I was led to my table by the hostess immediately, walking past a fountain at the entrance, and a pagoda which sells ghost money, wallets, and other status goods. The buffet has three different types of food available: Japanese sushi, miso, and Yakitori; a raw bar for Mongolian BBQ, in which a chef stir-fries your choices in front of you; and a mix of Chinese and Chinese-American dishes. Salad with iceberg lettuce and Jell-O? Not Chinese, but it works. I loved the hot and sour soup, and the chicken and mushrooms. The broccoli with bamboo was fresh as well. Reading some of these reviews, some people are expecting quite a lot for a Buffet. Zhangs is FINE. Most of the time the food is fresh enough (it's a Buffet people). They have many options some better than others. I would say I go once a month for lunch as it is close to work. My only bad experience has been on a Monday where it was not busy and some of the foods definitely had sat for a bit longer than you'd want. But again, it wasn't busy and can't expect them to just start tossing food. Went there today with my 12-year-old niece and 6-year-old daughter. First off, they charged my 12-year-old niece an adult price because she was taller than the height line on their wall. I found that kind of weird, but okay -- I still decided to stay. I went to use the bathroom to wash my hands, and the toilets were disgusting -- they did not look sanitized at all. I brought the issue up right away to one of the servers, who seemed to speak little English. She rudely told me to "speak to someone else." (First red flag.) For some reason, I still decided to stay... kids were hungry ‍. We got our food, and when I went to set a plate down at the table, my niece and daughter were still choosing from the buffet. Suddenly, my niece ran over to tell me that the same woman I had spoken to earlier had rudely yelled at my 6-year-old daughter to move, shooing her away as they were replacing food at the buffet. I went to ask what happened, and once again, she told me to speak with someone else. This time, I did. I explained the situation to another lady, who then walked over with me and spoke to the server in their language. They began yelling back and forth so loudly that everyone turned to look. I became uncomfortable and walked away -- the yelling went on for at least a minute. At that point, we really should've left, but I still stayed ‍. I will say, I give the food a 7/10. Everything was fresh, but my corn on the cob was extremely overcooked, and my niece's mussels were so filthy (as you can see in the picture) -- they still had the beard inside. I am not a buffet kind of person, and this experience reminded me why. The food was not good at all. It looked old, nothing was hot, nothing had any taste, or seasoning. Selections were mislabeled. We all ended up just making a salad. Can't mess up lettuce and cucumbers. The staff was in abundance and not sure why. They were not friendly or helpful. I asked 2 questions, and each time, I was answered with nothing more than a point of the finger. Flies were everywhere, and I was able to kill one while in the bathroom. I've been here a few times ,but this was probably my worst experience yet. It wasn't horrible, just the least "ok" experience. We got seated after a minute of standing around. The waitress wasn't very pleasant. Went up for food & there seemed to be less than I remember & had very few desserts, which is a big bummer for me. My boys love sushi but said theirs wasn't very good today. Their pizza was horrible, but then again, I am at a Chinese buffet. Lol They weren't filling up the empty trays very fast, they were taking their good 'ol time. I couldn't even get a donut cause my son took the last one & they never refilled them. Their General Tzo's was NOT good at all. Their fried rice & lomein were pretty good. Fried chicken- gross They had pizza egg rolls which weren't bad, but didn't have a strong flavor. I past this place all the time. We finally had a chance to go inside and try out some American Chinese buffet cuisine. Once you get past the oray of decor and toys that lay along what looks like a bar, it opens up to a dinning setting in which is quiet and quaint. The servers there are super respectful and friendly. The FOOD!!! So they have the most common American Chinese food dishes which look freshly made and ready to eat. I will say depending on what time you go either for lunch or dinner prices do vary. The food freshness depends on the specific time you decide to go. We went around dinner time and it seemed like the food was ready an freshly made. The turn around time to get something fresh out the kitchen seemed to be the longest wait. We waited for the clams they had with such flavor and color for over 30min. Just to wait for them to be gone and wait all over again. The sushi bar was decent but the sushi wasn't chilled, it was sort of room temperature and depending on your pallet for food in may sit good with your stomach or just might make you vomit. Overall, the experience was great and when we went the food was fresh and the pricing was decent. Well, maybe I am just easy to please. Or maybe I have low expectations for an $11.99 AYCE lunch buffet. Or maybe I have no class. