Having a place where almost everything tastes home made and they're willing to customize any order is the best. The place is clean, the workers are friendly and the drinks have free refills... all that plus they have bomb food... My go-to meal for lunch is the asada burrito with red salsa and nacho cheese....with 2-3 cups of appetizer beans... The go-to meal for breakfast is the huevos rancheros... just like my momma used to make me.. Today, 3pm, I was feeling like having breakfast... asked if it was too late for breakfast and they said no. First time have i have the ham and egg breakfast torta, added salchicha(hit dogs) and I think I have a new go-to meal at this place. It was delicious. This was a cheesy pastor super burrito. It was large and in charge! I came in about 11:00am for lunch and ordered the Al Pastor Super Burrito, it was larger than I thought it was going to be. I should've stopped and saved some for later, I was so good I kept eating it. The Pastor tasted like marinated meat from the grill, I don't think it's shaved, but it was still seasoned well. It's a burrito I would mind eating again. My order came quick. I also had Horchata to drink. Their horchata is pretty good, similar to handmade horchata; I'm not sure if it's handmade but the horchata flavors were good. read more

The tacos de pastor were good but i would definitely order two sopes instead of 1 taco and 1 sope. The Jamaica was flavorful and cold. My friend had quesadilla de asada and 4 tacos de asada and killed it. I live the individual packets of lemon, cilantro, onions and salsa. I love the big chunk of fresh avocado that was unreluctantly squeezed into these items. You can choose the meat filling, which I went for beef. They're VERY FLAVORFUL so I definitely recommend eating them with the side avocado. Cheese is extremely nice AND FLAVORFUL too! They made absolute paradise nachos. After a long night out I was craving some tacos. I've been to this place a few times and it does not disappoint! There is a parking lot and it is very easy to find parking! The line is usually short or non existent later in the nights which is nice! I'm not sure how it is during the day but this place is amazing for a late night meal! The horchata here is so delicious! I love coming here because right when you walk in it's the cashier and you can order right away as much tacos as you want or a burrito, etc. for me I've always ordered tacos. The most I've ever ate was 4. The cashiers usually understand English so feel free to speak in English. Usually my bf orders so he speaks Spanish to them. I get steak or carne asada and they make it super quick. It comes out on the other side so you have to go there to pick it up. Then if you're eating there or taking it to go really depends on how you're making your taco. They do have to go containers already available outside so you don't even have to ask them for anything in case you're taking it. But usually we eat them there so we just layer as much onions and cilantro son top of our meat as we want. That's why I love coming here because they're not stingy with their things. Compared to other places I know!! You can put as much as you want and they won't get mad, just be careful to not spill and make a mess because no one wants that. Also their horchata is bomb!!! Here's why: Tacos 3/5 The taco meat has little to no seasoning and are on the dry side. The quality of the meat isn't all that great and with the lack of good tasting marinate, taste pretty basic. What makes these tacos bearable to consume are the sides (spicy salsa and lime). Without the sides these tacos aren't very good tasting. Tacos are almost two dollars each and not worth the price. Salsa Bar 3/5 All the items in the salsa bar are inexpensive and the variety isn't all that great. They don't have cucumbers anymore (guessing because of the price)so all you get are beans, green or red salsa, jalapeños, lettuce, lime, and pickled carrots. All inexpensive items so you are not necessarily getting a deal with this "free salsa bar". Tortas 0/5 DISGUSTING! I have tried the regular and Cubano and they are both gross. The cubano being the worst tasting because they cut a hot dog wiener and put it in your sandwich raw. They put a thinly cut slab of beef (doesn't taste like beef not sure) and a thin piece of ham. There is only half a slice of cheese and hardly any beans.They add a lot of lettuce and hardly any meat. Super gross I do not recommend this to anyone. Overall this place is for a drunk night out where anything you eat tastes edible. Unfortunately I do not recommend this place to anyone that plans on eating a couple tacos sober. The food here is bland or disgusting (depending on what you order). Stopped by Saturday night with my man & his brother to get some much needed recovery food after a night of drinks. I ordered a super mulita with carne asada and 2 tacos (1 chicken & 1 al pastor) My man got himself a burrito and a mulita, & his brother also got a burrito and a mulita. Our orders came out super delicious and in a timely manner. While our order was being prepared we helped ourselves to some limes, carrots, & sauces in the sauce area & they have beans you can take too at no extra charge like other places. The horchata was BOMB. Not sure if it's homemade or not, but it was delicious. Not watered down or anything. The brc was good but also hard to get wrong. The chicken quesadilla was good, no skimping on