I've been coming to this dependable, tasty, consistent stand for years. They're low key, friendly, and still have $2 tacos as of early 2024. They have the al pastor and pineapple on a rotating spit like many stands do, but also have a large metal pan to reverse braise many of their offerings such as suadero and carne asada. Can't go wrong with any of their meats, and their homemade aguas frescas are pretty good accompaniments as well. A tent right in front of Mitsuwa. There was a line of a few people so I was majorly intrigues and we were starving so it was perfect. They cut up the meat right when you order so it's extra juicy. Another major plus is that they allow you to put on your toppings yourself! Did I go a little overboard?! Maybe. But was it still delicious.. YES IT WAS! There's 3 different salsas, cilantro, lime, and this picked veggie mixture of jalepenos, onions, and peppers. Warning: the jalepenos are very hot! I got in my AYCE mindset and put so many in and it was heatin' up. Al pastor burrito - The al pastor was so juicy and tender. The burrito was packed with rice and beans and your choice of cheese. The burrito lasted me 2 meals and still delicious next day. Tripa Taco - tacos are two-bite size but the meal is soaked in bone broth until ready to order so again, nice and juicy. I live a few blocks away so it's convenient, but I always find these guys to be rude and the tacos to actually be mediocre. Tonight I gave the guy a $20 bill for an $8 order. He looks at me and says "ocho" and then hands me back a $10 bill and tells me the other $2 are for tip. I told him my intention was to always tip and that it's insulting and basically stealing to not give me my proper change. Par for the course here. Again, they're just rude and awkward. Wow wow one of my favorite taco stands in the West LA side. I am so suprised there isn't a line like the other places! I ordered asada, lengua, and pastor tacos ($2/taco) which were all just perfect. The asada was super flavorful and had little crispy bits which was so delicious. The al pastor was also amazing and loved the little pineapple they include on the top. Lastly, lengua was super soft and not much flavor, but that's usually how it is. Everything was just perfect and easily survived a 10 minute drive home. Would definitely come here next time to try their burrito or muelitas. There is self serve salsas, onions & cilantro, and lime bar with little takeout containers. My favorite is the green creamy avocado salsa with a little bit of the habanero. The spiciness of the habanero salsa goes so well with the creaminess of the avocado sauce. Definitely grab a little bit more limes than you might first assume since they are a bit tiny. Nearby stands like BCT may have a crazy line, but these are definitely worth it for a quick dinner on a time crunch if you're craving some tacos :) read more

This is the first time I've ever hit up one of these new bootleg taco stands so pardon me if I don't know the standard protocol. So when I asked them a couple of questions, I was taken aback at how rude they were when they answered. 1) I didn't know what mulitas were... I saw them making it and I asked what they were. 2) I didn't know what went inside their burritos. My bad! Wtf. Geez. Mulitas are pretty much mini quesadillas with meat on little corn tortillas. And they have you put your choice of toppings in the burrito and you give it back and they wrap it for you. There. Just in case anyone else had these questions. Wow, I have been missing out on the taco-stand scene for far too long, these are some of the best tacos I have had in a long time! We came by around 9:30pm Sunday night, just before a crowd started. Plenty of meat on the spit firing up, with all the tortillas toasting on the flat-top and plenty of meat available in the pans. They had a great assortment of toppings too from pickled red onions, grilled onions and jalapenos, cilantro, salsa, etc. The only let down was the cucumbers, they weren't pickled and tasted old and dry. I went with four al-pastor tacos. The al-pastor was amazing, so juicy and cut up thick and each taco was loaded with so much meat! The dudes that run the stand are really sweet and are obviously very good at making food, they know what's good! I came here on a Tuesday night around 6:30pm and there was no one in line. I ordered 2 asada and 2 al pastor tacos ($1.25 each), and my friends ordered 2 al pastor tacos and a al pastor burrito ($6, i think). My tacos tasted pretty good, and they gave a lot of meat. They had the standard salsas, onions/cilantro, onions/peppers, and horchata available for purchase ($2, i think). Personally I felt like it was an average taco stand in LA in terms of taste, which is still pretty good. My friend got overcharged by 50 cents for tacos though (the lady charged her $1.50 per taco, when she only charged me $1.25) so I don't know what was up with that... Been living in LA for four years now and have eaten a whole lot of tacos during that time. Never had an experience in which I actually tossed the tacos out right there after taking a bite, but there's a first time for everything. Not only was the guy standing behind the braising pot wildly rude and incapable of doing anything more than grunting when I asked him three times about the various meats, but the al pastor was terrible. Clearly chopped off the spit carelessly with far too many chunks of fat, pieces you wouldn't want to eat, and thrown sloppily on some tortillas. Only reason for the two stars is due to a comparatively positive experience the first time I came here. Unfortunately it won't be enough to get me to come back after this. I finally got the chance when I found out one of my friends lives nearby. Got here pretty late, around 9:30, and there was nobody waiting in line, and just a couple people eating there. We parked in the Mitsuwa parking lot, though I'm sure you'd be able to park on the street should security be there during the day. I had three tacos al pastor. The tacos were nice and greasy, as street tacos usually are, and the meat was nice and charred and crisp but also tender. The salsas were good, and there were also the usual suspects: onion and cilantro, limes, etc. The taquero was pretty funny, and the lady collecting the money was also very nice. There really aren't very many street taco stands on the Westside, and the ones that are out here are pretty mediocre. So I'm glad to have found a good street taco spot in the area. There are three main taco stands in the West LA area this one, one off Sawtelle and national, and another off of Sepulveda and Palms. They all get the job done but this one is the true winner. Why? It's the meat. Chicken, al pastor, lengua, carne asada, cabeza... all the best in town. the tacos are cheap $1.50 and they let the meat do the talking. My go-to here though are the quesadillas. They get the right ratio with cheese and meat, and they take their time making sure everything melts properly. If you're looking for conversation and good tips from the staff, go somewhere else. This is a small stand outside Mitsuwa. There was a decent line forming when we got there around 7:15pm! There is no menu, but they pretty much have all the staple meats that you could want. If you don't know, you can just point to the meats on the grill. $1 for a taco and $5 for a burrito (no tax). I ate 7 tacos with carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas. I liked the carne asada the best. The service is fast and the soft taco shells are amazing. