Mexican food isn't something that is usually first on my list of cuisines that I choose. Yes yes I know. It just isn't. It's not that I hate it, it's just not something I jump up and say let's eat it. That's just how I am. Mainly because I have yet to find an authentic Mexican restaurant or what I feel is one. Well this one does. All the employees are super friendly and welcome you into the restaurant with a big smile on their faces. I always look for that as a first. No one likes a miserable server. Next the menu is massive! I usually order the same things but trust me you won't be disappointed with what they have to offer. And everything that I've tried, that my kids and husband have tried all look delicious! I usually order the street tacos with the pork. It's moist with lots of flavor and not spicy. This momma cannot handle spice. LOL but the tacos are ordered per taco. Make sure you look at how you're ordering them otherwise you may end up with just 1 taco. My youngest son always gets their chicken quesadilla. And he loves it. It's huge! And he orders it with refried beans and rice. And yes he eats it all. They don't skimp on the chicken. My oldest who is 21 usually orders a burrito. He has ordered their fajitas. But loves their burritos. He says they don't skimp on any of the ingredients and loves it. And my husband has had their quesadillas, tacos and burritos. All great according to him. Usually if we have time - and want good Mexican food this is the place we go. Also they are lightning quick with your order. When we place our order, we've never waited more than 15 mins to get our food. Another note, I order a street taco with no cilantro (sorry I just don't like it) and the tacos came with it on it. No biggie, I just picked it off. The server apologized and brought over new ones made correctly! Now that is customer service. This restaurant is essentially the only place we will go for good authentic Mexican food. Some outa staters have given this little restaurant, Tacos Los Primos, what I think, are unfair and harsh reviews. They say the food tastes like "Californian" Mexican food. I strongly disagree! And here is why... First of all, and most importantly, it's not like I don't have experience eating Mexican food. I have eaten at one other Mexican restaurant, many years ago. I think it was called "Casa Bonita." Oh, and one time I got a taco at "Jack in the Box!" But, have to say that I think the Mexican food at Tocos Los Primos, tastes like Delicious! Authentic! Oklahoman! Mexican food!! There is more than just the menu and the "yellow cheese vs white cheese" argument that make this a legitimate Oklahoman Mexican restaurant. A repurposed failed Pizza Hut building, worn from time, with bathroom doors branded from the greasy black hand prints of all the hard-working individuals that come here for lunch, to get a good meal at a fair price. The air conditioner may or may not be working. Other characteristics of a good Oklahoman Mexican restaurant. Food, drink, etc. Mexican bottled drinks are on display in an old store display cooler from the 80's. You wonder who else has eaten from your chip bowl today? Is the salsa recycled? I hope they take credit cards! But, back to the menu. Their menu is universal. What do I mean? Take one with you, put it in the glove box and at the next Oklahoman Mexican restaurant you dine at, take it in and use it. Other than the prices, I guarantee it will work. More proof Tacos Los Primos' is a straight up Oklahoman Mexican Restaurant. **************************** All this banter aside. This is a good Oklahoman Mexican Food restaurant. The service is fast and friendly. You feel welcomed. Seat yourself. Chips, good salsa and queso arrive promptly. Very good hotter salsa is available. The restaurant is staffed and conditioned to meet your needs if you are on a limited lunch hour. The air conditioner is working, the seating is comfortable and the chips and salsa are pristine. They have a great lunch menu. And they take credit cards. Food wise. My wife had the taco salad. Good to average, but the beef could have used a little more seasoning, typical of an Oklahoman Mexican restaurant. I went with #14 Pollo Jalisco. Two thin grilled chicken breasts, queso and a mound of chorizo, sides of refried beans, rice and a bonus of charro beans. I think the refried beans maybe were a mistake in the kitchen. Two servings of beans? But the refried were better than the charro beans. The Chorizo was the good, lots of flavor! My opinion...I would say this is the second best Oklahoman Mexican Food restaurant in Stillwater. I would have no problem recommending it to a friend. And back to the fly over/drive through statement. If you are on I-40 and are looking for authentic, left coast, Mexican food, pull into Loves Travel Stop or Pilot/Flying J. This place was quite refreshing for Stillwater's Mexican food scene. They have things on their menu that I haven't seen offered at other Mexican restaurants in town. I am not sure if it is family owned and operated but I felt the love that this staff put into their service and food. They were helpful and very kind. They had plastic screens put out between each table for COVID safety purposes which was a plus! The bathrooms were very clean and well kept. They had TV's mounted on the walls for watching sports. They also have a salsa bar with various options. Chips, salsa, and yellow cheese sauce is complimentary. You do not have to order it. Not sure what some of the other reviews are talking about. My food was delicious. I had carnitas gordita and the meat was juicy and tender. They packed it full of meat; there was no cheap portioning! The corn tortilla was flavorful and had a nice crunch to softness ratio. The