I love the people who served us, the authenticity of the room, they have best chorizo I've had in the last 5 years and maybe ever....and the red sangria was excellent. I went with my dad, his girlfriend, my wife and 3 teens, 2 of whom were very hungry and the food took an hour to come to the table...so not so good on that front! Still, the were nice, it was authentic and the place has been around, so i gave a 4 instead of 3 to give them the benefit of the doubt... I may revise if I have that experience again. For starters, we had patatas bravas, which I found awkward with a tomato onion that didnt blend well with the potatoes, the aforementioned chorizo, the shrimp al ajillo, which is very good but could have been a bit more garlicky sharp and the tortilla, which was not as onion intense and dense as I love, but may have been healthier and was certainly lighter than what I like...I frankly might find myself craving it sometime soon.... I had Paella de La Casa and it was very good. For my wife, to the left in the pic, she had Filete de Pescado a La Gallega and it was light eggy lemony and good. But the big winner was the plain old chicken on my right. The Arroz Con Pollo was a total disaster for us. Saturday, February 21, 2026 @ 3:30ish, Birthday Dinner for 4. The staff was amazing and super friendly and courteous. We were able to sit toward the back where it was bright and spacious as one of us had a walker. Sangria was nice but, needed a bit more zip( but this was made the traditional way). Coffee was made fresh to order and was delicious* 3 cups for me* Bread was warm and butter was soft and spreadable( a big plus) We ordered 2 orders of the croquet and requested 2 of each ham, chicken, spinach and codfish. I was eating vegetarian so only had the spinach which were fresh with crispy outside and creamy inside. Sardine dish was 2 nice size fish and grilled to perfection. Anchovies dish was in a nice vinegarette. Steak and Fries.. lightly seasoned with s & p cook as ordered. It was tender and done right French fries were seasoned well. Crispy outside and soft on the inside. House Special Paella comes with tones of topping and was plated tableside. Vegetable Paella was surprisingly flavorful and had a nice selclection of vegetable. Also salted tableside. Black beans with cheese which i spooned over the vegetable paella. Birthday desserts are a must have... Flan super fresh and creamy Chocolate cake was fresh and oh so good. Almond Torte was also amazing. If you gat a fork full of the chocolate cake and almond torte in the same bite you will swear you are eating a Mounds bar. Went for lunch and found a great deal with salad and bread included in the entree price and a decent pitcher of red sangria to share for two as well. The Galacian cuisine includes the surprise of veal that isn't usually found on Spanish menus, but you can also find a traditional seafood paella. First impressions are everything, and this place failed right away. I walked in with my girlfriend to an almost empty restaurant (only two other small parties), and asked if we could sit in the back where it was quiet and empty. Instead, they told us no, but said we could sit at a larger table near the front--right next to another couple. To make it worse, when I tried to sit next to my girlfriend, the older lady who seated us told me not to because I might bump into someone behind me, and said it with an attitude. Honestly, that should've been our cue to leave, but we stayed. The food was just as disappointing. If you're looking for a very light and bland dinner, this is your spot. My girlfriend ordered the garlic chicken, and I got the fish a la parilla. Both came with a sad scoop of rice--maybe 100 grams at most. The chicken was tasteless, the fish was forgettable, and nothing about the food made up for the service. What really sealed the deal for me was the staff. The son (I assume he was family) ignored us most of the time, and only came over when we asked for the check. Then, the cherry on top: they added a $10 tip without saying a word. I almost called them out, but my girlfriend didn't want me to make a scene. Worst dining experience I've had in a long time. I will not be back. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place--honestly, you'd get more value and flavor from a fast food spot nearby. read more

This place is small, cozy and beautiful. I have visited this restaurant in the past, 2018 and havent been back since. I have been dying to come back because my first visit was amazing. The restaurant has outdoor seating available right now. They have a bright red awning in front so it really stands out. The outside has a bright red gate. The Spain flag is hanging. It's on the lower level of like a brown stone type building so you do have to walk down a few a steps, not too many. The restaurant looks exactly the same as my last visit. Bar to the left which has a wall dividing the seating area. To the right there's multiple squared tables. Smaller tables towards the front, bigger tables towards the back. The tables had a vase and flower in the center. The brick walls and concrete ceiling add such a unique touch to the restaurant. I ordered from the lunch section of the menu. The prices are reasonable especially with the ridiculous food costs lately. I ordered the bistec with boiled potato. The lunch items come with a house salad that is already seasoned with vinegar, oil, salt. I asked for the steak to be cooked to medium temp. It was perfectly cooked and came with a ton of onions on top. The potato is simply boiled. I think both the potato and steak could of used more salt BUT it was so good and i ate it without asking for salt. The service was 2 on 1. It was perfect. My friend and i were the only two people in the restaurant. The waiter was friendly, quick and attentive. I cannot wait to be back. Maybe next time I'll try a different item. read more

