I remembered this shop was here from a while back, as its hidden way back of the centre. Whilst the jacket was checked in I had time for a coffee & half an hour later my jacket was ready for collection. Definitely great service and couldn't believe how cheap it cost, would recommend this shop to anyone no matter how small the job.

When I went in to collect my dress not only was the zip on my blush dress white but it was catching on the lining. The chap took the dress through the back I'm not sure what he done to the dress but there was the sound of an aerosol. I was told this was unacceptable condition to be given back to me and that I could come back and collect it once the zip had been refitted the next day. Concerned the WD40 had been sprayed on my dress I left the centre feeling very concerned over the state my dress would be returned to me. So the next day I went to collect my dress to find that the zipper was still white, that it wasn't concealed as it should be an that the white zip material was visible on the blush coloured dress, which instantly made the dress look cheap and nasty. and that the zip had not been sewn the whole way down, there was an open gap at the bottom of the zip. The zip had also been had stitched on the outside of the dress leaving ugly visible stiches. I then went to pay for the repair which so that I could get the dress back to be taken elsewhere to be surprisingly told that the cost of the repair had gone up from £9 to £15. If anything the price should have gone down for the state of the repair and for the inconvenience of it not being in a returnable state when I first went to collect it.

Since it was a bridesmaid dress, I was pretty nervous about the hands I'd trust to make the changes. While I was there, I had another floor length dress I wanted to have a small alteration made to so I popped along with both. Firstly, this place is BUSY... so try to avoid any peak times to pop in. It was a bit chaotic - they got me to try on the bridesmaid dress, pinned it to size and then took the instructions for my other dress (without trying on which I thought was strange). After quoting me a figure for them both - it was on the pricier side - I paid in cash (they don't take cards) and said to come back in a week. On my return a week later, the dress wasn't ready. So I went back the next day, where the bridesmaid dress was done (HUZZAH), but my other one hadn't even been touched and I needed it for the next night so it was too late. Although I did get a refund, I'm not sure why they gave me a dress back which clearly hadn't been altered. To their credit, the slightly complex changes to the dress they did alter were done perfectly and my dress looked great on the big day. I'm just not sure with all the hassle that I'd choose to go back again.

I would give this no stars if possible. I got a bridesmaids dress altered here. I originally wanted…read morethe dress taking up, but the seamstress recommended they take it in as well. When I tried it on before the wedding the dress was completely unwearable, the leg split was in the middle of the dress revealing far too much and the strap was in the centre of the dress, which dug into my neck. The seam was unfinished and began to unravel immediately. I had to order a new dress and pay for next day delivery to have something to wear for the wedding. They also refused to give me a refund for the alteration or pay for the new dress. I would not recommend this place for any alterations, the whole experience suggests they don't know what they're doing.

Said garment thought it fun to fit me everywhere but the waist, but dangled a ass fitting carrot (maybe not the best choice of words) in front of me by having a good inch, inch and a half to play with (again with the word choice) at the back seam. To this place I ventured with a recommendation from the most glamourous Lottie Lou (of Decourcys fame) that they had an hour service. Time was certainly of the essence so I popped in, dropped off the trous and relocated to the nearest wife toting coffee shop to continue my daily chores. When the old aye phone tinkled a mere 45mins later, I never at once expected it to be a text from these guys informing me that the work had been completed and was ready for my imminent pick up. Job done apparently. Popped back. Picked up the pants. All good in the hood/waist. In short then. These guys promised a service and they delivered. Sold. I will be using you again.

After being cancelled last June - our wedding went ahead on the 3rd July this year at Bowfield Hotel. As we had been in lockdown I was really panicking I would not get my dress altered in time - I wanted to add burgundy lace motifs to back of my dress and along the train. When I contacted Carol she was so friendly and said she would fix my dress in time for my wedding which I was absolutely delighted about. When I met her she immediately put me at my ease and her professionalism was second to none. She also added in bust cups, and took it in at the sides. I also found her to be one of the nicest and genuine people I have met. Not only did she give me my dress of my dreams she also made some alterations to my new husband's suit for which we are very grateful for. I cannot thank her enough and would say if you need any alterations to your wedding dress do not go anywhere else as Carol and Alter Girls is the only place to give you the dress of your dreams. I have scarring on my back which I am very self conscious about, and the dress I got was strapless, so she worked her magic to add fabrice to the back, chest and sleeves, and even managed to match the lace already on the dress. She made sure each piece of lace was attached to exactly cover any prominent scarring and didn't finish until I was completely happy. I felt flawless on my wedding day thanks to the hard work and attention from the staff here. She even gave me recommendations on other aspect of my outfit when I was worried about my shape which helped dramatically. Cannot recommend them enough! The studio is bright and airy and very clean, although it's a wee bit of a maze to get there within the building. They are cash only though so when it comes to paying make sure you bring money with you.

I was really happy with the work that the Nans did (there are 3 'nans' who work in the shop), and mightily pleased with the prices too. The coat lining was pretty badly ripped under the arms, and was repaired nicely, although of course it ripped again in a different place as soon as I reached for my bag! Basically, I think I need to face up to the fact that I've got a bit too big for my lovely coat. But at least the repair will let me get a wee bit more wear out of it before I say bye bye. The dress was altered perfectly, and I'm really happy with the fit. The costs were £10 for the lining repair, which is very reasonable given the skill required to do this. I was quoted £25 from a nearby repair shop! Which just goes to show it's worth checking prices, and you know that Nan's won't rip you off. The alteration to the dress only cost £4! It was a simple piece of work, which I probably could have done myself, but it would have taken me ages and I wouldn't have been able to do it as neatly as the nans, so for £4 it is definitely worth it. They also do very complex work such as wedding dresses, so the Head nan told me. The work was also done very quickly and Head nan even said she could have the dress ready the next day if I'd wanted it for the weekend. I'll be taking all my future repairs/alterations to Nan's without a second thought.

Admitted they did a terrible job, but shouted at me when I asked for a refund. It's not a huge place but it's amazing the selection of yarn they manage to pack in. It's not full of the expensive Alpaca and cashmere blends you might find in John Lewis but it does house a staggering range of colours and textures and all at a decent price. I first discovered the place when looking for yarn to use at a Yelp arm knitting get-together organised by Lucy B. I hadn't been able to find anything I liked elsewhere but there was a great choice at Supasew. I ended up choosing a felty blue and white yarn with a leopard print. I knitted up wonderfully and was so soft and snuggly! I was also tempted into buying a gorgeous random yarn that ended up becoming a lovely hat for my friend. My most recent trip was to buy some yarn for Christmas knitting projects, I knew exactly what I wanted and was pleased that they not only had what I needed but that there were different options to choose from. A fluffy white yarn and a sparkly red are now mine and will soon be transformed into lovely Christmas themed bits and bobs. I was running in and out tonight but I spotted about 10 other yarns I want to go back and have a look at. As well as yarns the shop also stocks a good variety of knitting needles, buttons, ribbons and other haberdashery bit and bobs to help you finish your project. So if you're looking to do some knitting and crochet and don't want to break the bank then head down to Supasew soon!

Hidden away on Union Street, it isn't the easiest of places to find, but it has a fantastic reputation, and the work they've done for me has always been to a great standard and a reasonable price. In terms of time they are pretty quick, and I think you can pay a little extra if you want it same day (not sure on this though!). I usually get trousers and jeans taken up, but I have had some significant alterations done to some expensive suits and they have done really good work on them. Again, I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think they might be cash only - the cost is usually under £10, so it isn't a huge deal. There are always sweeties at the till, which is a huge bonus!
