Overall, a fun place to come check out happy hour or a weekend hang! The food - the food was fine, but I thought the quesadilla was quite small and some of the flavors in the enchilada were underwhelming. I wonder if some of this was because they were so busy on a Friday evening evening because the food overall was good just felt like it was rushed. Reservations- we were able to make some on a busy Friday evening a few hours before so I don't think you need reservations, but it would be helpful to have some especially if you're coming on the weekend night Vegetarian friendly ? Yes I think so because they can make a lot of the vegetarian for example, the enchiladas were originally with chicken, but we could set it for without chicken and the quesadilla already with vegetarian. Service - I think these guys are understaffed for how busy they are on Fridays. We never had our water filled and we were never checked on except for when we needed to order something again. Everyone was super nice it just I think they were very busy. read more

First time here and wow, I'm impressed! I'm Mexican so I'm always very picky about Mexican food as it can be a hit or miss in nyc. My date chose this place and suggested these enchiladas and they were absolutely delicious!!! I love mole and this one was both sweet and spicy!! The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We got chips & guac for starters and it's an authentic guac so no notes there. They have a good selection of cocktails and ordered the watermelon cocktail without the alcohol as I don't drink, and it was so tasty and refreshing!!! Service was phenomenal. All very friendly! They had a great playlist of amazing Mexican songs and was jamming to them lol. Will definitely be coming back again! read more

Perfect spot to grab a killer margarita! My friend and I came in tonight and sat at the bar. We only got drinks, but wow did it make an impact! I had the pepinada, which is a spicy cucumber margarita. It was a real 5 star drink! If you love spicy margs, you will love this! The bartender was super efficient and friendly. I can't wait to come back and try the food here (and get another pepinada)! read more

Must try: Happy Hour Margaritas and Nachos (1/2 Off)! Why: Refreshing Margaritas for 1/2 off during happy hour! Loved the Strawberry and Mango flavors. Nachos are also 1/2 off so we shared Chicken Nachos as an app. It was packed with toppings including guacamole. I ordered Birria Tacos Con Consume, which were a small but the braised brisket was juicy and tender with a crispy shell and a small bowl of consume on the side. Was hoping for more consume to enjoy but my tummy was satisfied with the nachos and 2 drinks. Notes: Nice, spacious and clean restaurant with neat decor. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. We went on a Friday at 4pm for Happy Hour and were seated immediately. Workers were attentive, friendly, and helpful. Overall, great happy hour spot if you like margaritas and nachos. Coming back for more! read more

Ambiance was nice; not super loud and surprisingly spacious for this area of town. Food was alright; our guac wasn't super flavorful. My bad for forgetting to ask for my Birria tacos without cilantro because it was covered in it which isn't my favorite but I forgot. My parents both got the stuffed peppers not knowing they were green; mom didn't mind but my dad tried to reorder something. Service was not great; attentive at first. They got my husbands drink order wrong and when he mentioned that they didn't say oh our bad and fix it; they sort of denied it and then brought the right one anyway so it turned out it was wrong. Then because of this they stopped attending our table because my dad's food remained untouched and enough time went by it didn't make sense to reorder. When my husband paid we mentioned the meal he didn't touch and tried to get their attention to get it swapped out. He left to try and get it removed for the bill but said he couldn't. It wasn't a huge deal but it was sort of disappointing and mediocre overall so I wouldn't return. read more

I was here in the middle of the pandemic when they were open for outdoor seating. And it was yummy then. I was back yesterday. And it is yummy now. Don't let the size of the tacos fool you. Every single one of them is loaded with flavor and spice. In a good way. Brother got the strawberry margarita.yummy yummy. Hubby got a Deki in a bottle. Perfect for him. Get the guacamole. Get the kale that spicy as a side dish. Get anything on the menu and I think you'll be happy. read more

Not a huge fan of this place. Pros: + Can seat large groups. Cons: - Automatically add gratuity - Do not split checks - Food is terrible for what you're paying. Lacks flavor - Small, overpriced portions - Dessert that belongs in the garbage anyway. - The chocolate cake we got was absolutely terrible and dry as a bone IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC read more

