Not the cleanest looking place (bathroom included), decent food & friendly, fast service. There was no one seated in the dining room when we arrived... Besides a toddler in a car seat watching a children's show on one of the TV's. I guess better to show up to work and bring your kid rather than not showing up. The child was quiet, but we really didn't want to listen to a children's show while we ate dinner. The waitress came over shortly after we sat down, brought us chips and salsa & took our drink order. The chips looked homemade and we're good. The salsa reminded us more of a tomato sauce than a salsa; zero spice or much flavor other than tomato. When it came to ordering food I got the birria ramen and wanted a tamale but they were out; my boyfriend ordered a steak quesadilla. I also ordered the Jamaica hibiscus beverage. My ramen was pretty good; lots of meat, which was wonderful! I feel the broth could have had little more flavor. The Jamaica was tasty. My boyfriend enjoyed his quesadilla, but it came out on a paper liner and the cheese resulted it being pretty stuck to the paper. I can't say that we would visit again. I've never been more conflicted about a review. Walking in to Mexico City we were met with a bucket catching moisture from what I can assume is a leaking pipe, and the initial smell of what we could only identify as reefer filled the air by the register a about 5 people were just chilling on coolers and relaxing, the bathroom conditions were not much better.... Well we had a certificate to use , and it's because of these endless ads from Facebook. The table chips and salsa were dark almost as if over cooked a bit and the salsa was very very mild. We also got the queso and chips. Same chips but the queso was fantastic. Birra ramen came in a quart container, had fantastic flavor and was loaded with chunks of meat that just melted in the mouth. My birra quesadillas were good, fair amount of meat and cheese, a bit bland but the bowl of dipping birra helped redeem it a bit. The chicken wrap was huge, and was basically the same thing as the quesadilla with got just minus the bowl again a very similar flavor as my dish, just presented different Kids nuggets and fries, a solid handful of nuggets and mountain of fries. The little yelper was not impressed, I tried one and agreed ( but let's be honest, nobody is here for nuggets). The mango smoothie was the star of the show. Ice cold and quite refreshing. Also, the younger guy who was bussing tables and running food was incredibly friendly and helpful. After experiencing Mexico City I can definitely say that we don't plan on returning based on cleanliness (idk how they have a 100 score) and "420" odor. I was introduced to this place in 2021. The beef birria tacos are what drew me in and I can say they did NOT disappoint! The (3) tacos were pretty big and they did not skimp on ingredients. The flavor was wonderful, the vibe was very lively, there was music playing and it very busy. I also tried one of those spice mango loaded drinks-- a little sweet for me but very fun, very cutesy. Overall my first experience 10/10 ----------- I just visited them again yesterday, hoping to experience the same Mexico City. When we walked in it was very vacant -- (although i'm sure they're busier on Taco Tuesdays) ---- I didn't mind the vacancy. The employee was kind and put on the bills game for us to watch. Of course we ordered birria, and the food came out fast! I was slightly disappointed because the tacos were noticeably smaller than my first visit, but they made up for it by throwing another one in (4). I ordered extra onion & cilantro to put on top of mine. The tacos tasted amazing, although I wish there was rice & beans or something since we paid so much. For 2 orders of birria & 1 jarrito (drink) to share, we spent about $70 ... not ideal. I probably won't go there again unless it's for the $20 all you can eat taco tuesday One thing about this place is that the flavors are AUTHENTIC which is the main reason for this high rating. I was really looking forward to trying this place so I made a reservation thinking it would be packed on taco Tuesday. No reservations are needed cause it was pretty empty when we went at 6:30pm on a Tuesday night. I came across place on Facebook and it looked good in the videos that people were posting and was super excited. My husband was also excited. The staffs was super friendly. It is all you can eat tacos on Tuesdays. The food was very disappointing. All the tacos came out together in a tray and on top of one and another so it was already looking messy with the different fillings and sauces pouring into one and another. We had no idea which was which since some of the tacos look very similar. The tacos are all double shelled and fried so it was a lot and very very heavy. Some tacos don't have enough filling so you mainly eating taco shells. It was also very oily. The ramen was also very heavy, the noodles were a bit soggy and very oily so that was also very heavy. I'll start by saying that we ordered our food to go. We ended up with a Mexican hot dog, chicken chimichanga, the handmade quesadilla, and mini beef tacos. Honestly, the hot dog stole the show. I've never had a hot dog with all of those flavors in it and I really loved it. This place is absolute trash. They came to Taste of Diversity yesterday and sold some of the worst excuse for Mexican food ever hustled. You would think they would at least consider the community they were in with their prices but no they just exploited everyone instead. I ordered the Birria tacos and they were awesome. My in-laws loved their burrito bowls and my wife ordered a shrimp burrito that she loved. The green salsa is spicy and tasty. The Birria broth was delicious. Be prepared to wait though. This is a very small operation and I believe it's run by a family. I used to love the food here, it USED to be so good, but the last 3 times I ordered from here was absolutely horrible. I will never order from here again. 