Hear me out. I live in the neighborhood and I have come here ample amount of times over the years. Unfortunately, this place has gone downhill not because of the food as the food is still decent. It's the service that's got me like mehhh. Meh on a Thursday evening seating at a bar that's half full. Not only did I sit here for 20 minutes before I'm even acknowledged by anyone, but why do I have to flag you down MULTIPLE TIMES to get the simplest things in life! Hello I want a margarita. Hello I want some chips. Hello sis is hungry. Hello I want another margarita. Do you not think I drink water? I mean barely but I still need to quench my thirst before the liquor comes. We could've knocked this all out with one simple greeting but yet you failed to show up. *sigh*. Anyway, I'm going to continue sitting here, minding my business and still enjoy my pescado tacos and margarita that I had to beg to get like a hungry peasant boy in the Victorian era asking for bread but know miss thang (a literal girl) that you are getting side eyed by every pissed off, thirst and hungry patron currently sitting at the bar. read more

We are hoping for some restaurants to be open for christmas dinner and this place was one of them. And a random person told us this is a great place so we went in with confidence. First they asked us if we had a reservation....well we should have made a reservation on open table. Yet they managed us into a table. The service was really slow for sure, as they were probably understaffed. But they were personable. The server recommended up the chips and salsa for the table and Arroz con Camarones for me. Arroz con camarones was bit too salty and shrimp was overcooked with a lot of rice. Guacamole chips and queso was just yummy. Appetizer taco and quesadilla were kiddie size. The meal was not bad but the service and the price could have been better. read more

The food was okay and the service was terrible. If you want typical Mexican food like burritos pr fajitas this is not the place to go to. They have tacos which is typical but then they have other entrees like roasted chicken or mole enchiladas. We tried the veggie nachos and mole enchiladas. The nachos were okay and had some sort of fake cheese on it which I didn't like. The mole enchiladas weren't that bad. They were smoky and not sweet. The margaritas were okay, could only taste lime not tequila. Now for the service. The server took our drink and food order and never showed up again. I asked 3 different people for hot sauce and never got it. When we were ready for the bill I finally had to ask the hostess for it because our server deserted us. read more

This is how much salsa comes with an order of chips and salsa. Also, $12 is bit steep for tortilla soup. With so many other Mexican options in the neighborhood, I doubt I'll be choosing Tacuba again soon. read more

Having this spot so close to me is dangerous! I am a sucker for their tacos and chilaquiles!!! They are mmm mm good!!!! I really can't have enough of them. Let me warn you, their order of tacos are small despite being three but they are soooo scrumptious. Their chilaquiles are mouth watering good, which is a big deal for me because it's rare I come across chilaquiles that are that authentic and delicious. Fair warning, this spot is almost always full but it doesn't mean you won't get lucky if you decide to walk in. Definitely worth your time and $$ read more

I had a great time at Tacuba with friends! The COVID setup was fantastic, with private cabanas for each party- it was a warm spot on a cold night. Space was tight, but just enough for our small party of three. The food was great! I had the fish tacos, which were very flavorful and a great portion size. The drinks were the same- a good bang for your buck, and pretty strong too! Would definitely recommend this place- just make sure to make a reservation beforehand because there is usually a pretty long line. read more

Came here on a date night and had only an average experience, at best. With plenty of reservation options available on a Saturday night, we took a table at 8pm with most of the restaurant filled. Ordered a few appetizers (including your standard chips with guacamole and salsa) and settled on a few entrees. Our waitress was very nice and immediately served us drinks including a frozen margherita and mojito. We could hear ourselves talk and managed to have enough time to breath before having our food finally arrive, a huge relief for dining in a place like NYC. But after ordering our drinks, it took us a while to order food given how overstretched the waitressing staff seemed to be. Their menu is fairly small with few selections for vegetarians besides the Chile Relleno entree- a dish containing roasted poblano peppers filled with quinoa, mushrooms and kale, Oaxaca cheese, crema, tomato and habanero salsa. Their appetizers include sopa de tortilla, queso fundido (melted Mexican cheeses, flour tortillas and tomatillo salsa) and taco options including the "chapulin" (with oxacan grasshoppers). Our dishes came in a timely fashion with fairly big portion sizes, but the quality just didn't feel up-to-par as other Mexican restaurants in the area. Finally for dessert, we were quite pleased to have had a second dessert "on the house" (chocolate cake with pop rocks) to complement our chalupas. Overall we ate well but the ingredients didn't taste the freshest and our service wasn't the greatest. There are a TON of Mexican food options in Hell's Kitchen so it's doubtful we'll be back for seconds. read more

