One thing we don't talk enough about is that East Aurora is incredibly walkable. The intersection of Elm street and Oakwood is like NYC Times Square. The place is bustling. The parking is horrendous, and yet they all come. Before we set out on our journey, we spent a few minutes ordering online. It took our large group 10 minutes to walk down to Left Coast Taco, and our food was ready as we walked in the front door. There were plenty seats available outside in the sun on this very hot day, so we chose to walk back to our house two blocks away. The interior featured a very busy bar, as well as a few tables, all of which were filled with hungry patrons. By the time we got home to our pool-side cabanas, we were sufficiently starving and ready to consume all that we had bought. I had the birria taco on a crispy corn taco shell. Very flavorful with a tastydipping sauce. Very delicious, and I would definitely order that again. Let me just say the burritos were enormous. If you think, in terms of the size of a loaf of bread, that's how big this thing was. Everyone had a great time and we were certainly enjoyed the Left Coast Taco!

Place is super nicely decorated -- warm, cozy, "yes I am a responsible adult who eats at respectable places" vibes. Service? So good it was borderline rude. Like, relax bestie, how are you reading my mind and delivering everything before I even know I want it? Absolutely elite. And the food? Generally speaking, one primary dinner plate is served per customer at a Mexican restaurant…read more Mexican cuisine is famous for the "combination platter" or "combo plate" format. Instead of serving courses on separate plates, a standard Mexican restaurant meal aggregates your main item (like an enchilada, taco, or chile relleno) along with all of your sides (typically Mexican rice and refried or charro beans) onto one single, large dinner plate or oval platter. La Catina is plate happy! For my order of 2 tacos, refried beans and rice I was presented with three large rectangular plates. As there were three of us a forest of crockery soon engulfed our booth table what with main course, sides and beverages. Foot placement was uncomfortable because of the crossed beams supporting the table causing one's feet to be tucked in limiting stretching. A specialty dip was a melange of lettuce, taco chips and beans which defied dipping and required a fork. The tacos were open faced and inadequate to the job of ingredient containment and needed a fork. The atmosphere is warm and the staff enthusiastic. My guess is that they have a serving station plan and each station has his own crockery. bottom line and cheerful atmosphere was not matched by the difficulties serving plan.

We've been coming to Maizal for years and it's one of our go-to restaurants for family dinners and…read morecelebrations. We regularly come with a group of 6-7 people, and we've always enjoyed supporting the restaurant. Unfortunately, this weekend's brunch experience was very disappointing and fell well short of what we've come to expect from Maizal. There were only a few other tables occupied in the restaurant, so we were surprised by the level of service. Our server was pleasant, but we had to ask for basic things such as silverware after our appetizers had already arrived. Our food also came out several minutes apart rather than together, and by the time some of the dishes arrived, they were not hot. The drinks were another major disappointment. The Michiladas we ordered were served warm and without ice, making them virtually undrinkable. Since this is a drink that is traditionally served cold and over ice, we were surprised that they were served this way. One of the Michilada cups was also covered in red tajin coloring, (not just around the rim, but the cup itself where you hold it) and it took 3 napkins to clean it off. (We had to ask for the napkins) His hand was bright red even after wiping away. It should be noted that the drinks were left nearly full at the table the entire meal. I would have expected the server to ask if there was any issue with the drinks. The food itself was also underwhelming. The chilaquiles were subpar, and the tres leches pancake was particularly disappointing. It was essentially a regular pancake with tres leches sauce poured around it. Traditional tres leches is soaked into the cake itself, which would have made a significant difference in the dish. There was also an additional concern that I feel is important to mention. Before leaving the restaurant, one of the guests in our party began feeling ill and had to rush home to use the bathroom. We obviously cannot say that this was caused by anything we ate at Maizal, and we don't want to make an accusation without knowing that. However, given that this has never happened to anyone in our group after dining at Maizal, combined with the issues we experienced with the food being served at different temperatures, it did leave us wondering whether there could have been an issue with food handling, preparation, or cross-contamination in the kitchen. We understand that not every meal is going to be perfect, but taken together--the service, timing and temperature of the food, drinks, overall execution, and this additional concern--the experience was not what we expected, particularly given how frequently we choose Maizal for our family gatherings and the amount we typically spend there. We learned today that, we won't be returning for brunch. That's disappointing to say because we genuinely enjoy Maizal for dinner and have considered it a reliable choice for our family celebrations. This feedback was shared with the team via the contact us option on their website, but wanted to share it here as well as I haven't heard back from them. For brunch, I'd probably go somewhere else, but it's possible this was a one off.