Decent Mexican food! We ordered the guac and chips for the table as well as brunch dishes. The guac wasn't the best I ever had, but it was okay! There are a lot of brunch options that averaged to $15 a dish, which is decent pricing for the area as well. I appreciated that the staff didn't rush us and let us hang out there for a bit. But it helped that it wasn't crowded there at all on a Sunday afternoon. read more

I order takeaways from here plenty. Dined in person as well once a few years ago. Consistently good food. Especially nachos and brussel sprouts. The enchiladas are good too, like the tacos but a bit under seasoned typically. Huge space and a nice vibe. Friendly staff and quick deliveries especially if you're around. read more

This review is based on my experience with Tacuba Hells Kitchen delivery via DoorDash. The burrito we ordered was packaged in a way that the sauce container was wrapped around it and left a container sized dent in the burrito. The sauce itself was delicious. Chicken Quesadilla was just okay, the plantains were delicious as was the sauce they came with. Guacamole was decent. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts...... not good AT ALL, most of the Brussels sprouts were not ripe and thus inedible. No photos bc everything got pretty mixed up during delivery read more

came on wednesday night w friends - this restaurant is shockingly big and good for groups! we did a walk in for 6 people and they were able to accommodate. we got the ceviche sampler for starters to share and it was delicious but it didnt come with spoons so we didnt eat it for a while. the tuna ceviche was my fav! it hit for mains i got the octopus/fish tacos and it was good but kinda dry, had to add the green salsa and it made it perfect plus flavorful my cons for this place: they charge for chips and salsa and the service is incredibly slow. not sure if id return because service is huge for me, but its definitely a solid mexican spot read more

I came here for my cousins bday last Friday. The hostess was sweet and the restaurant is very spacious. I had the fish tacos and they were soooo good. The steak tacos were also good but I felt like it needed more meat. The elote was delish. I didn't really like the huitaloche (I don't know how to spell it) fried rice it didn't have any flavor. The guac was ok wasn't spicy at all but the orangey red salsa they gave on the side I could drink it that's how good it was. The caramel sauce for the churros was delish and I liked the flan. Our server was polite and attentive. So overall a good time. read more

Came here for a company team dinner. Overall the food was good. Ordered the branzino which was cooked perfectly - tender and light. We had a lot of shared dishes that were also delicious - the queso dip and ceviche. I've been eying Tacuba for a while and hopeful that Hells Kitchen had finally delivered an authentic Mexican restaurant featuring flavorful, mouthwatering food. But, alas, Tacuba is really just another mediocre Mexican restaurant that, while good, is not great! See below for more details. DRINKS: This was the best part of the experience. The margaritas were tasty and priced right (especially for NYC). We tried a few different varieties, and they were all tasty. APPS: We ordered the nachos for the table and added chicken as our protein. The dish was okay, but the portion was smallish for our party of 4, and they just didn't deliver on flavor. ENTRÉES: I had the Carne Asada Tacos (steak tacos) with cheese, which were small for the price. They were tasty enough but certainly not on par with more "authentic" Mexican restaurants outside of Manhattan. My partner, Tony, ordered the Fish Tacos, which, again, were acceptable, but they were nothing to write home about. My other dining companions ordered the Chile Relleno entrée (and one friend added steak as a protein to the dish). Both reported that they liked the dishes, but they were just "okay." ATMOSPHERE: The interior of Tacuba is updated and inviting, but it has no real character. And, I guess, for the "move 'em in and move 'em out" nature of this establishment, that is fine. But you really wouldn't want to bring someone here for a date night. It's really more of a place to bring friends. Final Note: I gave Tacuba 3 stars, but, in reality, I would say it's close to 3.25 stars. read more

Came here while in town. The food was really good, the staff was really nice. The only thing that felt weird was we were the only people who were black and were placed in the back almost hidden. You can see in the video that i posted all of the empty tables on the way to our table. The margaritas were really good. The chips and salsa were good. And the tacos were top tier and fresh we even ordered 2 rounds. read more

