While driving down the food desert that is Highway 5, saw this posted on Yelp. Thought I would try out this food truck and was pleasantly surprised. They have tacos, obviously, but I ended up getting a chicken sope. For $6.50 it was just the right amount of food for me. I didn't want anything too heavy as it makes me sleepy to have a full stomach when I'm driving. They have two little benches with some sun protection. Ambience is nonexistent unless you like staring at a dirt road or watching people come and go through the gas station. The sope itself was tasty, the corn shell was crunchy and there was just the right amount of chicken. Personally, I would've liked more chicken but for a snack while getting some gas, I think it's the best option in the area. read more

Absolutely fantastic. Stopped by for gas, and was thrilled to see this food truck only 50 yards away! Price was unbeatable. $10 for a jarritos and tacos. The service was great and the lady was really nice and patient (especially considering that the wind made it tricky to hear me!). My food was out in a matter of minutes--I was fed and happy by the time everyone else in my party had received their food from the various local fast food joints they decided to go to. The meat was delicious and fresh, and the perfect little boost to get me through the drive. I would even go out of my way to swing by here as a gas stop to grab some fresh tacos. It's rare to find a joint at that level of quality on the road, and I'm glad that I've got another place on Yelp to refer back to on my next grapevine-traversing trip! read more

I came with my family to try out a new taco truck since we were coming from LA. Our experience at first had started off well until we went to ask for some salsa. The girl working there was super rude and said "she put salsa on top of your food" meaning salsa on top of the tacos and inside of burrito. When clearly they did not, nor did they put salsas in the bag. So much attitude for some salsa and not just that they charge 50cents for small containers of salsa. All our food was cold and tasted old! Overall, experience and customer service were horrible. I DO NOT recommend. Never again! Finally happened upon this place when they happened to be there. We travel to Bako frequently and look every time we drive past. So glad I got the chance and that they were there today. Ordered two burritos, one al pastor and one carne asada both with no rice. They were so good. Wish I had ordered an aqua fresca since they had a great selection and can't get them locally. If I had more people with me I would have ordered one of everything on the menu just to see the best of the best. I have to imagine all of it being amazing. Stopped at Tacos El Monkey after stopping for gas at Chevron. Yelp does specify an exact location but we stopped at 29727 Stockdale Hwy Bakersfield, CA 93314 United States. Otherwise, it would have been difficult to locate it using Yelp. I guess since they're mobile, you just have to be lucky to find them. We stopped to get gas at Chevron on our way to LA, and they just happened to be right there (very convenient!) We don't eat beef, so we ordered an al pastor quesadilla ($9.50) and chicken nachos ($9.50). Both very good and worth it! It's nice to have some real food instead of going to the usual fast food joints around the area. It was really filling and gave us lots of energy during our drive. My family and I decided to stop by at this taco truck from a long trip. We ordered asada tacos, burrito and a quesadilla. Asada was burnt , dry and salty. I kindly went up to the lady to exchange my tacos. She refused to exchange them and give me my money back. When she had already taken my tacos away. She had a horrible attitude and verbally harassed me that I'm a minor. She even stepped outside the food truck to continue being disrespectful towards me and my family. I've been coming to this food truck for nearly 5 years now and it has never disappointed. The quality of their meats is unmatched for a food truck. I love their Asada, Al pastor, and tripa. I used to get tacos only but I've branched out to their tortas, burritos, and mulitas. Oh, and the carne con nopales en Salsa verde! All super delicious . I've also had a quesadilla once and I loved it! They use flour tortillas for their quesadilla in case you are wondering. I love that their portions are generous! My current order is an asada burrito with everything except beans. I know, I know, some would say I'm crazy but I'm more of a rice type of person and their rice is so good! I have yet to try their nachos but those are next on my list. Service wise, everyone is super chill and great at what they do and I feel it has to do with the fact that it's a family owned business. I don't personally know any by name but I recognize the faces and again, all are kind, hard working, and very dedicated people. Not to bad for a taco truck it was actually pretty delicious. The burrito was delicious and the ingredients flavorful. The agua de tamarindo was homemade , a bit sweet for my liking but all I did was add water and it was refreshing. The prices are a bit high but that reflects the remote location they're at, so it's understandable. The taco trailer is parked right off I-5 and stockdale hwy , a perfect little watering hole oasis if traveling through kern county. I'll definitely make the drive out there or stop by when I'm in the area. read more

We were on our way back from Vegas to the Bay Area and this place saved us from a subway meal. The tacos and nachos were good. The nachos had lettuce which is something I didn't like.
