I am giving this place 5 stars because it deserves it. This is my first time here and I was not sure what to expect. I was impressed that the place was well kept and clean, they have a soda and agua Fresca bar which is very rare now awadays and excellent. I ordered a torta and it was flavorful. They also have a salsa bar and includes beans, grilled onions with peppers and salads and all the other goodies for tacos. Lastly the staff is very nice and welcoming and to prices are decent. If you're anywhere near Valley Boulevard by the 605, do yourself a favor and stop at this location. I'm not 100% sure if it's technically La Puente, but I am sure it's one of the best taco spots in the San Gabriel Valley. First off -- the serve-yourself agua frescas and full salsa bar (yes, with refried beans!) already put this place ahead of the game. Everything is fresh, stocked, and clean. The staff? Genuinely friendly and welcoming -- which makes a difference. What really surprised me is how spotless the place is. It's in a predominantly working-class industrial stretch near some strip clubs and other eateries... and somehow it stands out in the best way. Bright, clean, organized -- you can tell they care. The tacos and tortas are solid, flavorful, and hit the spot every time. No gimmicks -- just good food done right. The place is large , clean and plenty of seating and parking. I've been here before and to other locations . The food is good. Nothing wow ... this time I ordered a Lengua super burrito. Very little meat. All mostly bean and cheese. It had rice , sour cream and avivado, but all I tasted was the Beans and cheese. My wife and kids had carne asada mulitas. They really liked them ! One of my favorite taco places because of how everything is not only packaged to go, but also the food is pretty good. Orders are accurate, staff is friendly, and prices are affordable. Mexican fast food type place that serves tacos, burritos and mulitas. I say fast food, because the vibe here feels like that. The service models is kind of the same and I really think that it was a converted In-N-Out. I saw the spot because it was on the way to a hospital. I needed to get to down the street. I was hungry, so this looked like a good place where I can grab a quick bite. When I came in, I went to the counter and was greeted by some friendly folks. Ordering was easy, and I grabbed the table to wait for my food. As with most new Mexican or taco spots I go to, I got my usual, which is a mulita and two tacos. Heck, they even have a super mulita here which included guacamole and sour cream. Their toppings bar consisted of individually wrapped portions of the onions and cilantro, as well as the salsa and lemons. There were also cups for some beans and grilled onions. I think those were free...if they weren't I truly apologize. But it seemed like you were able to grab them because it's located at the bar. I did enjoy that small side of beans. I thought the food was good. And honestly in terms of fast food, I might prefer something like this place over stuff like the major chains the US has. This location in particular, although great customer serivce, it was very clean inside and the beans, yes bomb free beans, condiments packed in great to-go containers! So I was thinking how bad can this place be. Clean, location, friendly customer service. I've only had tacos here and they were "ok". Today was a bit different because I wanted to have a burrito before seeing the dentist this afternoon. I ordered the $12 super burrito. It seemed like I was only getting asada every 3rd bite and watery guacamole and watery sour cream on every bite. And worst of all the tortilla was paper thin. It was falling all over the place. I've driven by this location and always wondered how the food is. We'll I decided to give 'em a try and it was better than I thought. The first time, I had the al pastor and pollo tacos. The green sauce was nice and had just a tiny kick to it, which is enough for me. They have lemons and salsa all prepackaged at the counter for you to help yourself. They also have beans and cups for them - I did not try the beans, it did not look appetizing lol The meat is nicely flavored, but the chicken was slightly dry. I have since gone back several times to try other items - the sope, burritos, and other meats. The Super burrito was a bust - mostly filled with beans and rice and not a lot or meat. Overall, the food is not bad, the service is quick. It conveniently right off the 605 so I can exit, get food and jump back on the freeway. So we have family members that came here a few months after it opened and hated it but we have other family members that love the self serve beans that are on the counter with the other trimmings; like onion, cilantro, lemon and sauces. My wife and I decided to try it for ourselves. And i have to say that for being Taco Tuesday with tacos at $1.69 we were very pleased. I had the buche and cabeza tacos while my wife had the chorizo and carnitas taco. She likes her carnitas a little more crispy and shredded while theirs were cut into small cubes but still not bad. Interestingly, they have a very unique way of covering their plates with a plastic cover that looks like a... well hair net. Makes ordering for orders to go very easy to see and distribute. The sauces: green and red, onion and cilantro were all in packaged bags. Again, easy to take home. I tried their green and it was a little hot for me and the wife but we are not huge spicy salsa eaters. I'll try the red sauce next time. The beans was the reason I wanted to try this place. One of my fav taco places does something similar. These were much thicker but they were still pretty good. This place will definitely get into our Taco Tuesday routine!!! read more

I was invited to revisit this location, and honestly, it's in a convenient spot for me, and I really do want to like this location. I gave it another try. Cynthia, my cashier was very professional and courteous. She made sure my order was right, and gave me her recommendations. This time I got 3 sopes, al pastor, and a large horchata. They loaded up with lots of lettuce, onions and cilantro, limes, pickled jalapenos and carrots, and salsa verse and salsa rojo. Horchata was great. Loved all the sides conveniently packed. They know how to do Mexican drive thru. Al pastor was much better this time, and the crema on top was a good addition. The "bread" part of the sope was a bit on the hard side. I prefer King Taco sopes more in terms of the carb, if comparing similar fast food type Mexican chains. Value and quantity is great. Concienience and service was great. Food was okay. Tacos Gavilan is one of my favorite local places to check out! My favorite of all their meat choices is the Adobada meat. It is very tender and juicy! I really like the fact that they have a self serve salsa bar along with complimentary pinto beans. The only down side of this location is getting in and out of the parking as it is located on a corner near a railroad crossing. The intersection tends to get pretty packed during high traffic hours. read more

Ordered vis postmates since me and 2 of my coworkers were craving mulitas and tacos. In retrospect, I wish I had gone with my initial idea of ordering sushi. We ordered a sope, mulitas and tacos. Meat for mulitas included asada, lengua, and carnitas. They ordered tacos - buche and al pastor. I believe my coworker ordered an asada sope. When we got our food, it was not good. They put all of our orders together so we had a hard time identifying the meat. We had to open the mulitas to see what kind of meat was inside. You would think that during this time of covid, they would separate the orders. I seriously hope they did not think that I was going to eat 5 mulitas, sope and tacos all by myself. The food was just thrown into containers and it looked very messy. We ordered a couple of super mulitas which was supposed to include sour cream and avocado. Instead, we got one mulita with a smear of sour cream and the other one with a smear of avocado. One of my coworkers is allergic to avocado and of course they put the super mulita with the smear of guacamole next to hers. The mulitas claim to be made with hand made tortillas and my coworker who is Mexican said it did not look like it was hand made.
