Rasham and Mia were absolutely phenomenal hosts! We had a fun conversation with them both, learned a lot, had great food and a wonderful time. Taipo is a little speakeasy restaurant behind a hidden entrance and it's a fun vibe, especially for date night. We stopped in one evening and Rasham was bartending while Mia was shadowing on her first day but her actions let us know she's an industry pro - which she was. They both gave great recommendations for food and drinks. We got Nepali Reaper Momos, Sichuan momos, chicken chow mein, mango habanero tofu, an old fashion and a strawberry margarita. Everything was flavorful, but my favorites were the Nepali-style fries, the sichuan momos, and the chicken chow mein. The reaper momos were good but they were pretty spicy (coming from people who ordered most of the spicy things on the menu haha). The interior was ornate and beautiful but again, the service is what couldn't be beat. Rasham went above and beyond to provide an experience for us showering us with bubbles for a nice photo and adding some flare and glitter to my strawberry margarita. The interior is impressive, with a bar-forward design that feels elevated compared to the outdoor service area. So freaking cute!!!! We came here for a drink while waiting for our table at a nearby restaurant. I love that it was a speakeasy and you could just walk right in! This was a complete delight. It was empty on a Saturday at 7:30 but we loved it more for the intimate experience we received. Staff was happy to be there, proud to have their work photographed, and ready to help another patron take videos with the bubbles. I came here as a birthday splurge for my mother and came away with her feeling like she had experienced something truly special. The drinks were not cheap but you were certainly getting your money's worth with taste and experience. Each cocktail we ordered seemed better than the last somehow. I went to Taipo after dark, the back opens up at five and from 5 to 7 they have a happy hour with half-price drinks and food. My brother and I went after dinner so later around nine. We each had two drinks and then my brother decided you have to have one more we were served by Javier, the coolest bartender ever. He was so entertaining and had such skill. It was really amazing to watch him. As ever it's super cool back there the front looks like it's just a little snack shack but once you enter the black and gold doors, you become part of the back that's more like a alter to alcohol and really good food. I believe an event was being hosted so not their fault but the music was stopped in the speakeasy and really took away from the vibes/ambiance. It felt pretty overstimulating. 1. We ordered some steamed momos and since there was only 6 and 5 of us, we ate them fairly quick. The server brought in the sauce meant for the steamed momos AFTER we ate it 2. We were a party of 5 and got charged an automatic gratuity (meant for party of 6 or larger). The drinks were great! Happy hour was a good deal and I really enjoyed the iced masala chai. My only real experience with Nepalese momos, are a couple of places I have been to in Irving. My friend and I were looking for dumplings in Arlington, and this place has excellent reviews. We just ordered food at the counter, and did not go to the backroom for table service and cocktails. The front is very basic. Counter service, self serve drink fridge, and disposable containers. I ordered the pan fried pork momos in Szechuan sauce. It was a bright red sauce with some sauteed veg. I was expecting some heat, as is standard with szechwan cuisine. I was disappointed. The sauce was red, there were sauteed veggies, and it was on the oily side. However, it had NO heat. It didn't really even have much flavor. The dumplings themselves were pretty tasty, but the sauce was bland. I will go out of my way and head to Cafemandu in Irving. They are also open late. read more
