This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the area. The food was affordable and very appetizing. The free starter bread/cracker they bring to your table is unique, but their naan is amazing and cheap. They give you a choice on how spicy you would like your food(a 0-10 scale with 10 being extreme), and I feel as if they hit my choice perfectly. I recommend the chicken tikka masala, as it was delicious. The facility was very clean, and the staff was very helpful in choosing a tasty selection if you are unsure what you are ordering. I have raised this from a 4 to a 5 due to Angela!...being stuck here she has gotten to know me!...always bright and inviting!...those of you who only order the tiki Masala chicken are missing out!!...happens to be one of my least favorites! Thanks to Yelp, we found this place while driving back from Atlanta. Saved us from the Ross Clark Circle vortex of fast food. The garlic naan and Paneer Masala appetizer was legit and let us know we were in for a treat. Also ordered mutter paneer, palak paneer, and chicken Jalfrezi curry. All were fantastic. Dwayne was great with his recommendations and knowledge of the menu. Will stop here any time I'm traveling through Dothan or even if I get remotely close! read more

The Taj restaurant is a great place for lunch! I have been there numerous times and have never been disappointed. I think this may be my new favorite restaurant in the area! We had the most helpful server who brought samples of the different sauces to try before we ordered. Taj is a really great place, I go at least twice a month. I get the Lamb Malai Methi and it is wonderful! The only con is that they are not always consistent with the food. It's never bad, just sometimes it's wonderful and others times it's just good. Highly recommend if you want something good and different in Dothan! read more

Was in town working so decided to try this place for lunch.. tried their lunch special for the day. Got "chicken tikka masala" with 7 on hotness.. got a picnic plate with a side of stale basmati rice (probably from night before), half a naan bread and chicken tikka masala. The sauce for the CTM was flavorful but the spice profile was inconsistent throughout the meal. Seemed like the chef just sprinkled extra cayenne on top to kick it up from mild to medium. In the evening, I was craving some more Indian food so decided to try this place again. Went in for dinner and ordered Lamb Seekh Kabab. On the description they are supposed to be home made. Ordered a side order of plain naan. The meal was served on a sizzling platter however they there was no Seekh kabab on my platter. The meat looked like a over processed sausage of some sort, cut up in slices and hidden inside which seemed to me maybe 2 heads of sliced onions with sprinkles of bell pepper. Seemed as if I was having sizzling onions garnished with cut up hotdogs and a wedge of lemon. Had a side of rice and tikka masala gravy (probably same one from lunch) . We had dinner at Taj and it was amazing! I was a little concerned when we pulled up outside, but I'm so glad we gave it a chance. The decor inside is very nice and relaxing. The food was delicious! My husband had the curry with the creamy sauce and I had the chicken on the bone skillet. It was so much food. The best part of our visit was our waiter Ravi. He was so nice and we had such a wonderful time learning about his country and culture. If you are in Dothan this should be your first stop for delicious food. read more

Worst falafel wrap ever I had. They should change their menu or let people know about this scam. Menu said it's with chickpea but it didn't come with it instead Indian pakora in it. They had lunch buffet. Punjabi kadi pakora was way too sour....the kind of sour that tingles your teeth! Dal fry was way too sweet, salt and other species were completely missing. Since nothing was eatable, we ordered eggplant bharta since the reviews stated that was good here.......when we didn't receive it after few minutes asked our server about it and he said that he totally forgot about it and would place it now..................we received it......it really didn't look anything like eggplant bharta.....after confirming it that it was eggplant bharta....being skeptical, we served ourselves a spoonful......it was so sour and raw.......we returned it.....at this point I was really really hungry and I thought I would eat some desert only to find it empty, I asked the staff whether they would refill it, he replied by saying since the buffet closes in 10 minutes, he is not gonna do that. While paying our check, we stated that they didn't refill the desert, the African American lady upfront told us that they serve the deserts that was made last week, since they ran out he didn't refill......I was stunned to hear that they serve week old stuff on buffet!!! Then it got me thinking, what kind of place are unable to sell deserts for a week!!! Thinking back, that explains why the food tasted stale...........and they charged 15$ per person for this crap!! Please stay away from this week old stuff place.....I'm an Indian and I know what Indian food taste like and when it's spoiled.....just hoping that we don't get sick......of the little we ate there. read more

Worst food and worst Receptionist who did server and Manager things also. We have been to this restaurant on 6/28/2017 while returning from a trip. They served Chicken Tikka Masala 1st and Kadai Chicken 2nd.Both were prepared with same recipe. When enquired with available guy, he responded in a arrogant manner as if we don't any tastes. In fact the onions used were rotten in kadai masala and curry and was smelled badly. Infact there were no feedback forms not available. Never ever go to this restaurant. They just care about money and don't care health of the customers. Another biggest thing was the arrogant guy giving vague and irresponsible answers. When inquired about owners contact number he did not gave us and said that he would provide feedback to his owner which is not a written statement. read more

Went for the new lunch buffet. Looked ok and tasted ok but was cold. Steam table was not working. I went for another piece of chicken and almost all of the pans had been removed and all the serving utensils had been placed in one large hotel pan. They brought all pans back and got me another serving spoon. Still cold but tasted all right and I haven't been sick yet. They then removed all pans and two guys were on floor working on steam table. A bit of a hidden gem in Dothan. Some of the best food in town, and the lunch specials are moderately priced.