This is a lame review for record-keeping purposes only, as I was so full from my work happy hour that by the time I got to Tacuba, I could only handle the Ensalada de Aguacate. First time coming here and it was great. What a cool name as it makes you feel like you're not in The Big Apple but you're having awesome food in a classy atmosphere. Located on 9th Avenue between 53rd & 54th Streets everything is good except the parking if you drive from out of the city, but that isn't an issue for me. Make reservations ahead of time because it does get crowded. This recent visit was to celebrate Christmas because my colleague who organized this reservation via OpenTable reserved a table for a party of 6 at 5pm and we ordered enough food and enough adult bevy's. Three of us ordered Carne Asada which was full of flavor and soft meat, very delicious rice which included sliced avocado on top. It also included a nicely warmed tortilla. Awesome dish, not like any other I've had before. I was not dissatisfied coming here, which is why it gets 5 stars from me. It's all about the food, service, and the atmosphere. We also were surprised when our server brought a round of Tequila shots on the house! Go check this place out, it's just that good! read more

Maybe it's just me but I don't see why this place is so popular. The food is very subpar, the portions are tiny and the prices are very high for what you're getting. There are better Mexican places to patronise. read more

Came here a few months ago and had a great dinner. My cocktail was great. I'm a little fuzzy about the exact items we ordered, but there were def avocado fries which was my first time ever having. They came with a pretty good dipping sauce. I added my touches and made them better. My date and I shared a variety of tacos. The one that stood out the most was the suadero. All in all, good food and service. Pretty loud in there though between loud music and crowd trying to talk on top of it. read more

I wanted to branch out and try a new restaurant besides going to my usual favs in the city. Came across this via a Yelp search. We had a lovely waitress, who gave awesome suggestions and was accommodating to our vegetarian/seafood pallet. The Branzino Tixin Xic was amazing and came with a really good sauce. It just tasted very light and fresh. The octopus tostado was not my favorite, but I'm really glad I came here and tried this spot. It's in a bit of a touristy neighborhood, but it had a nice lively atmosphere internally. read more

Called up the beau and said let's taco this Tuesday. He was on board so we met at the bar for Happy Hour. The strawberry margaritas were light, refreshing and packed a wallop. The bartender was lovely and very accommodating. We decided to stay at the bar and have some tacos. We had the Pescado and Suadero. The fried fish was not crispy but the brisket was tender and flavorful. I will say I like the atmosphere here better than some of the other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood mainly because of the big bar and spacious dining area. It's definitely a little elevated and the prices do reflect that. read more

While walking around Hell's Kitchen Yesterday, we decided to stop by Tacuba for some lunch. It was such a pleasant day, that we decided to sit outside. It was around 3:10 when we arrived, we decided to stay for their happy hour at 4. As soon as I saw Ceviche in the menu, I knew that's what I'd be getting. My friend got the tacos. My Ceviche arrived pretty quickly, but this wasn't what I was expecting at all. This is the description from the menu, "Shrimp, octopus, oysters, light tomato sauce, onions, cilantro, avocado" This was 90% tomato sauce, nothing is light about it. This feels like the salsa that I should be eating with chips. Instead I'm eating it with a spoon. The seafood was all very tender and fresh. This was not my favorite Ceviche, due to way too much tomato sauce. My friend liked her tacos, but she said the chicken was a bit dry. When 4:00 clock striked, we wanted to get some margaritas. We got classic, mango and I got Passion Fruit. We also got chips, salsa and guacamole. They only offered these during happy hour. The happy hour margaritas are $14, the regular cost is $18. The margaritas were all very delicious, expensive, and not super strong. The guacamole was also very fresh and tasty. I didn't like the salsa, it looked like tomato soup from a can. Tacuba is a fun looking Mexican Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen, unfortunately I'm a bit disappointed in my Ceviche, while the drinks were tasty, they basically charged regular price for happy hour. read more

Tasty authentic Mexican food in a lively environment. I ordered the Enchiladas de Pollo en Mole ($20), which were classic with a nice presentation. The flavors complemented each other well, with the fresh veggies, savory chicken, and slightly sweet mole sauce. I also tried both the Suadero Tacos ($17) and Carne Asada Tacos with cheese ($18). Both sets of tacos (3 per order) were also classic and tasty. The carne asada tacos had a generous amount of cheese on them (extra $1 for cheese). To drink, I got the Strawberry Frozen Raspados (margarita, $11), which is probably their most popular drink, and for good reason, as it was refreshingly fruity. The prices were pretty reasonable. The interior has a lively atmosphere with dim lighting. There is a bar area and also lots of regular table seating both indoors and outdoors. There is some interesting Mexican themed decor with wooden walls and furniture. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the service speed is decent. Overall, I would highly recommend Tacuba if you are looking for classic Mexican foods and drinks with a lively atmosphere in Hell's Kitchen. read more

