and definitely missed it as when we arrived they initially didn't have our order at all and then "found it" after refreshing their order page. Had to wait another 15 minutes after waiting 30 when we placed our order online. Not the biggest deal but maybe try calling directly vs using their online ordering. Irregardless we will absolutely order from here again, well priced for your portion and so tasty! read more

We did take out from here recently. Lunchtime order. Order was easily placed and taken, order was ready when it said it would be, well packaged. Cost is reasonable. Inside, when you go to pick up food, you'll see plenty of tables, and they are nicely spaced. They also have a full bar. They have off street parking, which has a nice mural to look at. read more

They have affordable carryout, free parking, nice people working there, a front patio, tons of veg and vegan options (it is Indian food, after all) and, most importantly, will spice it up to your specs. No one needs bland, diluted Indian in their lives, and anyplace that will customize it to your spice levels rather than deal you the lowest common denominator of the buffet is a win in my book. I was in no mood to cook so we decided to try a new Indian restaurant. We ordered the vegetable platter, garlic naan, and chicken madrasi. I loved some things from the platter like samosa, aloo tikki, and onion pakora. A couple of other things were bland and so-so (paneer pakora, cauliflower pakora). I didn't like the green and red chutneys/dips they packed for garnish; we ended up eating our homemade chutneys instead. The chicken dish was okay and the naan was a bit stiff and chewy instead of soft. But the flavor of everything was good. My FAVORITE Indian Food in Buffalo and I'd eat here every day if I could. I loved the old location too and was thrilled when this one opened closer to me. Every time someone visits from out of town, I bring them here. Whenever my dad comes to visit it's not Anchorbar or any of those wing places he needs to go to--it's here. I want to order their saag by the tubful. They've also got great parking and it's never too crowded so it's easy to get a table. The food was good. The atmosphere was good. No complaints. The were other things I viewed not so positively, hence the three star. The main problem was one cup of Chai is $5.00. That is expensive for a non-alcoholic drink anywhere, one tea cup. When I asked for a second cup, I was told it is not complimentary with the purchase. So, if we both would have wanted a second cup of tea, it would have been $20.00 for two cups of tea. HUH? $20.00 for tea? Seems very strange to me. Whenever I hear someone say that they don't like Indian Food, my first thought is that they obviously haven't eaten at India Gate. My husband and I have been coming here for years, and we have yet to have anything less than wonderful. From the moment we walk in, until we drag ourselves out, the experience is pleasant and fulfilling in every aspect. Every staff person we've ever encountered seems genuinely pleasant and polite. We never wait for a table for more than just a few minutes, and that's only when they're especially busy. Every request is taken into account and honored. Table location, food preparation, nothing seems too little or too big to handle the request. The restaurant itself is also inviting - clean, comfortable, not loud, plenty of space and tables and nice murals on the walls. Whenever we eat here, we're never disappointed and always think we need to have Indian food more often. read more