This place is so fun for a weekend dinner. As soon as you walk in there is music playing and beautiful colorful decor everywhere. We walked in and were lucky to be quickly seated in one of the outdoor cabanas with no wait. The servers made sure to clean and sanitize the cabana before seating us. We decided to order the guacamole to start off with. The server asked if we wanted mild or spicy and we chose spicy! It ended up being pretty mild despite having some jalapeño in it. The guacamole was served with chips and salsa. I definitely appreciated that the guacamole and salsa were fresh and homemade, and did not taste like something that came in a package. For drinks we both ordered frozen margaritas: regular and passion fruit. They were well made and were pretty strong. For entrees, we chose the steak burrito and torta. They are both large portions, but I felt the torta was a better value because it had more steak. The burrito had more filler like beans and rice. Our server was very attentive throughout the night l, and we would definitely return to try out the other items on the menu. read more

Lovely spot that we made reservations for a pre-show meal. We need the energy and some drinks before a concert at Terminal 5 and my friends found this spot nearby. They were able to accommodate our last minute change in reservations with ease and sat us at our table the moment we walked in. Rarely does that ever happen! We got to chatting at our table and kept getting distracted by our conversation so we had to keep asking the waiter to give us some more time for decisions. We all started out with cocktails. I ordered the mango mojito (yum) and my tablemates ordered the coconut one. I tried a sip of theirs and it was also delicious. For starters we went with the guacamole that comes with chips and tomato salsa and the baked cheese dish. Omg that cheese. Forreal. Serving up some major salivation on my end right now. We each ordered tacos, which were definitely very small, but perfect size for us as we also had ordered sides and were feeling pretty stuffed up from the apps. I ordered the calabacita ones. The taco was pretty good, a little on the dry side. For sides we went with the Brussel sprouts and the plantains. Those plantains were amazing! The Brussel sprouts were very Brussel sprout-y. Which isn't a bad thing because i love the veggie, but it wasn't the best introduction to our friend who had never tried Brussel sprouts before! Our meal ended with tequila shots! As one of our friends doesn't drink tequila, the waiter was happy to knock that one back with us. All and all a good experience and some yummy eats! read more

The highlight of the service was getting seated and it all went downhill from there. Three of us came and sat at the bar for a quick drink and a snack after a few hours at the MOMA. For what we ordered, the pace was glacial; for reference a girl who sat and ordered around the same time as us got her full entree and was halfway through by the time our chips and guac came. The restaurant was in no way packed or busy. Aside from the service, the chip vs guac ratio was WAY off and so we requested another basket of chips which seemed to annoy the bartender. Our second basket was stale (first one definitely tasted fresh) and the bartender pretty much ignored us for the rest of the time we were there. So. If you want to sit at a bar and be ignored just to end up getting stale chips and mediocre service this is your place. This area has plenty of other Mexican joints, I'd say maybe try one of those. read more

Went with a group for a friend's birthday. We made reservations due to the group size. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had the queso dip and guacamole which was really tasty. Ordered the chicken tacos with rice. The chicken was authentic and very flavorful. The rice was okay but needed some sauce to flavor it. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and the overall experience there. Overall, good atmosphere and experience especially due to group size. The staff was friendly and worked to accommodate us. I would check this out again when return to the area. Good food, prices, and nice space. read more

We had brunch here and it was relatively quiet because we got there as it opened. I'd say overall it was a fine experience but nothing stood out especially. Guacamole was good, with a little kick but also agree it is not super flavorful. What I ordered was also fine, egg/cheese over a bean filled pancake. They seem to have a good selection of alcoholic drinks and could see this place being a spot for happy hour. Not far from Port Authority or the Little Pie Company. read more

Such a great spot! We went pre theater and we loved it. The salsa was texturally light but bold in flavor. The hamachi was fresh, well portioned and well seasoned with a balance of citrus and heat. The birria was rich and had a lot of depth and our drink (la piña niña) was very refreshing. Our waitress was extremely nice and the ambiance was perfectly rustic. We're really looking forward to going back so we can try all the other things we wanted to get! read more

Loved this find in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York, free of the Times Square tourist traps. Tacuba had great service as everyone was friendly, accommodating, and gave great recommendations- even despite it being busy. They had expanded outdoor seating and so we were able to take in some of the sites and people watching - Bar Nine across the street had live music so we were able to benefit from that. Cocktails were great and the food was really tasty and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the mole enchiladas and octopus and chorizo tacos. Great find! read more

Was able to try this spot for dinner in one of of their outdoor dining tables. Service was prompt and courteous. Ordered some chips and guacamole to start, and the guacamole was amazing!! For dinner I went with the fish tacos, but was sadly underwhelmed. It tasted much more bland than I expected despite it being battered fish. Only other flavor it had of was the spice. Not too shabby but should have went with another taco option. read more

