Wednesday special raspberry rolls and large glazed rings
    Kristen C.

Some of the best doughnuts I've ever had! Affordable, delicious, nice selection and super friendly staff! Few places can pull off an amazing plain glaze...this is one of them! Ordered the Wednesday special that were a raspberry glazed..excellent! Also ordered a few large glazed rings and one double chocolate. Chocolate frosting was the best I've had on a doughnut! This place is the king of doughnuts in central IL in my book!

We said no, and she told us to sit, saying she wondered why we were "just standing there." While ordering, she was impatient, didn't make eye contact, and gave off a rude demeanor the entire time. When paying, she was holding on to the tablet which had a 20% tip pre-selected, we changed it to $1 due to the poor service. As we were leaving, she came outside, yelled for us to never come back, and flipped us off. We were polite the whole time, so this was shocking and uncalled for. Terrible customer service. Clearly caters to regulars, not new customers.

My girlfriend and I were wanting breakfast and I was asking around what sounded and looked good. She suggested Busy Corner and I had thought she meant Cobbler Corner. Nope, there is a Busy Corner and a Cobbler Corner in Pekin. We showed up around 9am and it was still busy with the breakfast crowd. I guess this is why it's called Busy Corner. We parked in what appears to be a closed business' parking lot next door and headed in. Upon entering, I was shocked at how open the place is. With it being so busy, I didn't feel it was appropriate to take a photo from the entrance but trust me when I say that the dining floor is a square room with nothing but tables and chairs. A hostess (or something) came out from the back and nodded at an empty table for us to sit at. We grabbed the seat along the right wall and were given menus. Emily gave me a rundown of what she knew on the menu and her experiences here. She ordered her usual John Wayne breakfast skillet thing. I noticed a Bacon Waffle on the menu and debated on if it was a waffle that came with bacon or a waffle with bacon in it. Our waitress cleared the air on what it was when it came time to order. Can you guess what I ordered? BACON WAFFLE! It's a waffle with bacon in it. What a fun novelty. It took a little while for the food to come out due to how busy it was. Once it came out, I was impressed with how well the waffle looked with bacon in it. Emily's meal that the Duke loves looked just as good. I grabbed the syrup and poured a ton of syrup on both sides. I dug in and have to say this novelty of a meal is just that. I'm no food snob or professional but after a few bites, I knew the type of bacon they used didn't mesh with the waffle mix at all. I believe it was a hickory-type bacon used and it didn't go well at all with the generic waffle mix. Despite that, it wasn't bad at all. I put the whole thing down and each bite was just a confusing taste of bacon and waffle that tasted separately with each bite. Due to some recent food allergies, I had to decline the butter that came on the waffle. Maybe that would help bind the flavors together? While the flavor was odd, the portion size was huge. It was nearly as big as the plate it was served on and with my voracious appetite, I had only the waffle and the filled me up until early afternoon (and a whole front/back yard mow). Emily couldn't finish her John Wayne breakfast and had to take half home with her. As for why this place as a meal named or based on The Duke or John Wayne, I am at a loss to explain why. Maybe it's mentioned on the menu and I somehow overlooked it or maybe it's just a known fact... I will never know. If you know and want to share, leave a comment below. I had mentioned this place was an empty square. This works for jamming in as many tables as you can but also causes some slight claustrophobia-like feel because your neighbor sits a bit closer than a normal restaurant. With that in mind, it does make having a conversation a bit difficult due to everyone's voice filling the room. I repeatedly had to go 'huh?' 'what?' more so than normal. But... I'm glad my initial skepticism was extinguished once we sat down and had our food. Just goes to show that you can't judge a book by it's cover.

She recommended the Cuban Pulled Pork Sandwich. My sandwich was huge and contained a large portion of pulled pork meat. It was delicious and the homemade chipotle bbq mayo made it all the more satisfying with its rich smoky flavor! The Cuban-style black beans were right out of Miami! Very nicely prepared and included green peas, carrots, corn, and bell peppers, as well. My dining companion, for her part, ordered the Falafel platter, with a side order of gyro meat. The falafel (a dozen), were fresh, tasty, and just the right consistency. These were served with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pita, and hummus. The side order of gyro meat featured a generous portion of decadently succulent lamb shavings and included two portions of homemade tzatziki sauce. Everything we ate was prepared to perfection and could easily compete with exceptional restaurants in Chicago! Yes, the food at One World is that good. As for the service, our waitress Quincy was friendly and professional. As for the ambiance and decor--we arrived ahead of the lunch crowd, so it was pretty quiet. The decor, however, is nicely done. The premises were clean and well maintained. Ditto the restrooms. The restaurant is actually huge. There are multiple dining areas and in the summer there is an outside patio behind the restaurant, as well. As for pricing and affordability--quality costs, and the food here is definitely a cut above. That being said, the owners have priced the entrees quite reasonably considering the generous portion-size and quality of the food. My overall opinion? If you want a dining experience worthy of comparison to the best Chicagoland has to offer, but don't want to make the long drive--or pay twice as much--then I highly recommend this little gem of a locally-owned restaurant in Peoria!