Amazing food and dessert. Probably one of the best Mexican food spots I have been to in the city and lovely vibes. I also loved their pineapple mezcal - perfect for a summer day! read more

My best friend and I ventured into here after a long bus trip and left full! There is indoor/outdoor seating, and since it was packed outdoors we got to sit inside. The host even accommodated our bags! The inside is nice with moody lighting( you know I loved this!) For music, it was a playlist, which played a mix of up to date/old school Latin music. Our server was very informative on the menu! For drinks, I got the Chef Margarita and she got a frozen mango margarita. Both were good tasting but just needed a bit more alcohol. Since we were both starving, we went straight to entrees. I got the Carne Asada & my friend got the Tacos De Pescado (Crispy Fish Tacos). I really did demolish the Carne Asada! The one minor thing, I want to mention is that I had to ask for utensils for my steak, which our server was great about! read more

Decided to come here on a Tuesday night with a party of 8 and got seated right away. Service was great and the food came out really quickly. Note that this place is definitely more of a bar-scene place; dim lit and lively ambiance. Ordered the carne asada tacos with cheese and they were suuuuper yummy! Let me begin by writing that the food was actually good and the vibe is very chill however, the service on the other hand was extremely horrible. I suggest the owner look into this matter. The host was very helpful and kind to us (party of 3). Waitress (older lady) was extremely slow and unfriendly. Her customer service sucked. We often had to wait to get their attention and water was not refilled while they chatted amongst each other. Thankfully the host (young girl) saw us and called the waiter a few times. Manager(light blue shirt)? didn't do anything to rectify the issue. It was just a horrible experience. Saddened to say that I would've returned esp since the food was good but cannot due to their poor or lack of service. read more

Fantastic Mexican food and great for intimate parties. The tacos, chile relleno, and quesadillas (with corn, mushroom, and black truffle) were beyond amazing and very authentic tasting. A bunch of us celebrated galentines day at Tacuba and the food did not disappoint. We ordered a few appetizers and entrees to share. The drink menu was extensive and they will make any drink without alcohol. I ordered a virgin La Sandia and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. I love watermelon so this was the best recommendation from the server. The servers were so nice and attentive from replacing our plates with new ones to offering to move things out of the way etc. We had an awesome time. What we ordered: Guacamole and chips, a must at any Mexican restaurant. The guac had a slight kick and the orange sauce that came with it was fire. Tostado de pulpo is amazing. I would come back just to have 5 of these because it was so good. Add some lime and the tostado is bursting with flavors. 10/10 recommend. Calle de hacha was so creamy. Sea scallops cooked to perfection and another great dish to share. Molcajete with the steak, chicken, shrimp, cactus and cheese, yummm. There were so many ingredients in this bowl melded together that tasted so good together. Finally, we ordered the Birria con consume and although it was messy to eat, it was delicious. The restaurant had great music and plenty of seating. I just wish the lighting upstairs was a bit brighter because we were seated towards the back. I hadn't really thought of this place for brunch but it wasn't super busy on a Sunday at 12:45 so we decided to pop in. I really love the interior. It has a lot of nods to day of the dead, with Mexican skulls and ornate tiles everywhere. They did a great job on the aesthetic. It's also nicely lit with natural light. I think they have a skylight in the upper back area of the restaurant. The pepinada cocktail was delicious and boozy! It's a Really great option if you like spicy and sweet. My companions completely cleared their plates which suggests that brunch was really good, that we were really hungry, and that the portions are just a bit small for my liking. The guacamole for the table was fresh and the red sauce that accompanied it was delish. I was surprised at how good my chilaquilles were. I added steak, which is a must add. The steak and the red sauce with the saturated chip with cheese was muey bueno. Definitely recommend this spot when in the neighborhood if looking for something equal parts trendy and flavorful. read more
