If you're a drunk college kid with 0 taste. Sure this place is for you. But otherwise, hell nah the food here is awful. What is going on with that rice rubbery bland garbage. Taco BELL is better than this place and that's real sad. The only food I enjoyed was the chips and salsa. But how can you mess that up? Since moving to Stillwater, I'd been warned by locals to go to Eskimo Joe's, but avoid Mexico Joe's. Since I've never been impressed by the food at Eskimo's, avoiding Mexico Joe's was pretty easy. But then my friend came in from out of state and really wanted a frozen margarita, and Google swore they had good ones. Against my better judgment, we went. I'll give credit where it's due, the frozen margaritas are actually really good. Swirled, icy, a little on the weak side, but still easily the best thing on the menu. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The food was a big disappointment. It took forever just to order and then even longer for the food to finally come out. When it did arrive, it was hot but bland. Honestly, if you asked a British person to make Mexican food, this is probably what you'd get. Not just lacking spice, it was devoid of any real flavor at all. My friend and I both said we could've made better Mexican food ourselves after a ten minute Walmart run. Went on an adventure and ended up in Stillwater where we wanted to check out Eskimo Joe's, but there was a 45-hour wait. I would wait 10-20 minutes but NOT an hour. So we opted to try their other place Mexico joes. Having two Mexican aunts am very familiar with the cousins. Nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. our waiter William was very attentive and friendly event making suggestions. The menu was varied with great choices. I have never heard of Mexi beef before. I order it and it was very tasty my two tacos. The other dish was chicken fajitas which also were good. You get chips and several sauces. We ordered a side of guacamole (but it was rather bland and it had lettuce in it) it might have been just smashed avocado, not sure. But I love avocado so not a big deal. Would I recommend yes. Will I go back yes. If it wasn't an hour and a half drive I would have had a margarita. read more

While the atmosphere is fun and festive, the food is an insult to Mexican or Tex-Mex. I judge a good Mexican food place on how they do the basics: salsa, chips, rice, and other common menu items. The salsa was very basic and the rice was just plain rice, not Mexican rice. Our chicken fajitas were fine, but not great. The chicken, bacon ranch quesadilla did not seem to have much, if any, bacon or ranch. If we are ever in Stillwater again, we will definitely visit one of the many other good restaurants there. read more

In town working and the front desk at the hotel suggested Mexico Joe's especially for the chips and salsa. I went before 5 to beat the crowd. I found an open spot at the bar and ordered a burbon and coke. Bartender brought me chips and salsa and suggested the chicken bacon quesadilla. Chips and salsa were mediocre at best. Chips seemed to be homemade, but the salsa was bland. The quesadilla came out, and that was great. My expectation after the salsa was low, so when the quesadilla came out, i cautiously took a bite. That was an impressive quesadilla. The chicken was tender, and the cheese and bacon were plentiful. It had an incredible cheese pull. If I were to recommend this place, it would be for that, not the chips and salsa. My Bourbon and coke was strong! Jody The Bartender was super friendly and engaging. She had been there since opening and was having to close bc someone called in, but she kept a smile on her face and a positive attitude. During our last day of Special Olympics in Stillwater, we decided to try Joe's for lunch on our way back home, and I'm glad we did. Noontime found a bit of a wait, but not too long. We were seated in a back corner, which was fine with me, somewhat away from a lot of the noise and bustle. Our server got drink orders in left us to peruse the menu. Not overly large, it still offers a good assorment to choose from. The Kid went with the Taco Salad, The Wife had the lunchtime beef fajitas, and I went with 2 beef enchiladas and a taco. We started with a bowl of a really flavorful yellow queso. The chips could have been more fresh, as The Wife commented they seemed a little stale, but it was humid that day, and that might have contributed a bit. Still... fresh chips are kind of a necessary in a mexican restaurant. Food arrived very quickly and we proceeded to dig in. The Kid's taco salad was outstanding on every point, in spite of using cabbage instead of lettuce. I love cabbage, but cooked, with corned beef.... not raw. But still, it worked, and the couple of bites I had were very good. The Wife's fajitas were solid, if undramatic, meaning that they came on a normal plate, not the near melting hot cast iron plate some places use. That detracted nothing from either the taste of the texture, both being on point. The beef enchiladas and taco I had were all expertly done. Taco meat was seasoned well and plentiful, and the birria filling in the enchiladas was tender and altogether nicely done. The beans were a respectably brown in color (not the pale gray that I hate), possessing a rich flavor. But the rice.... oh baby, that stuff is good. I could eat a plate full of that if you threw in some taco meat. As you would expect being Eskimo Joe's other brother, the place is kitschy, cool and upbeat. Prices are MUCH less than comparable joints in T-town with the food being as good or better than most. I sincerely with Mexico Joe's had a Tulsa option. read more

