We arrived just before lunch rush and the place was full. We put in our order but had to wait for a table to open up. Good sign! The menudo was quite excellent. Very flavorful broth with tons of tripe. However this was the second place that it was served without hominy. I wonder if that's a "thing" now. I prefer having it with hominy but it was still very good. They offered both a green and red salsa which were both quite good too. I would definitely come back again. I too would give this dish an 8. This restaurant was a perfect stop on the way in from Canada before hitting the hotel. The service was spectacular. The food was delicious, quesabirria for the win, delicious and only $8.50 for 2. We live in Seattle and I've tried different places in Renton, Kent and Burien and I have to say the selection/flavors of the meat isn't easy to find all at one spot. They had quite a bit to offer. The parking lot is located on the premises of the store, so there are many people coming and going. I ordered two each of the recommended pork taco and beef taco in the store. Crazy good meat options for your tacos. Hubby said the stand outs were the birria de res because it is super flavorful and moist. He liked the shrimp too. The only recommendation he made is to have the tortilla a little more browned. I loved my adobada (marinated pork) because it was grilled more and gave it a nice crispiness and char but it does mean it becomes chewier and drier. I used the lime and green sauce to make up for it and was very pleased. I enjoyed the carnitas and chicken too. Normally I drown my tacos with sauce but with these tacos you don't need to. Simple but good service. We were met at the register by a friendly smile and greeting. Followed by quick food delivery by a friendly male server. Even the patrons were nice, friendly and courteous. A great Mexican food pitstop while driving on I-5. We discovered this place while hungry and tired heading back from a Canada trip, and it is a gem. The tacos were generously topped with meats and greens (we wished there were more onions though) and their asada fries were made so well. The asada fries tasted oddly fresh and light with the juicy tomato topping and minimally oily fries. I believe there was also a bit of cotija cheese sprinkled on top. Sadly, must leave a well deserved 1 star review. Food is fine normally and I have been a customer for years. However, I ordered online (as I always do) for the food truck in Anacortes. My order was accepted, my credit card was charged. It said order ready in 20 minutes. I drove to the truck and to my surprise, it WAS NOT THERE! Called and they said "oh ya, they left early". On our way to our campsite at Deception Pass State Park, we stopped by this delightful taco place recommended by one of my coworkers. Tacos Tecalitlan has both indoor and outdoor seating areas with plenty of parking. Very open and well ventilated outdoor area and the indoor area was nicely air conditioned. Staff were friendly and smiles were freely given. Love it. I am not hugely into Mexican food in general and I certainly cannot claim to know a lot about it, either. All I know is that when I go to California, my friends there take me to amazing Mexican food places and their tacos are absolutely amazing. Was super excited to check out Tacos Tecalitlan for their $1.95 USD tacos. They have two other locations (Bellingham and Anacortes), both of which are food trucks. We dropped in on a packed Saturday for lunch (12:15pm). There's a takeout window right out front, otherwise order and pay first then grab a table. Menu consists of taco, torta, burrito, quesi-birria, quesadilla, sopes, gorditas, tostadas, mulitas, tamales, flautas and soups. Two salsas are provided on the table (a mild salsa verde and fiery, smoky salsa roja). - Agua de jamaica ($4.00 USD large) - refreshing with a touch of lime and cinnamon notes. - Quesi-birria ($7.50 USD) - consome was delicious on its own, as was the birria meat. Cheese was mild. Would get this baby again. - 7x Tacos ($1.95 USD) - asada (beef), adobada (marinated pork), lengua (tongue), cabeza (cheek), carnitas (steamed pork), chorizo (pork sausage) and birria de res (beef stew). Lengua was a little pricier (~$2.95 USD). Best were the beef, marinated pork and pork sausage. The beef tongue was tender (but bland), steamed pork slightly salty and beef stew a touch dry. We were lured into Tacos Tecalitlan by the promise of the best tacos in Western Washington (and to be honest, the fact that no other restaurant in Burlington caught our eyes). We were not disappointed, at least not with the tacos! 6x Tacos ($1.95 Each) - 2x Chicharrones, 1x Asada, 1x Carnitas, 1x Chorizo, 1x Adobado. Starting with the chicharrones - these were fatty, with a delicate crisp and some meat. These were declared the best tacos in Western Washington and I can definitely see why. The carnitas were my favorite - fried to a crisp with some meaty portions and yet still retaining moisture. The adobado was juicy and the fruity marinade taste really came through. The asada was pretty normal, good quality but nothing outstanding. The chorizo fell to the bottom of my rankings - while the marinade and taste was good (also quite fruity and savory), and it retained a slight crisp from the flat top, the meat itself was quite dry. Each taco comes with two corn tortillas, and there's also some sliced radishes, blistered jalapenos, and caramelized onions on the side. Watch out-the heat on the jalapenos varies. One was very mild and the next was hot hot hot. Carnitas Burrito w/ Carnitas ($6.50) - I don't recommend the burritos here. They are super greasy, filled with cabbage for some reason that adds too much bitterness, and worst of all, aren't even wrapped correctly. The tortilla they use is so small that it doesn't wrap all the way around the ingredients, leaving a slit on one side. Why even bother calling this a burrito? Torta w/ Chicharrones ($6.50) - If you want the best vehicle for chicharrones, I would recommend the taco since the meat wilts in between the two bread halves. There is tomato, shredded cabbage, avocado and onion to help round things out. The bread is soft and holds up well. Tamale ($2.50) - Absolutely delicious. The masa is moist and absorbs the pork flavor in the middle. The pork itself is tender and perfectly seasoned. One of the common pitfalls is having the pork center to be dry and stringy but this was perfect. The wait can take a bit, but they try to make it efficient by having a outside walk up window for take out orders and an inside counter. If you order to eat in, they give you a number and bring the food out to your table. There are two salsas on the tables. The red is hotter, while the green is milder. If you order to-go, they automatically give you a couple of containers of each. I definitely recommend eating at Tacos Tecalitlan - just stick with the tacos and you won't be disappointed. read more