Review Visit: November 28th, 2021…read more I couldn't wait for this place to open. I can wait to go back. Somehow, the building of the Coffee Can became this huge hyped thing among people living in Central Illinois. Being from Central Illinois, I got wrapped up in this hype. It's probably due to the unique building materials used in it's construction. You see, the Coffee Can is literally made from shipping containers. It's been a trend that seems to be gaining popularity over the last few years/decade. Take a unique structure and throw in some coffee and that is probably how I got hyped up to try this place. Sadly, with the world currently in a unique situation, the items needed by the Coffee Can took forever to arrive. This lead to the opening being delayed multiple times. But, we are sitting here reviewing it so that must mean they finally opened. It was a windy and sunny afternoon with a few of my friends and I stopped in for some coffee and chit-chat. I wanted something warm since it was just cold enough to chill your inside without freezing you out completely. Also, I made sure to come here on an empty stomach so I could try out their food (which I am never hungry when trying these places, so the opportunity to sample their food is always a failure on my part... but I am learning). My order consisted of a 20oz. Americano and a 'Grown Up Grilled Cheese'. The place was busier than I anticipated for a Sunday since the baristas were busy with the orders that came before us and orders coming in through the drive-thru. After about a 5 minute wait, Jenn and I were able to put our orders in. She got a Chai Tea Latte and a salad. The wait for my drink was short and my food came out a few minutes after that. Since I was hungry, I dived right in to my sandwich while the coffee took it's sweet time cooling off. With those first two bites, I knew my sandwich wasn't going to be a great experience. I didn't realize it came with spinach on it until it came to write these words. I knew it had a funky taste but I haven't had spinach since I was a kid, so I couldn't place what was off about it. It wasn't completely off-putting as I ate the whole sandwich but I can't help but think I would've enjoyed it more had I ordered it without the offending topping. But, who puts a spinach on a grilled cheese?! I chalk that mistake up to me talking and not paying attention to what I was actually ordering. After an eternity, my coffee was cool enough to sip. My taste buds are a glutton for punishment and I love the bitterness of Americanos, but this one tasted very bland. It's hard to say what I wasn't a fan of but I just didn't care for it and was debating on ordering a new drink and tossing it. But, wasting coffee like that hurts my soul so I ended up sticking with it. I do chalk my interesting experience to myself making a mistake on ordering my sandwich and also not ordering the coffee I was craving and getting something basic instead. As we wrapped up our hangout, we decided to check out the upstairs area. The second we stepped foot on the 2nd floor, I wished we had our hangout up there. It was super cozy and intimate with comfy-looking seating and what appeared to be a fireplace. I didn't snap any good photos of the area as there were people sitting there and I didn't want to invade on their privacy. I may have had a unique experience for the worst but, as I said, the blame on that was mostly on me. My friends want to come back when it's a bit warmer out so we can sit outside on the upstairs deck. That you can see below (with the American flag). Hopefully my next visit is a better experience. If I do get to return, I will update this post with any new info/photos/revise the score based on that trip. As always, don't let my blog post dissuade anyone from checking out a place. Go there and it may just be your new favorite place!

We got the Reuben and the Beer and Whiskey Burger. Both with sides of fries. The burger was the worst! It was definitely overcooked, and dry AF! The bottom bun was burnt. Worst of all there was no Bourbon glaze which was a bummer because it wasn't seasoned ...not one bit!! The Reuben wasn't actually bad, the thick cut corned beef was yummy but the bread was also over toasted. The fries were good as was the side of ranch for a dip. We ordered a side of pickles for the Reuben but they came when the sandwich was nearly gone and only when we reminded the waitress which didn't circle back like normal to see how we were doing and check to see if things were good. Now here's the part that was wild. There were only 2 tables 3 people at one and 2 people at the other.