price is also incredibly reasonable for how much food my husband and I got. We were both pleased with this business. I feel like maybe we missed out on so much here, because all of the reviews are so great. We wanted chips, salsa and queso, but did not order it. We thought chips would come with our meal. Our mistake for sure. We saw what looked like a salsa bar, but it was pushed over to the wall and had things piled on it. It didn't look like it was open. All of our choices were good. They were definitely authentic, but the flavor was missing. We were so disappointed. I'm still giving this four stars, because maybe all that went wrong was our fault. The language barrier, the distance because of COVID...communication was just totally lacking. We are going to try again, because the people seemed so nice and accommodating. I was in town for a conference at the university and decided to venture out into the community for lunch. I asked the waitress what was good and what I should order and she said she couldn't recommend anything because she doesn't eat here! I almost got up and left, but decided I would still give them a try. I ordered the lunch fajitas. First, the chips were cold and tasted stale. The queso was chunky, but the salsa was pretty good. They brought me my food, but no plate to build my fajitas! I had to wait several minutes before the waitress even noticed I was trying to get her attention. The chicken was over cooked and rubbery, but the peppers and onions were good. The portion size was excellent for the price, but the quality and service did not justify what I spent. We had my son's graduation party catered on May 7th. Their communication, and ordering process was wonderful. Ariana sit down with me and made sure that she had everything I wanted in my order written down. She worked with me on the price and gave us a great deal! They were prompt when delivering. There's a mix out about me paying with a card and I wasn't able to pay when they dropped it off. They were so sweet to tell us just to come in on Monday when they were open again and pay! Love that they are willing to work on an honor System like that and we were there first thing to pay our bill. Everyone loved the food, and he thought it was a lot of food for the price. We have a lack of decent Mexican restaurants here in Stillwater. Salsa was very bland, Chile verde same, and my son said the taquitos from Walmart deli were better than these Service was spotty, no refills and a little pricey for what you got. I'm from the west coast, I've grown up eating authentic mexican food. I can easily say Tacos Los Primos is as close to authentic as you can get out here. They serve a complimentary queso and salsa with their chips, the entire menu is priced extremely reasonably and their lunch/dinner specials are fantastic! Can't recommend this place enough it has the homemade family run authentic food you just don't get at TexMex places. All the meats are authentic and taste like they do at home. We were excited to find Tacos Los Primos and were thrilled with the quality and taste of the meals on our first order. Tender, well seasoned meats, creamy and tasty queso blanco, nachos that are not soggy. I order the nachos ricos without green sauce/jalapenos every time, as I cannot tolerate any level of heat. However, in the ten times we have ordered and brought the food home, my nachos have been right exactly twice. One time, I opened the nachos up to see simply chips with chopped meat. Most often they leave the queso blanco off - the BEST part! And at least half the time, including tonight, they cover it in green sauce. Authentic street tacos at this new restaurant, close to Boomer Lake! We ordered carne asada street tacos, torta, and burrito. Hoping they will be successful and be able to add a few items to menu (horchata ) and maybe lower price a little. $2.25 for a 3 bite street taco is a little high (compared to $1 for the same thing in Liberal, KS), but totally understand the need to charge more right now. I went through the drive-through recently at lunch and ordered a carne asada quesadilla. It was about $10 total, and that was with a large fountain drink, too. The quesadilla was like one big tortilla folded in half, not a tortilla, filling and then another tortilla. It was decent sized for lunch, I wish that It had come with some beans and rice or another side though. I didn't see an option for sides on the menu board outside, but they may offer them. My meal came out fairly quickly and it was hot and fresh. The quesadilla was delicious! The carne asada was so tender and seasoned perfectly, not too spicy and not bland, the tortilla was stuffed with meat, too. There was shredded cheese and veggies, including fresh avocado slices. I wanted more when I finished! I can't wait to try the street tacos, and the 'Mexican' Chicken Soup which they have on the weekends! A friend told me they serve Menudo on the weekends, too, if you're *really* looking for authentic dishes! Overall I hope that they expand their menu, there weren't a ton of options, and I really wish you could get sides. I do not know how they serve dinners or dishes in the dining room though-it looks like they have chips/salsa..so they probably offer sides. I don't recall seeing an option to get chips/salsa/guacamole/queso on the drive through menu either, which would be nice. I feel like the prices were a smidge high from what I saw, but not a deal breaker at all. Oh, they offer fountain drinks and also Mexican soda, such as Mexica Coke in bottles, too. I will return for sure to try everything else. They are a fantastic addition to town: delicious, authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices with a drive through, which I love.
