I had one of those nights at Salinas that you don't really expect going in, but end up thinking about long after. From the second I walked in, the space just hits differently. It feels warm, intimate, almost like you've stepped into someone's beautifully designed home rather than a restaurant. At some point you find yourself under the retractable roof, looking up at the stars in the middle of New York, which is kind of wild in the best way. The food was honestly next level. You can tell there's a real San Sebastián influence behind it. Everything felt precise but still full of flavor and personality. Every dish that came out just kept building on the last. The presentation was beautiful without trying too hard, and the flavors were the kind that make you pause for a second after a bite. Service was exactly what you want it to be. Super attentive, really knowledgeable, but still relaxed. Nothing felt forced or overdone. I also have to mention the cocktails because they deserve it. Whoever is behind the bar knows what they're doing. I had the "Comandante on Vacation" and it was one of those drinks you immediately want another of before you're even halfway through. What I didn't expect was how the energy evolves during the night. There's a DJ, but it's not in your face. It just slowly lifts the whole atmosphere and suddenly dinner turns into something a bit more alive without losing that elevated feel. It's just one of those places where everything works. The setting, the food, the service, the vibe all come together in a way that feels effortless. Definitely one of the more memorable dinners I've had in a while. read more

Salinas is a gorgeous restaurant with the perfect balance of ambiance, lighting and tapas-style items. We arrived just as they opened at 5:30PM for our reservation and noticed that they were also serving a large, private party. We were seated promptly and offered a choice of still, sparkling or tap water and presented our menus. Thankfully the menu at Salinas is pretty straightforward though I noticed that many of the signature tapas dishes you'd expect (e.g. patatas bravas) were quite a bit more expensive than I'm used to - due to the addition of caviar in the dish. I would have rather seen that as an additional add-on vs being made to have it in but perhaps that's just the budget-conscious side of me coming out. As expected from many of these fine-dining establishments the portions are tiny, and I found some of them, specifically the cauliflower and eggplant to be a bit of a letdown. I don't mind a small portion but the eggplant was a bit bland, and the cauliflower looked like something I could whip up in the air fryer in 15 minutes. At least their espresso martini, one of their signature drink items, was delicious and featured some type of dehydrated fruit (strawberry?) on top which I thought was a nice touch. The octopus was also delicious and a must-get if you're here. Finally, we also split a burger for something more substantial but at $30+ I didn't think it was worth the price. You can find a much, much better burger at somewhere like Rolo's for that price! Still, if you're bringing a date or looking for a more classy establishment I think this is a good place to go. Small entryway leading into quaint, dark cubbyholes. Quite a romantic spot. From the host to the servers, service was very consistent. As for food, while the items read well on paper we unfortunately weren't impressed with the quality. The Iberico was so tough, leathery even, that it was very unpleasant to the palate. In my opinion, inedible. Croquetas of the day, once served presented well with its crisp looking exterior but had a very soft interior. It was like potatoes being put through a ricer. Potato Ricing gives you velvety smooth mashed potatoes, but to me a consistency not meant to be in a croquette...way too soft. Sadly, not aware that the croquetas were going to be full on potatoes with hardly any protein, we had another potato dish, the Patatas Bravas Mariners. These were the singular half decent item. The potatoes were crisp, but the aioli overpowered them and the 'caviar'. We've definitely had much better elsewhere. Salina's is an upscale, intimate Spanish restaurant and bar. My friends and I went on a Wednesday night without a reservation and they were fully booked but able to fit us in at a table. We tried a few of their dishes including the pan tumaca, which was basically a tomato or bruschetta-like spread on sour dough. Berenjena - was an eggplant dish which was baked with bread crumbs on top. The croquetas have beef in them and were the most flavorful dish. Pulpo con cenizas is an octopus dish, which I surprisingly really liked. It was prepared very well with a smoky char, and extremely tender. I usually don't like octopus, but this was delicious. And lastly the entraña , which was the hanger steak with a side salad. It was prepared medium and was extremely tender and juicy. For dessert, we had the bread pudding and chocolate flan, which is pictured. I would recommend the chocolate flan, which is a special and tasted more like chocolate mousse, rich and delicious! Only downside was that portions for tapas and apps are small so meant for 2 people to share ideally. Overall a great meal and about $100 per person with drinks. read more

If you want to spend the night trying to flag down a waiter while getting terrible service for a ridiculous price, this is the place for you! The restaurant has a cozy feel that some might like, but it's way too cramped. Two huge trees in the center make it hard to get around, as they're right next to the tables. This forces guests to squeeze past tables that are already too close together, making everything feel even tighter. When we arrived, instead of being seated at our reserved table, we were told to go to the bar, which was really disappointing. The management clearly has trouble running things, leading to awful service. To make matters worse, the staff asked if cross-contamination was a concern for a nut allergy. At the end of our meal, we were questioned about our tip by staff. Given the amount spent and the little service we got mostly having to chase down staff just to get help it felt really inappropriate. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. P.S. They do not skimp on portion size or protein in their dishes. The ambiance is great- there is a dining area with a fireplace that's very cozy, then a middle area with a skylight, bar, and nice violet booth seats, then an outdoor area with wine bottles, a fireplace and a retractable roof so it's comfortable in all weather (garden room). What a hidden gem! Except maybe it was just hidden to me? I've walked by Salinas a million times, but I never thought twice about its unassuming exterior and simple neon blue sign. We wandered in on a rainy Thursday evening, because my bf was craving patatas bravas and Tia Pol was full, and we were taken aback by how large and cute this restaurant was! It was very busy, but we were able to be seated by the bar and then graciously upgraded to a table in the front room when a reservation didn't show up. The bar room was a little noisy, with a live dj, but we looooved the front room, with a quieter ambiance, comfy booths, and a lovely library vibe with the fireplace and bookshelves. Here's what we ordered: - Berenjena: Japanese eggplant with toasted pistachios and pistachio-anchovy aioli. The aioli was delicious but this was probably my least favorite dish. It was still good, but didn't stand out as much as the others. The pistachios were a little too crumby for me. - Bravas Marinas: patatas bravas with a twist! And the twist is caviar so they can justify charging $22 for potatoes. This was a solid dish, with well-cooked potatoes that fulfilled my bf's cravings. However, we both agreed that while the caviar was good at first, the fishy taste doesn't fit that well with the traditional flavor of patatas bravas. Good, but wouldn't order again. - Pulpo con cenizas: get this!!!!! This was probably my favorite dish we got. Well cooked octopus over a bed of black beans and... seaweed? When we were eating, I actually thought it was pasta. Anyways, I loved this dish. - Steak skewer special: I forgot the actual name of the dish because it was on the specials menu, but this was great! Generous portion of meat between three skewers over a bed of flavorful and crispy chickpeas, topped with a bright chimichurri. Delish! - Rossejat rapida: this dish took quite a while to come out, and we were joking that we hoped they forgot it because we were really full by this point, but I'm so glad we got this! First of all, the presentation was beautiful. I've never seen pasta like this, but I actually loved the short spaghetti shape - it was so easy to eat. It doesn't taste like Italian pasta at all, but I loved how unique this dish was, infused with saffron and with little chunks of chicken breast, fava beans, and salty chunks of chorizo. Reminded me a little of paella but with spaghetti instead of rice. I'd probably prefer the flavors of Italian pasta, but this dish is worth trying! I don't love paella so I was happy to try this Spanish pasta. Very happy with our meal at Salinas! If you want delish, elevated tapas in a romantic setting, I'd highly recommend. Our party of r4 was seated in the corner of the small dining room, and after the first round of tapas came out, our server never looked our way again. She repeatedly stopped over to the tables on either side of us and I had a full view of the dining room and kept trying to catch her eye to get a round of drink refills (specifically wanted wine with our mains). I finally had to flag her down via the food runner after the last dishes were placed on the table, and I told him I'd been trying to get our server's attention. (Also the pork belly was gamey and the fat not rendered, making it not of the quality I expect from Salinas). I'm kind of over it and probably won't be back. The potatoes--small, crispy cubes topped with a mayo like sauce and were addictively delicious. Bread was crunchy with a fresh tomato topping also excellent; shrimp & octopus were both OK but could have been more flavorful. Chocolate flan texture is too dense for a classic flan but fun to eat covered in pop rock size pellets if a bit pricey @ $18. We will definitely return to try other items on their menu. The first impression was good- the music was great, we walked through the narrow restaurant viewing various rooms to go and wait at the bar for our table. Once our table was ready, once again the first impression was great. The garden room was very cozy and cute and we had a nice corner table. However, we ended up being blocked out by our neighboring tables and the servers had no way to reach our table at all. We were passing plates over the people sitting adjacent to us. Now onto the food. We were hoping to go for tapas but with me being a pescatarian and my husband not liking seafood, we didn't find a lot of overlap. He went for a burger while I got the tapas. The tapas were quite delicious, and I am likely to blame for the ordering; but it was a very fried meal. I got the croquettes, alcachofas crujientes (fried artichokes), bravas con huevas marinas and Berenjenas. The eggplant was quite delicious with a smoky flavor. Between the bravas and the fried artichokes, I would recommend one or the other since the aioli is similar. The croquetas were tasty but surprisingly liquidy. Dessert options are highly limited. We got the burnt cheesecake. It was okay...on the light side. The plate was warm the cake was cold...I wouldn't order it again. Delicious Spanish tapas restaurant in the heart of Chelsea. There are many different rooms you can dine in with different ambiences, i.e dining room, dining room booth, bar tables, garden room, and sidewalk. We made reservations to sit in garden room and it was absolutely stunning. The patio was half glass covered and the other half was open and it was beautiful lit while still being able to look up and see the stars. We first got seated at the bar to wait for our table. The drinks were delicious as well, the liquor taste wasn't overpowering which is always my favorite. For our dishes, we ordered Pulpo con Cenizas, Bravas con Huevas Marinas, Croquetas, and Arroz Vasco. Pulpo con Cenizas: I've never had octopus before and it was a very pleasure surprise. The octopus was super tender with a light charred smokey flavor. There was shredded seaweed at the bottom which added a special crunch to the dish. Bravas con Huevas Marinas: @angelina_gao favorite dish! The potatoes were cooked to such perfection, creamy but still super outer crispy -- pretty sure there was double fried. The trout and black lumpfish caviar added another node of creaminess that just melted in your mouth and the spicy brava sauce complimented it all. Croquetas: Super crispy with pieces of seafood inside. Aioli was also delicious. Arroz Vasco: Very interesting taste and textures. I never tried bomba rice before and thought it was a type of pasta at first. It tasted like a chinese curry dish to me at first, very smooth and smokey flavor.
