On my last trip to Paris, I was able to hit a lot of the food spots I wanted to. But I lamented not being able to try some French-Vietnamese pho. Made it a point to find a good place in Paris to come to for some pho and that's how I ended up at Song Heng. The menu is super straightforward. As in, there's literally only two items on the menu. The options are either pho or bun bo hue. Obviously I picked the pho, which was a combination bowl. Since the price difference was €1, I also went with the large. Kinda surprised to find thick rice noodles here, as I think I have only had that once before. But they were good, didn't stick together and held the flavor of the broth well. The meat quality was definitely better than what I would usually find back home in the U.S. Pretty quality chunks of meat. And the broth was quite exquisite. I was actually surprised that drinking the soup didn't make me feel super bloated...makes you wonder how much MSG they use back home! Staff here were really friendly. They keep a very efficient churn on the place since it is quite small. And the guy running the counter spoke French, English, and Chinese (at least, that's what I recall hearing). Definitely want to try some other spots when I come back to Paris, but happy to note that my pick was the right one! read more

Came here after reading great reviews and recommendations from friends. If you like pho on the sweeter side, you'll like it here. If you prefer more meaty-flavor like we do, you won't like this. The meat also was just ok. Also, the vegetable plate only comes with mint as the greens. No culantro, basil, and even the green onion and cilantro in the bowl was sparse. Be prepared to sit with others at the same table and get friendly. There are literally 3 6-person tables and 1 4-person table. Go to Pho Banh Cuon 14 instead - our fave in the city. read more

Tbh originally I had low expectations for a pho place in Paris as I grew up in NYC and have eaten at so many restaurants that serve pho. But I have to agree with the reviewers that say this is one of the best pho restaurants I have ever tried. The soup was so flavorful yet light, usually I feel like pho noodles are often heavy feeling and oily. Also the beef balls were chewy and you could tell it was made in house. I feel like more people should know about this hidden gem! Maybe I should have trusted my gut because the ones who were hyping it up and saying this was the BEST pho they have ever had weren't Vietnamese at all. Whilst studying abroad in Paris, my friend introduced me to this hole in the wall. Despite there being some drawbacks (limited menu - only two food items, cramped seating, wait time, lack of decor and finesse), this place earned 5 stars from me because they served consistently delicious pho to my poor little homesick, freezing from Paris rain and lack of California sun, Asian-food craving soul. The tai was always tender and fresh. The broth itself was flavorful and piping hot. They also served hot tea! With real leaves! Never a fan of coffee, and always an avid tea drinker, I had difficulties finding places that served actual tea rather than using a tea bag or serving me a can of "iced tea". Imagine my great pleasure when I poured myself a cup of tea, and some leaf fragments came pouring out. Also, they do serve chili peppers - which also made me happy as it was difficult to find truly spicy cuisine anywhere in Europe.I never did try the Bo Bun, though it appeared quite popular, as observed by the others in the restaurant. Compared to other Parisian Asian eateries, the prices were fair - about 8 euros for a large bowl of pho with steak, meatballs and toppings. After discovering this place, I quickly became a regular for whenever the cravings hit me, despite it taking 45 minutes to get there via metro..yeah, it was that good. Like most places in Paris, the eating area is crowded and small. You will be seated next to strangers to accommodate for the long line that accrues during popular mealtimes. Besides the lengthy line, the exterior looks rather unassuming but it is warm and cozy inside. If ever I return to roam the streets of Paris, I will most definitely return here. In fact, I have already told several of my friends who live in the area to check this place out. I can still taste the broth from my pho at this place, months later. My husband and I had spent 75% of our Europe trip looking for a hot, comforting bowl of pho after long flights and train rides. It took our fourth country, a lot of yelping, and speed walking, but we made it here at 3pm one brisk day in Paris, happy and starving. I loved that this place is so busy that it can offer just two dishes - pho and bo bun. The best part is that you really can't mess up your order regardless of what language you speak or read when there's only two items on the menu. The shop is super tiny with only enough seats for about 10-12 people (there was a steady stream of people for take out) and it took a few winding streets through a small Asian/Chinese neighborhood before we arrived at our destination. Prices were pretty reasonable but to be honest - we just didn't care anymore once we realized we had stumbled on real pho. Seating is communal so be aware. We sat next to very nice French gentleman who was interested enough to ask how we managed to find the place (score for finding hidden gems in the city!) and allowed us to chat him up on the finer delights of pho and bo bun. As I mentioned, this place is crazy small and difficult to find. Let's add crazy limited hours as well. We couldn't understand how a shop with a Parisian address could afford to be open only a few days a week and only for 5 hours. TOTALLY GET IT. They are good enough that we witnessed a couple being turned away at 3:45 pm. The shop closes at 4 pm. HOLY. MOLY. That was legit crazy. We just looked at each other and realized how lucky we were. We have our go to pho place at home but this was right up there and we were so glad to find it and in the nick of time. To be fair, I have a high standard for pho. I've tried and had amazing bowls of pho in NYC, LA, Vegas, and most definitely Vietnam. The pho here was really just ok. Why, you ask? Broth: The flavor was amazing. This was the highlight and kudos to them, because the broth is the most important part of pho. It was clean and flavorful. I remember thinking: wow! Beef: there were different cuts. Beef round, brisket, and beef balls. The brisket was ok, but it was just... Ok. It didn't taste as if there was any seasoning and flavor to it. More like it was just boiled in plain water. The beef round was too chewy and cut too thick. If it was just a slight thinner, it would improve it overall. Beef balls were good. Since it's probably packaged, hard to mess that up. Noodles: I've had pho with the thicker cut rice noodles, like how they served it here, and the thinner rice noodle. Both were amazing. Somehow, the noodles here were a miss. It soaked up the broth too quickly and was a bit chewy. I left the bowl with mostly the noodles and beef (minus the beef balls), and drank what was left of the broth. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. read more

Couple of days in Le Paris and you'll be like us...yearning for a bowl of PHO! Friend recommended us to try this place and sure glad we did. After the museum, we hopped into an Uber and landed in this little alley(was it Chinatown?!? I am not sure). Wait was about 20min so wasn't not too bad. It's really a small joint so naturally you have to wait. Just hover over people and pray they slurp faster so you can take their seats. The servers are friendly and food came out fairly fast. We ordered three bowl of the large pho and a bowl of dry vermicelli. Perfect, on a cold day. Beef was fresh and their fish sauce, very tasty and authentic. Prices are low compared to the cafes. I have dined here on two occaisions for Bo-Bun, and received the same result. Complete satisfaction. The noodles are properly cooked, and the proportion of peanuts, greens, veggies, and meat is sensible and pleasing. For those who enjoy a little spice, the sriracha is never far of reach. It was late (for lunch) and we were hungry and wanted something asian. Found this place on yelp and thought we'd give it a try. Got there and there was a long line. The place is tiny. You'll most likely be sharing your table with others. I really didn't want to line up because I was hungry but my husband insisted. Fine. The pho was delicious and the broth has depth, the noodles have a chewiness to them that I've never had in any other pho place in the world and you get a lot of meat!