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, haha. But my hubbs is a part-time meat eater, and he had a hankering for a gluttonous lunch on a random day we were unexpectedly together for lunch, so off we went. The booth was in a side room that wasn't immaculate nor in great shape; basically decor and furnishings that still function but have seen better days. It was comfortable and clean enough. The buffet itself was actually pretty clean, and I suppose that matters most. For weekday lunch, I was a bit surprised to see all rows of the buffet fully stocked. There was a cold bar with fruit and salad items, three hot bars, and a cold bar with dessert items, plus an ice cream freezer. There was also a sushi line, which we didn't eat, so I am not sure if it has an upcharge. The majority of dishes on the buffet here are meat dishes, probably more than 85%. If you are vegan, you'll be even more limited than that. The lo mein unfortunately was not vegetarian. But the fried rice was a vegetable fried rice. There was also a vegetarian egg foo young, buttered potatoes, green beans, cheese broccoli, vegetable spring rolls, hot and sour soup, cheese pizza, and breadsticks, plus the salad bar. I was disappointed there were no tofu nor beancurd dishes at all. But I was pleasantly surprised with the veggie food they did have actually being quite satisfying. Sure, not the most flavorful Chinese food I have ever had. But for $11.99, beggars can't be choosers. Everything seemed fresh to me. The salad bar didn't have much, but the iceberg lettuce was crisp and cold, the hard boiled eggs were fresh, and I actually really liked the french dressing. Plus all of the dressings were kept tidy, no co-mingling of drips. And I enjoyed the vegetable fried rice. It was simple, could use a bit more soy sauce or salt, but it had a decent amount of peas, carrots, and onions in it. The vegetable egg foo young wasn't bad. I liked the breadsticks more than I did the vegetable springroll. An unexpected star of the show was the dessert bar. I find dessert bars at buffets like this to usually be lackluster. But this one had a couple delicious little cakes that were spongy, creamy and fresh. Plus there was a yummy vanilla wafer pudding with whip that I also liked more abundantly than I should have. My husband ate a few piles of meats. He was pleased. Considering I essentially ate lettuce, rice, eggs, bread, and a couple little cakes, I would not come back here for dinner prices. But for the occasionally reasonably priced lunch, so far so good. What I did eat was satisfying, the servers kept our waters full and dishes cleared, and the $11.99 per person bill was fair. I have never had Chinese take out that was so completely tasteless. There was no seasonings or sauces to give any flavor. The egg roll was tiny, overcooked and again, flavorless. The crab ragoons we're large but filled with just plain cream cheese, there was no crab or scalliobns. Plus they charge you 50 cents extra for the sweet and sour sauce that is typically given to you with the ragoons. We were seated immediately, staff was fairly pleasant, I guess. The interior wasn't dirty. I wouldn't say it was sparkling clean either. I went with one other person at like 6pm on a thursday, it wasn't crowded and wasn't empty. Pretty quiet, really casual vibe. You just come to eat cheap food fast. I used to love doing this at Wegmans, but their hot foods area has been closed since covid. Considering Zhangs charges about $5.49/lb, I thought this would still be a good deal. I picked up the items and checked out. I was charged $10.60. This being the case, I would think i had almost 2 lbs of food. I came home and decided to weigh the food. It weighed 18 ounces! That's right, well under the 36 ounces I was charged for. Food quality: The quality of the food here is overall between a "pretty bad" and a "didn't say I wouldn't eat it", whether it be the fried rice or the General Tso's chicken. I hate giving 3-star reviews! ugh! But I have to here. I appreciate the fact that they are still open for buffet. They are very COVID-cautious about it. Sneeze guards, gloves, sanitizer...all that. When I went, the food was fresh. The place was quiet...the food just wasn't great. I ate a lot of different things, but the verdict was still the same. There was no particular item that made me want more of it. I even had Mongolian BBQ and that wasn't great. Being a Yelper has probably made be snobbish about some foods, but I see that some others feel the same way. It's not that they put quantity over quality. Like I mentioned, the food was fresh (except for the raw shellfish-stay far away from that), but there just wasn't anything great. Let's face it: Chinese Buffets will never be gourmet quality. But, every once in a while, you get that urge. I do have to say that I was very satisfied with my visit. The variety was huge. Everything I had was hot. And the trays were kept full. There was nothing that I tried that would make me say yuck. Things that didn't appeal to me was because of what they were, not any fault of the restaurant, so they'd never end up on my plate. I'm not a regular customer, so I can't speak for consistency. It's been awhile since I ate at an Asian buffet. I decided to try Zhang's since it's the closest one to the house I'm currently staying at. Although their sign says they open at 10:30 a.m., they were already open when I happened to stop by a few minutes early. I came back about 45 minutes later, hoping they'd have a better sushi selection but didn't see much more (there were only five choices). They do have a decent variety of other foods. I liked they had spumoni for one of their ice cream flavors. I didn't receive any refills of water until I asked for that. It was quiet in there, even during lunch hour. It's unlikely I'll go back.