Super cute spot with Spanish music and good vibes and great prices. The cocktails are strong but still balanced well. Although the food I ordered had good flavors they were over cooked:( Ordered the oyster tomato based ceviche (I was feeling adventurous) although the tomato base grew on me the oysters weren't fresh and the shrimp was over cooked as if it was precooked (pink almost orange). The suadero (brisket) taco unfortunately was also well(over) cooked making the chewing experience last far too long. This was a shame because the masa is so freakin good. The dessert too was a miss :/ the meringue on the tres leches is yummy and thankfully not too sweet but something went wrong with the cake. First there was no lemon taste (to me. My partner claimed they tasted a hint but said they tasted it in the merengue...). Secondly either the oven wasn't the right temp or the butter was overworked but the cake was chewy/dry not spongy:( Overall the delicious homemade tortillas and cocktails are what Id return for and hopeful my next meal isn't overdone:) read more

The food was excellent, and I absolutely plan on revisiting this spot in the future! I liked the decor quite a bit. It felt like some effort had been put into the aesthetics. Rozena got herself the fish tacos which were some of the best I've had since moving from the west coast. The carne asada y huevos, a brunch entree, was good as well, and I especially liked the enchilada that came with the steak. It did feel overly oily however, which is a minus for me. Was very tempted to get the pancakes -- in fact, I just might sometime soon. read more

It has been few months since we visited this location. We were so disappointed about the food (even though we eat it). The aguachile has no flavor and the presentation was not the same like before, the sauce was so thick and not the way it's suppose to be. We only saw shrimp and few small pieces of I believe was lobster:. We also order the molcajete and it was so much sauce and 3 small pieces of steak. Before it used to have a bigger piece and better presentation I also ordered the sweet plantains and those were so bad, swimming in oil and overcooked. I wonder if they change the chef ? Because we used to live come here. The service was great, very attentive and professional. Drinks also great. read more

Lovely restaurant with indoor or outdoor dining, the staff through and through is so attentive, nice, and friendly. We didn't have a reservation but were able to be walked in and seated no issue. Beverages: the drinks there are killer, i ordered a regular margarita and it was perfect, not too sweet and the perfect balance of ingredients. They have cocktails and margaritas of all types alongside beer. Appetizers: the guacamole was delicious and you can customize your spice level. We got a small order and it was perfect to split with 2 people. The queso was definitely some of the best i have had and you can customize that as well by adding different things to it like chorizo. They come with flour tortillas. Though we didn't get the nachos they looked fabulous! Tacos: the Birria tacos were incredible, very full of meat and the flavor was outstanding. My friend had the octopus tacos and she said they were sooo good as well. Would recommend either. Tacos come with 3 per order. read more

This restaurant was so cute! The outdoor seating is really nice and made my friends and I feel safe while eating. Staff was very friendly. We ordered the guacamole with chips, tacos, and margaritas. The guacamole was delicious and also came with another dipping sauce we used with the tacos as well. The mango margarita was a little bit disappointing, as it didn't taste like mango at all. The margarita has a very strong tequila taste, which I didn't enjoy very much. read more

Delicious tacos and they don't skimp on the tequila! Love the rustic decor and groovy music. We started with the guacamole, which was super creamy, tasty, and just the right amount of spicy. Generous potion for two and the chips tasted like they were fresh out of the fryer. So salty and crispy . The margaritas were sensational! Nice and strong, flavorful, and the tajin salt added the perfect kick! However, my favorite parts of this fiesta de sabores were the chorizo and pulpo tacos. What an amazing combination!! Can't wait to try this place again. I should also mentioned the staff is by far the friendliest I've encountered, post-pandemic. Super helpful, knowledgeable, and we never felt rushed. read more

I just dined there tonight after many years. It used to be one of the best Mexican restaurants about 8 years ago went downhill and after 3 years decided to try again to see if it had returned to what I knew 8 years ago HORRIFIC 1. Arrived before 6 asked if we could have happy hour he said literally it is 6 02 it is over even though we were sitting there before 6 ok fine we still ordered 2. Ordered guac chips stale had to return 3. Brought the food ordered another glass of wine and margarita 4 took my first glass even though I still had wine in the glass pointed it out to the waiter at which point I realized he did not speak English 5 our second drinks never came and when I pointed it out to another waiter who spoke English he said he would call the manager who never came Food was cold and my tacos which was suppose to have pico di Gallo on them came naked just chicken and then a dish of pico di Gallo came I guess we dress our own tacos Please avoid this nightmare read more

This food was disgusting, and the service was terrible. Prior to 2020, Tacuba was one of the more refined Mexican restaurants in Hells Kitchen. Last night proved to me that things have changed. The enchiladas were bitter and covered in a grotesque sauce. The cheese on my friends tacos had gone bad, and the chicken in my replacement dish was not seasoned. The service took about 30 minutes between drinks and ordering. Then, they brought me a replacement dish after the party had finished eating, I asked for it to go and that took another 20 minutes. In the end my frozen mango margarita cost me $62. Don't bother with this place, one can buy a lot more Big Macs for the same price and a much better culinary experience, read more