3 strikes and I'm done. My last order, I ordered the Carne Asada dinner ($22) and what I got was burnt shredded steak or maybe pork. I don't really know what the meat was but I did taste it and it was too burnt to tell. I ordered it before, about a year ago, and it was a whole steak and it was good, but I guess that's not how they cook it or make it anymore. So we were in the mood for tacos and was having a difficult time trying to complete an online order at our go to spot ....so we decided to take the ride to Hamburg. Nothing like a nice long ride on a winter afternoon. Well we ordered online, a simple process. They gave an estimated time for pick up and there we went. Upon arrival the place was pretty crowded. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere. The place is a stand alone restaurant with a pretty large menu. The young lady seemed a bit distracted ..but she figured it out and came and checked us out. Then the request for Horchata threw her a bit. There wasn't any ice in the bin so she had to go to the freezer ...seemed odd. I actually would have been happy to forgo the ice since she filled the cup to the rin with it.The flavor was great. The tacos were placed in a pizza box, which kept them from being on top of each other. Fortunately were were careful because of a person were to trip ....all tacos would be all over the place. I was hospitalized with food poisoning after eating at Mexico City in August. I was very sick from food that was sitting out at the wrong temperature, and who knows, maybe rat droppings too. Please check the Health Dept Website prior to eating anywhere. Never ever again. I'm a healthy 30 year old and by the time I finally went to the hospital I had lost 15lbs and my blood pressure was 87/63 due to dehydration from the bacteria. It took me 2 weeks to recover. Fun and quirky local Mexican restaurant. I've been here several times in the past few years and always come back for the delicious food. When coming here you have to be a bit patient. There have been times they are out of basic items and the service isn't bad but it's not always fast. Once you get over this and taste the food you will appreciate the laid back atmosphere and can be entertained by things like the constant changing lawn signs. This time I came specifically for the Birria tacos which have been a somewhat newer addition to the menu and not offered when I went in the past. I have been seeing the social media posts and the tacos look to die for. I was not disappointed! They were phenomenal and tasted like I was eating off a local Mexican taco cart on vacation. The portion was huge. 3 tacos stuffed with juicy and flavorful shredded meat. This was good enough but then you tasted the consume which made this dish to die for. There is nothing that could have made this dish better. I will be back again soon just for this. I easily stretched this into 2 meals with no side dishes besides chips and salsa. I also got a side of chips, salsa and guacamole. More on the chips below. The guacamole and salsa was fresh and delish! In the past when we have come we really liked the mix nachos which have chicken, steak and pork as toppings. The chips here are nice and thick, salty and freshly fried. The chips and toppings are the perfect ratio to one another and the chips don't break from the weight of the toppings. The meats are always well cooked and flavorful. The tamales and tacos have also been very good. For street style taco varieties the portion sizes are very healthy. I appreciate the fact that there are multiple Mexican style meat options such as chorizo, al pastor, lengua, carnitas and others in addition to the basic chicken and ground beef. One tip I have if ordering the mini tacos is that they are very small. We thought would be street style sized tortillas but they were a bit smaller. I would say a hungry adult might need 5/6 if not eating a side of some sort. We weren't full after 3 each. I highly recommend coming to check this place out. HEALTH DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO VISIT! Absolutely filthy! Workers have bad attitudes. Food is greasy and very expensive. Live wires exposed. Ceiling is leaking and hidden by draped material. There is a kitchen sink in the dining room?? My shoes stuck to the floor as I walked to a sticky table. Didn't want to touch anything so we decided to just get takeout. As we waited for our food several potential customers walked in looked at the condition of the place and walked out shaking their heads in disgust. My first experience here, in 2022, was a great one. We dined in and they were very busy. We had to wait a bit to get our food, but we didnt mind at all, because everything tasted so amazing. I raved about them to everyone, anticipating a return visit. Fast forward to September 2024... We ordered our meals to go and waited in the dining area while they were prepared. After waiting 37 minutes, the pork tamales as well as carnitas tacos were both given to us at room temperature, although the apparent manager who served us claims they were "steaming". Chips, of