I am reviewing a laundrette. Has the world gone mad? No, but my washing machine has. Flashing lights, strange humming noises and a complete unwillingness to actually wash my clothes left me scratching my head and wondering where I was going to go wash my clothes.
I had a quick look through my phone book and was trying to figure out who I was going to inconvenience with my smelly underwear when all of a sudden, I had a flash of inspiration to turn to Yelp and search for a local laundrette.
It turns out this cracking wee place is only a 5 minute walk from my flat so I decided to give it a whirl. Having never even stepped into a laundrette before I was initially puzzled about what to do. Without even opening my mouth a kind lady caught on that I looked a tad puzzled and helped me get started.
It was all rather simple really. She swapped my £10 note for change, stuck £3.50 in the washing machine and took 50p for some washing up powder. I was informed it would be a 30 minute wash and so I left the machine to do its business as I went for a stroll around Finnieston.
Half an hour flew by and I went to pick up my now cleaned washing. They also have several large to tumble dryers, but I was feeling cheap and decided to dry my clothes at home.
The final test was the "sniff test" after my clothes dried. Indeed they smell fresh and clean, but perhaps next time I shall take my own personal washing powder.
The place itself is pretty cool looking and had a retro vibe (can a laundrette have a vibe? who know). They had loads of gig listing and posters on the wall which I like anyway. Unfortunately there were only a few seats, so if its busy you will probably have to wait elsewhere, which is a shame.
Anyway, these guys were total lifesavers and I'm glad I have now learnt how to use one of these places. It really was a piece of cake!
P.s I also learnt that they have mega huge washing machines, great for washing duvets etc. Probably worth doing at some point. read more