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!!! To qualify my review of the food, this is my first time having Mexican food in LA. It is not the absolute best I've had, but for the price I give it a 5/5. The quality is definitely up there. All of this is without mentioning the toppings they have! They have cilantro and onions and lemons and limes to top off your food. They have buckets of sauces you can choose from, and little containers in case you want to take your toppings to go. So good!! So cheap! read more

This place is amazing! I grew up in Los Angeles and have tried taco stands all over town, and this is seriously one of the best! Better than any of the taco trucks in the area, and much cheaper as well. They have all of your traditional meats (al pastor, carne asada, chicken), but if you like the really good stuff (lengua, cabeza, etc) this spot really shines. They usually start setting up around 6, and close shop by around 10 I think? But it seems like it depends on business, I feel like they'll close earlier or later depending on how busy it is. Occasionally, the cops will show up and make them leave (which I've seen with my own eyes), which really sucks. So if you show up on the wrong day, they might not be there. The tacos are only one dollar each, and you get to add your own onions, cilantro, cucumbers, and 2 different salsas + guacamole. All of them are homemade and all of them are amazing. Be forewarned, the guac isn't the thick guac you use for dipping chips into, but it's more of a liquid and it has a kick to it, so don't pour it on too thick until you've tasted it. Burritos are also awesome, 5 bucks. He puts the rice, beans, and meat in the burrito, then hands it to you to add your own toppings, then you hand it back to him and he expertly wraps it for you. Just an FYI. People always get really confused when they get an open burrito handed to them. He also can melt the cheese on the grill for you first if you want cheese on your burrito, and it is awesome. Highly recommended. One thing I have to say though, I was here last week and a DIFFERENT taco stand was there. It was not the same guys!!! That was the first time i've seen it happen since they started setting up at this spot. I'm hoping that maybe they're friends or relative of the same guy, because I would be pissed if someone else just stole the spot. That other place was meh, but not nearly as good as this guy. If you're not sure, every time I've been here at least one of the guys is wearing a baseball cap, and there's a lady who usually handles the money, though I've seen her Working the grill. If you see a stand set up and no one's wearing a baseball cap and there's no lady in the group, it might be a different stand. Also, keep in mind that this spot is ON CENTINELA directly in front of Mitsuwa. Sometimes there's another place that sets up on the same corner, but they set up on Venice in front of the bank. I'm shocked that this taco stand has only one review. I'm visiting from SF and staying with my sister who lives nearby. We walk to the stand, but you can find plenty of parking in the Mitsuwa Marketplace & CVS parking lot. Tacos are $1 each. Tons of different meats to choose from. I've had the pollo, al pastor, chorizo, carnitas, & carne asada. You can get more adventurous with the other meats/organs they have available. The rice and beans are for the burritos, but the main guy let us buy a side of rice and beans for $2. You can get horchata too! The two guys preparing the food are extremely nice. We try to practice our Spanish with them when we order and the main guy is always kind, funny, and helpful. You pay the lady setup next to them. If you are taking your food to go, there are little baggies to load up on cilantro and onions, pickled red onions, and cucumbers and radishes. Oh, and lime wedges! There's also three amazing sauces. This taco stand has been around for a while but doesn't have a name yet. You can find a long line of curious patrons gathering at the corner of centinela ave and Venice Blvd right by Mitsuwa Marketplace and CVS's parking lot. There's a business on yelp called "Bootleg Taco stand" that has a similar setup but I haven't seen anything at that location. You can tell this place apart from other shops because it has a number of light bulbs hanging in the front and there are usually two dudes running the show (one guy on the grill slicing al pastor off the cone of meat onto the grill and another guy who's basically chopping up all the meats and grabbing generous portions of them with perfectly sized mini corn tortillas. A Spanish speaking lady handles the money and you'll find all the condiments, sauces, napkins in front of her. There's also a large pan of various organ meats, carnitas, cactus, and chorizo cooking in lard but don't let any of this turn you off. There's a variety of brown meats and sometimes I have trouble identifying them, but I can assure you that all taste good. I've tried the chicken, chorizo, lengua, asada, al pastor, and carnitas and all have been delicious. The tortillas are on the smaller side but only cost 1 dollar each and have tons of meat in em so you'll easily fill yourself up with even 4-6 tacos. I haven't tried the burrito yet but some regulars swear by the cactus burritos. He'll scoop large generous portions of chopped protein onto a flour tortilla, have you add whatever sauces and toppings you'd like, and return to have it wrapped up within seconds. This is an amazing find and I hope to keep it that way to keep the line shorter but honestly though, these are some great guys and I love supporting small local businesses. I happened to watch in horror as 6 tacos I bought dropped to the ground and they were quick to replace them free of charge but of course, they were deserving of a very generous tip.