I went to Cafe Riazor for the first time in 1989. It was great then and its great now. Timeless. My wife and I spend a month a year in Spain. To say that we are acquainted with spanish food would be an understatement. We haven't been to the restaurant since my friends 50th 10 years ago. Mistake. We should go more often. As a family run restaurant siblings David and Miriam's warmth and charm are ever present. The spirit of their father is in every dish. As in spain, have patience, since many of the dishes especially the rice dishes take time. We started with the classic tapas: shrimps with garlic, chorizo, mussels, torillia espansola ( egg, potatoe, and onion omlette ). All hot and spot on. Since it was cold last night, I had a bowl of Caldo Gallego. THIS SOUP SHOULD WIN AWARDS. As one of the classic Galician soups any true Galician restaurant needs to make one. Kind of like a jewish deli serving matzo ball soup. This dish was a standout of the meal. Rich broth from pork, bones and chorizo, laden with escarole and white beans. Come here just for that and a glass of rioja and some crusty bread......yummy. We had the black rice with squid. Sublime. Rich with squid ink. Tender squid. NOT TOO SALTY. Enough for two to split as a main course. Others had the Chicken Raizor a house favorite. Broiled with a vinger based sauce. There version of adobo chicken. Someone had a fish dish. Looked like a francesse style. Flan and coffer for desert. Put this restaurant on your list of go to "foodie" spots. We won't be coming back... We were very disappointed with most of what we ordered. We've spent considerable time in Spain and none of this tasted authentic. We ordered jamon croquettas, chorizo al vino tinto, pulpo, and olives to start. The olives were uninspiring, the croquettas tasted off, like their fryer oil was dirty, and the chorizo was burnt, even the wine sauce for the chorizo tasted burnt. The pulpo was so overcooked it was completely inedible, though the flavor of the seasoning was decent. We also ordered the pollo riazor which was well cooked and the sauce was fine. It was enjoyable, but felt like something I would cook at home. Very simple and overpriced and the vegetable side was just a pile of steamed broccoli. The sangria was delicious and decently strong. Service was perfectly nice and the atmosphere was that of an old family-run restaurant in NYC. We won't come come back. We ordered the most basic and simple tapas and all of them were bad. As a Spaniard I had really high hopes for this restaurant. I understand, of course, that it might be hard for Spanish restaurants to get their hands on authentic ingredients, even here in NYC, so I have factored that into my rating. Also, if Yelp allowed half stars I wouldn't hesitate in giving it a 3.5. I suppose that it is also possible that if we had tried different things that the rating might be higher. On this occasion we tried the olives, the grilled sardines, the boquerones, the croquetas and the pan con tomate. The olives were fine, although my wife thought they had too much vinegar. The real problem with the olives is that you pay $6.75 for maybe a dozen olives. I understand we're in Manhattan and that things get pricy here, but that price is a little steep, especially for a small, unassuming, quaint, family owned place like this. The grilled sardines were really good. They were cooked just like back in Spain. I only regret not ordering more of them (you get two per serving). The boquerones had some sort of weird, off-taste that I have never tasted before on boquerones. I've had boquerones all over Spain and we make them at home. They have always been marinated in olive oil with sliced garlic (sometimes onion also), and parsley. These were served with a sliced tomato for garnish together with lots of sliced onion. I'm not suggesting that there is only one way to prepare boquerones, but from Asturias to Alicante and Valencia to Cáceres, I have only ever tasted them the one way. If their method had tasted as good, even if it were different, I would be fine with it. But these just tasted off. I would not recommend them to anyone, particularly not anyone familiar with the way we've always experienced them everywhere else. The chicken croquetas were disappointing because they didn't seem, or taste, home-made at all. I have a very strong suspicion that they were pre-made frozen Goya brand or something similar to that. Either way, not authentic in the least. The pan con tomate, on the other hand, was also very good. Like I said, we only tried a small portion of what they offer. I would definitely come back to try other things and have more to base this on, I really want to love this place, but for now, these are my impressions. The locale itself is great. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the place itself has a very authentic feel to it. The bar was pretty quiet when we were there, but it seemed like a great place to watch Spain play in the World Cup or something. It's been around, family owned, since 1974 so I guess they must be doing something right. The bottom line: This is a very authentic feeling, quaint, family owned restaurant. The limited food we sampled was ok but not very high on the authenticity scale. I'm not saying you shouldn't give this place a try, but you might want to manage your expectations if you have had authentic Spanish food. read more

Take a seat at the bar, turn your back to the door (and the view of the street), and you could be anywhere, any time. The stucco ceiling and strings of red lights, the sounds of "Sweet Caroline" in Spanish, and the simple, sturdy food are more transporting than any number of hipster haunts, however hard they try. The ham croquettes were crunchy and creamy, the squid with garlic was tender enough, gritty with paprika, the oil pooling in the dish begging to be sopped up with decidedly NON-artisanal bread. Have a few glasses of the house Rioja. Trot out your high school Spanish and chat with the five guys who stopped in for a post-work drink and greeted the world-weary bartender like she was their long lost Aunt. Finish with flan, not nearly as dense and eggy as it should be, but comforting in its sweet, slippery-ness. A small glass of Fernet so you can face the street again. Next week, Bamonte's! My wife and I had been dying to try this place for a while. The decor inside was intimate and very casual, somewhat reminiscent of what we experienced in Spain. The food was bland and the portions were TINY. We had the garlic shrimp was "ok" the patatas bravas were basically some fried potatoes and some tomato paste, no seasoning no alioli. Pan con tomate was an piece of bread with sliced tomato, not the traditional puréed tomato and toasted bread. Chorizo was the only thing that was good. We left hungry and it's safe to say we're never coming back again. For what we spent? Folks, spend your money elsewhere. read more

The space is a bit small but they went beyond the standard in making sure COVID precautionary measures were in place. I also asked the owner if he saw SJP when she visited, he said yes and many people followed her recommendation -- I also coincidentally ordered the same dish as SJP! Mom and pop Spanish tapa restaurant in Chelsea had amazing food. I tried 5-6 of their tapas and they were all seasoned very well and had great flavor. I also had a bowl of their chicken soup and that was also very good as well. Dishes to try: mushroom tapas, scallops, octopus, and the garlic bread with the tomato on top.