Cool spot. Found with yelp's help. Out with a few friends for the March for Our Lives rally this weekend and, well Mexican is the way to go to set that festive tone. And this place was a hit with everyone Place has a nice vibe, decor & staff. We all ordered different plates but there was only one compliant with the food, their salsa for the chips & salsa was eh. More like a spicy sauce than a salsa. Another disappointment was the drink: piña para La Niña. I would pass on that one. But the food was all a hit. I ordered tacos with zucchini n other veggies. Order comes with 3 lil tacos on a corn tortilla. Yummy. I was a fan of the portion size. Kinda small in comparison to what one usually finds at Mexican spots but I find those a bit much so this was a pleasant deviation. Tacos came with a bowl of rice and beans as well. Yum! Would come back & definitely recommend. Enjoy. Cheers! read more

Love love love. I'm so happy to see them busy. I'm used to eating at the one in Astoria, but since we are nearby for the month I'm so happy to get those pulpo tacos. DELICIOUS. I like Tacuba a lot, I've been a handful of times and have always enjoyed the experience. Their food is delicious, I really like their brunch options and their tacos. Pictured is the suadero, served with rice and beans. Delicious with a tiny hint of spiciness, can't go wrong. And the tangy house sauce they serve with their tortilla chips is awesome. Their margaritas are another draw, as the place seems to pride itself on its tequila selection. I have yet to try a margarita I didn't like, and I've had several on different visits. The space is great, very open and airy, with lots of light, especially in the back. Service is solid, if not a touch slow sometimes. So why four stars? As with a lot of my NYC dineout experiences, I can't get over the sticker shock. Some of the menu items are just too expensive, it feels like there are limited options if you're trying to eat at less than $25 per person (without drinks). Other than that, great spot in a great area! read more

What I love from this place is the food and the time. I always have a good experience. However, today my dinner, it wasn't that pleasant. It was my first time sitting at the bar for dinner. My friend and I ordered only food, not drinks. The bartender who was a lady never came to check how my friend and I were doing, there were also two other bartenders and they as well never asked if we needed anything. It seems like they only check on people who order drinks. Like I said food and time it was great, service not great. I will come back again but I will not sit at the bar. As a fellow server who also works at a restaurant, I was very disappointed. I don't recommend the bar to those who are not going to have drinks. read more

I went into Tacuba with high hopes of a 5 star experience given their menu and vast selection of tequilas. If it were just about the food and drinks, then Tacuba did not disappoint. Their suadero tacos, carne asada plato fuerte, and pollo con pipian were next level flavorful. The party in our mouths should have translated to our table; however, we barely had any space where we were seated by the bar to fit all of the platos and bebidas. Forks kept falling on the ground as we tried to rearrange everything like a game of Tetris. We should have been seated at a proper table for our group of 3 especially since I took the time to make a reservation noting our family night out. I didn't come to realize that where we were seated was actually meant for people who wanted to drink and have snacks until 30 mins into our service still waiting for our drink order to be taken. We felt forgotten until this treasure named Rebeca happened to pass by our table and hear our call for help. She was amazing. Managers note this - Rebeca made our experience what it should have been from the get go. KEEP THIS WOMAN!!! While other staff ignored us or dismissed any questions we had about Tacuba trio options, she listened and made drink suggestions accordingly after the fact. Her recommendation of the Pepinada was on POINT! She apologized for the lack of space for us to enjoy our meals, removed things that didn't need to be there, replaced the things that SHOULD have been there, and made sure our meals were not delayed like our drinks and appetizers had been. She came over to wish us a Merry Christmas with the warmest smile and complimentary shots of Espolon. She showed genuine care that made us feel welcome. She is the reason why we would return to Tacuba Hell's Kitchen. Rebeca, eres el gran tesoro de Tacuba! Ojala que podemos verte en la proxima vez que venimos. read more

First time visit, wasn't impressed with the service from the waitress Rebecca. I had the sangria, it was ok. I ordered the chips n salsa from another waitress, Rebecca was NO where to be found. The sauce definitely tasty. I received my dish, Chicken with Pipian, and was highly disappointed. The broccoli burnt, charred and inedible. The Pipian sauce was in the side of the dish and a huge piece of chicken dumped on top of coconut rice which contradicted the Pipian sauce. Did I mention the chicken had no salt or flavor? And it wasn't in the sauce because it was grilled separately. The second half of the boneless thigh chicken was hardened and inedible. I'm regretting paying $24 for the dish. After complaining to the hostess because Rebecca want around, (I wasn't asked How's it going. And then she tried to lie to my face that i said it was ok. Bullshit. ) The only discount i received after asking was -$8 for the sangria. Highly dissatisfied with food and service. No tip. I do not recommend. I would not every visit again. read more