chicken and didn't get soggy on the drive from restaurant to my house. I am knocking a star off just because the carne asada tacos were SO greasy....I can handle grease..but these we are dripping. Really good tacos al pastor. Honestly I ate here almost daily for months and don't regret it. One of the best tacos I've had in LA especially for the price. Their horchata is one of the best too. Not too sweet or watery. They let you get however many peppers, beans, and cilantro onion you want which is a plus. They're affordable too which is why we came here a lot. Decided to stop by this place on a whim, it was around 1 am but the place was well-lit and there was a security guard patrolling. I decided to order a quesadilla el pastor. After about 5 minutes, my order came out and as I got the food I noticed they had a fix-ins bar with lettuce, pintoes, salsa, jalapenoes, and others. I proceeded to pile lettuce and got a couple pieces of jalapenoes, as well as a small bowl of pintoes. By the way this meal only cost me $5.99. The pintoes tasted good, and the jalapenoes were spicy, oily, and greasy, which were absolutely perfect. I then took a bite out of my quesadilla which was also greasy and fatty. Yes, they used pork fats like what one would find in a asado siopao. It was so good especially the fact that it is so juicy and very delicious! I got a refill of pintoes, and a couple more jalapenoes as I slowly ate my quesadilla. All this time, more customers were coming in but I also noticed the security guard kept on using the facilities. There were some customers getting food to go and they are handed a plastic bag and they fill that up with lettuce and other fixins! Colleague introduced me to this place. Really good Al Pastor tacos. We have been to this restaurant for lunch twice this past week. I tried all 8 varieties of their tacos during my first visit and had 6 Al Pastor (best amongst their 8 on the menu) tacos and 2 chicken tacos on my second visit today. Good: 1) Free refills on Horchata. (This is different than the other 8 or 10 other Mexican joints in HP) 2) Salsa bar at the end of pickup line. 3) Extremely delicious Al Pastor tacos 4) During idle time at the counter instead of texting/tweeting (whatever it is that kids do these days) employees were cleaning floors and tables. This rates high in my book for some reason? 5) Ample seating and parking. (This is an issue at the other Mexican joints in HP) 6) Employee started preparing tacos as we were placing our order 7) Meat was being cooked fresh after we placed our order. And as I pulled my mouth away from the burritio I pulled out about 6 inches of pure uneddible gristle. Ofc half my burritio was now on the floor. This was not the kind of gristle where it's a little string on a chunk of beef. This was litterally the endcap on a huge chunk of beef. I was starving and spit this piece on the right into a trash can. I saw a nice piece of meat below that and OMFG another huge peice of gristle. I dont wanna say your employees are racist but since they make the burritos for you as you stand there waiting, I mean clearly this was on purpose. They didnt even bother to try to cut it and hide it or maybe it was so tuff they tried and cld not. So now we are working till 8pm starving and very unhappy. It's 3am. I'm hungry, worn out from the partying and the booze, pretty sore from the cardio workout I had before the night's soiree. This is a list of my excuses to curb my crave for Tacos El Gavilan. Yeah, you've got taco trucks down every street in LA and yeah they're pretty good. I'm a food truck fanatic and foodie at heart. Anything is usually amazing at 3am in my condition though. So one day I decided to include this stop en route back home from Compton to see if in fact the food was as good as I remembered it to be during the witching hour... And this time, entirely sober. First off, their popular cheese mulitas are made insanely fresh and hot off the grill. Taking a bite into a steaming mulita is so gooey, it's qualifiable as being in cheese heaven. The veggie bean tacos are packed with variety of flavors and textures; from the crispy shredded lettuce to the soft refried pinto beans, and the Manchego cheese (best Mexican cheese hands down btw) is one of my favorites to top the little suckers with. Now these two items would not be the same without their AMAZING green sauce. "Pour that shit on everything" kind-of-sauce is what that is. Honestly the tacos here were not good at all. I tried the asada, lengua, buche, cabeza and pastor and they're really not good at all. The tortillas were tiny and soft but the flavor of the meat and salsa were just disappointing. Ordered the horchata and it wasn't good either...turned out that all the aguas frescas came frlm a bag....its not something they prepared on the spot...the aguas frescas came in a clear bag like prison food...the jalapenos dorados they gave was not even cooked. There meat comes in a bag. I ordered 3 tacos. 2 of Carne Asada and one of al pastor. I didn't finish my food. The Carne Asada was the cheapest cut of meat you can buy. The meat so tough and full of fat. The al pastor was sitting for a long time since it was all greasy looking. But the icing on the cake was that one worker came back from break and fist pump the cook. The cook should have changed his gloves or not done that. He just kept grilling which is how I found out the meat came from a bag. So disappointed. read more