Children from a visiting baseball team From Kansas spent over an hour because left and they were still sitting in the bar as the coaches and parents were drinking Margaritas and what looked like shots as the kids 14 and under in a 21 and over bar area sat around with nothing. We met my father and stepmother here for his 80th birthday. It was his choice and is one of his favorite places in Stillwater. We brought a large bouquet of birthday balloons and the staff played along, hiding them until the perfect time. I wish I could remember the names of all the great staff members who helped us and took pictures. We had the Cadillac Queso and the White Queso. I preferred the Cadillac but my Dad doesn't like all the extras so the white one suited him best. You can't go wrong with either choice. The salsa that comes with the chips is delicious though I'll warn you that the spicy one is as advertised; it's spicy!!! I got the taco and two enchiladas, one beef and one chicken. It was a delicious combination of all the things I enjoy. It was certainly more than I needed to eat and left full and satisfied. My husband had the mild Mex Cadillac enchilada plate. It was more than he could finish and he said the chicken was juicy and well flavored. He's not a spicy fan and is always worried about things being too spicy. My stepmom ordered the taco salad which is her regular meal and cleaned her plate which is something I don't see very often and is all you need to know. I don't remember what my Dad ordered but he managed to make a big dent in his meal but took the rest home as a special treat for the next day. If you find yourself in Stillwater this is a great option. I think it's better than the campus options simply from a parking perspective. There is a large bar area and patio, as well as the casual dining area we sat on. I think it's a place that could make everyone happy. My girls and I came to try this place out because of a school thing. They bring three types of salsa to the table, Fresca type of salsa, mild, and hot. The Fresca one isn't hot, it's more of just the ingredients of a salsa without the peppers, the mild tasted like marinara sauce, and the hot tasted disgusting, I can't pinpoint the pepper they use for it, but it makes the salsa takes gross. This is my personal opinion of the food's flavor. The food did not taste great. The rice was hard and a little on the thick side, the beans were ok, and the flautas were ok, not bad, not great, just ok. The service was slow I would say. There didn't seem to be a lot of guests, but our food took a long time to come out. Overall our experience was mediocre and probably won't be coming back. read more

We were in town for an admitted student's day. The kids asked one presenter if there was good Mexican food in town and the answer was yes followed by a list of favorite places. Mexico Joe's wasn't on the list, we should have taken the advice and gone elsewhere. The food is bland, the queso is watery, my son thought his chicken chimi tasted off, just kind of yuck. I went here a couple nights ago and had a terrible experience with my server. She was probably around 45 years old and right off the bat called my 70+ year old grandma something similar to "baby doll". Like, excuse me, she could be your mother. Since when is this appropriate? And one of the kids who was in my party is very socially anxious and their parent still has to order for them, the gosh darn server said something like "Hey, you better talk to me, your old enough to order." EXCUSE ME?!?!? The poor kid was peer pressured into ordering her own food but I know it made her uncomfortable. The food itself was fine, but it always seems to disappoint me. It was really crowded, and of course the server had to put us in a booth in a really boxed-in corner when the other half of the restaurant was perfectly spaced out and had enough room. Stopped in for a quick lunch with friends that I hadn't seen in a while. We were seated fast and chips and salsa and drinks appeared quickly. The sour cream enchilada with rice and black beans was better than average. Others at the table had the cheese enchilada (with Charo beans) and the pollo bowls. I would probably order a bowl next time. Our server was very attentive with drink refills. Always want to eat a Joe's when we're in Stillwater. And Eskimo Joes was packed so we came here. Not nearly as packed. Customer service was friendly but extremely slow. It was nice so we are outside on the patio. Everything is clean. Even though our service was slower than usual, we still got our food at a good pace and our meals weren't cold. We were also offered free queso for the inconvenience of slow service. No real complaints. Food was good, drinks were amazing and they really do care if you're happy. My husband got the chicken quesadilla and I got the chicken sour cream enchilada with refried beans and rice. They gave us 3 different kinds of salsa. Really tame, kinda wild and super wild. Really hot but so tasty. They bend over backwards for you to make sure you're. We will be back for sure! I have no problems giving them 4 stars! read more

We were in the area for work and love Mexican food, so we thought we would check it out. There's a lot of good choices on the menu. Everything came with a choice, so we asked our waiter for his favorites. The special of the day was an enchilada taco (basically a soft taco made like an enchilada with a folded tortilla and sauce on top). Mexico Joe's may have the best salsa I've ever had! I love to mix the two salsas they serve together and I'd also recommend asking for their spicy salsa. It is hot but also great to add to the mix. I'd also recommend the burrito enchiladas and the chimichanga as both are delicious. The vibe at MJ's is also super cool. You really can't go wrong. read more
