After doing some research around the area, I'm so glad I tried out this place. A straight forward restaurant name with Banh Mi, the sandwiches are just as straight forward and delicious. I ordered the Porc Caramel and not only was the bread crispy and a perfect crunch, the sliced up carrots were some of the best I've ever had on a banh mi itself. Also, I like to say I have a good spice tolerance, but Banh Mi's jalapeños are such a great spicy kick to add to this banh mi. I loved this place so much, I went here twice; once upon exploring Paris and then once again before I left France because I loved how delicious this banh mi was. I must also add I was able to meet the owner and the employees and they are so friendly and so nice and so welcoming. I felt like I was in their home and they were serving me my favorite banh mi as if I had gone there for years. If I had more time, I'd definitely explore more of the Vietnamese cuisine in Paris but a banh mi was a must at the very least! This shop was one of the more well reviewed in the area so made a trip on one of our last few days in Paris. It's VERY small so expect to take our to go or expect a squeeze. My friend and I ended up getting a pâte banh mi and a chicken plate to share. Neither was anything super special - the sandwich didn't have enough pâte spread nor did it have any of the pickled veggies that I usually enjoy - but both were tasty enough! I had to try Banh mi In Paris, due to the history between Vietnam and France and also this was a French inspired dish. Also I grew up eating Vietnamese food too. My conclusion: WAY Better than what I've had in NYC, but not nearly as good as what I've had in Houston, TX. We arrived in Paris just in time for the spot to open at 5:30 but the lights were off and door was locked. All the signs were in French but on a whim my husband rang the "service" door bell and an energetic woman came bouncing up from downstairs. She thought it was hilarious that we wanted to eat now since parisians eat much later. They were of course out of the pork so my husband got the beef and I got the chicken. We weren't really anticipating going to a Banh Mi place in Paris, but when we thought about it, Vietnamese food has a distinct French influence so maybe this would be a kick ass sandwich. We actually tried to drop in one night and they were out of the good stuff, so we couldn't get their best sandwich, the pork. However, we opted for a different meat (I believe it was what you call the "special" meat in Vietnamese sandwiches). The owner hand makes the sandwiches in what could only be described as a makeshift store. It's not really a great place to sit down and eat. We grabbed ours and went and it was a very good sandwich except it was a little too spicy for me but of course my lady LOVES spicy so she really enjoyed it. One thing for me about Banh Mi is that they tend to use french bread that isn't soft (ie either more towards stale or just drier). This usually destroys the roof of my mouth if I'm not careful, but this one was short of that, but not soft. It is quite a big sandwich, plenty for two people who aren't famished. The exterior has no name, inside only offers two seats, and my hubby felt it was his best meal in Paris. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. For the longest time, I was going to Banh Mi at least every other week and telling anyone I could how it's the best banh-mi sandwich out there. I never minded the wait, because I would simply chit chat with the proprietress behind the counter about life, culture, and - above all - cooking while waiting for my sandwich to be crafted to protection. Other people complained about the slow, one-person operation, but I actually enjoyed the opportunity to talk to one of the few lady entrepreneurs of the neighborhood. Being entrepreneurial myself, I spent a couple of years working seven days a week building up my own thing, and unfortunately was not able to get to Banh Mi. Friends had picked up orders for me and I figured they weren't as good because they weren't ordered specifically by me, in person. This was the only place that I wanted to visit while on my short visit to Paris for the very first time and they did not disappoint at all! My girlfriend ordered the beef Banh Mi (they ran out of the pork belly, the most popular) and I had the special Banh Mi (cold cut w/pork floss). The baguette had a nice crispy crunch and soft on the inside. The saltiness of the pork and sauce was off set by the fresh parsley, cucumber, and picketed carrots (no pickled daikon) with a hint of chili peppers. I knew I had to try Vietnamese food during my weeklong trip to Paris, but I had no idea that it would end up being my favorite meal. Combining superior crunchiness AND chewiness of a true French baguette, tender pork belly that's saucy enough to melt into the bread, and a generous hand when it comes to the vinegar on the carrots and chili sauce (not Sriracha, more depth and heat). The beef comes in a distant second, while the special (pork sung+ch la, no roast pork or pate) is somewhat forgettable.