This is the only place that I eat when I am in Dothan and that is sometimes 3 nights in a row like it was on my last trip to the area. The food is extremely fresh and consistent, I have been eating here over the last couple of years and it has always been spot on. On my last trip through, I had the pleasure of being seated in Michael's area. He was extremely pleasant and gave me plenty of time to look over the menu. After I told him what dishes I had already eaten, he asked if he could make some suggestions for me if I wanted to try something new. I let him know that I would be eating at Taj for three nights and that I would like recommendations for each night. He suggested the Methi chicken curry, chicken mango curry, and the butter chicken for a nice variety since each dish is made up of a different base. Fabulous suggestions! I'm a bird-aholic so all chicken dishes was fine with me. Many thanks to Michael for opening my eyes up to some of the other dishes that I might not have tried before. I am an adventurous eater, but when you have someone like Michael actually explain what each dish tastes like, then it made it very easy to make up my mind. I love Taj, I will always eat here anytime I am in Dothan, and I highly recommend you spend some time with Michael going over the menu....he won't steer you wrong for sure. read more

Surprisingly satisfying. Whooda thunk you could find a rich goat curry with saffron rice and garlic naan in the middle of an endless expanse of mediocre chain retail that Dothan, AL seems to represent. One minor quibble that may have saved the day for me: If you really do like heat, shoot for 8 to 10 on their spiciness scale. As it turns out, if I had opted for higher than I did, the rest of the trip home would have been very unpleasant. Awesome Hindi Pop playing in the background, reasonable service all around. So we wanted to go to taj for lunch, my favorite place in town..... Usually the service is good and the food is great. But not this time, after waiting 15 mins after being seated, I asked the hostess for menus and they pointed in the direction of them. So I pick up three and start back to my table, and the hostess kindly takes the menus and walks with me. She gets our drink order then we wait another 9 mins for our drinks. I ask if we can have the complimentary crisp bread they serve and she says yes, but takes our orders at this time 20 mins go by and our server finally comes to the table and ask if we're ready to order. I let him know we already did. All the meantime 3 tables that came in after us had been catered to and were almost finished. Finally 10 mins later we got our food. Never did our server return to ask how was everything. I went to the host and asked for to go boxes, paid the bill and left. I have always had good food here, but the staff leaves a lot to be desired. Two weeks ago we dined here with some friends, and had to talk the hostess into letting us wait at the bar until the rest of our party arrived. It was like she'd never heard of that before. Then, while sitting at the bar, the bartender was rude and acted as if we were in his way. I guess he needed the entire bar to make drinks. Not sure why, because he gave me the wrong wine twice, and two of our friends had to send their drinks back. On a positive note, the food was excellent. The next weekend, we went with another couple, thinking maybe the staff just had a bad night. Boy, was I wrong!!! We called at 6:15 to request a reservation for 4 in the lounge at 7:30. The hostess said it was pretty full already, but by the time we arrived, our table would be available. We walked in, were shown to our table, and were joined by the rest of our party, who were waiting at the bar. The waiter started to take our order for drinks, when the waiter at the next table (the same rude bartender from the week before) looked over and informed our waiter that we were sitting at a table that was being held for someone else, then proceeded to argue with him about it. Our flustered waiter ran to the front, and returned with the hostess who told us we were sitting at another person's table, who'd just arrived. We were asked to get up and go back to wait until someone else got up. We left, and will not be back. I'm not one to send things back or complain, but we were treated so very rudely. There are so many other places with excellent customer service that I'd rather give my money to. read more

Tried Taj last week and had to come back for more! Biryani, palak paneer, curries, all excellent and just as good as Indian food gets. I was impressed by the high quality of the food as well as the fact that spice level "0" was super tasty but not spicy. Reasonable price and very nice staff complete the picture. Just left Taj with my party of 4. We won't ever be back. The young man at the front desk was clueless as to what was happening around him when we (half of our party) arrived. We asked to sit at the bar and wait for the table they said wasn't ready. We were told we could not sit at the bar due to it being so full. When they found out we actually wanted to order drinks, we were escorted to an EMPTY bar. The other half of our party called an hour in advance and requested a reservation in the lounge. Upon arrival, they were asked if they made a reservation, and were seated and we joined them. Two minutes later we were asked to get up from our table because it had been reserved for someone else. A frequent flyer, no doubt. We have frequented Taj many times, even when it was located in downtown Dothan. The food is delicious, don't get me wrong. But customer service, or extreme lack thereof, will really ruin your appetite. read more

We heard from several friends that Taj was a gem, so we decided to try it for dinner. My husband doesn't really love spicy food, and we haven't eaten many Indian dishes before, but the recommendations we received made us curious to experience Taj for ourselves. The food was amazing, but the service was lacking. The hostess and waitress didn't really seem to know what was going on. Neither were very personable or nice. A man that I assume was the manager was very helpful with recommending dishes for us to try, but that was really the only point where I would say our service was good. We were on the back patio, and before we were even finished with our meal, our waitress put our check on the table and told us we could pay up front. We had intended to order dessert and drinks and continue watching a football game that was on outside, but we left and went to TGIF for that bc it seemed like we were already being rushed out. However, it wasn't busy at all. We will be back, because like I said, the food was awesome. I do hope that the service matches the quality of food, next time. read more