which I was graciously given an extra order, were either overcooked or fried in very dirty oil, and served with no salt. 3 tacos and 9 tamales, to-go, came out to an astounding $65. I have attempted to allow management to mitigate this issue in private before making any public posts, I was offered a partial refund through cash app, which I have not yet received, as well as a laundry list of poor and mostly irrelevant excuses. I spoke with a manager, Luna, on 9/9/24. I tried to be as kind as possible and express my concerns, for food safety as well as quality. She stated that their tamales are made in large quantities then frozen and microwaved when ordered, but that they currently only have one microwave that is functional. I explained that both my father and I, whom live in separate households, became extremely ill following our meals, around 4am is when it began. Lupe then informed me that the gentleman who prepared and served us that evening, had just taken a food safety course at Cornell, and according to said gentleman, foodboorne illness takes 2 weeks to present itself, which is absolutely incorrect. There was no accountability on behalf of this restaurant, and no regard for the health of their customers, let alone their satisfaction. I've personally worked in the hospitality and service industry for 10+ years, and I've eaten at countless restaurants throughout my life. This experience was one for the books. I've had bad food, and poor service, this is beyond that. Hopefully their food truck and various events do well, because the physical location is a joke. I'm another one on here who really wanted to like this place, but am still on the fence if I thought it was good or not. The inside photos of the restaurant on the Yelp site do not match the inside of this establishment. And if they are, they did one hell of a job editing. It's possible that these pictures were from an old location? The food is extremely overpriced. Was over $60 for two of us. The chips and salsa that were served at the table were not good. Chips were very overcooked and seemed to be reheated before served to us. The salsa was decent however. We had some of their guacamole to go with our chips and it was the highlight of the visit! Very fresh and flavorful! Fantastic! I tried the carne asada tacos and they were average at best. The meat was very overcooked and the corn tortillas were on the verge of being to dry. The inside was very cluttered and you had to place orders at the front counter. They brought food to you on styrofoam plates which was very tacky. Restaurant needs to improve a lot more! The passion fruit juice with candy slushy was definitely the best part, blended to order and the candy was a unique addition. We found the tacos and chips to be very very greasy and the salsa to be bland. We asked for hot sauce but they did not have any. The corn was not very flavorful and mushy, and the toppings had no flavor. We look forward to coming back and trying more items on this menu that we may like better as there are many things that looked tasty! Hubby and I stopped in here about a year ago on a weeknight for dinner since we had just moved to the area. There was no one else there and I think during the entire time we were there, there was maybe only one other table that came in after us. I recently learned that they used to be in South Buffalo as "Valle of Mexico", which apparently had pretty decent reviews and was featured in "Step Out Buffalo" as one of the better Mexican restaurants around Buffalo. Not sure what happened when they moved to Hamburg but our experience there did not quite meet that reputation. They didn't have their liquor license which was disappointing, not sure if that's changed. I got some guacamole to start with but it was rather flavorless. I can't remember exactly what we ordered as our entrees but I do recall that they were just okay, nothing terrible but definitely nothing special (see pics). We didn't like that some of our food was served on paper plates or fast food type plastic baskets. It was very strange and not quite the Mexican dining experience we were hoping for. I was really excited to try this place after seeing some pictures on instagram of their burria tacos. They rave that they have 30 ingredients and come with a broth to dip. The broth was actually pretty good, but the tacos were extremely underwhelming and lacking a lot of flavor. They were okay. They we're about $18 for 3 and definitely not worth the price. If eating here, I would suggest opting for a cheaper regular taco option. The inside is pretty plain except for a huge counter of mexican candies. That was pretty neat to see. The people working weren't the friendliest and my tacos weren't ready when I went in to pick them up and said it would be 15 more minutes which was a bit annoying. They said they would bring them to my car when ready. A few minutes later luckily someone called and asked what vehicle I was in and brought out our food. I usually don't tip for takeout and if I do it's usually at places that give me good service when I pick it up and I feel bad because of COVID they're not making much in tips, but to be fair the people working the takeout work in the kitchen and wouldn't normally make tips anyway so I don't feel terrible not leaving tip every time on take out. However, the man stood there and said "are you going to leave us a tip for the holidays" and of course I gave him one but it felt a bit rude. That wasn't the best start to our takeout experience but figured they must be hurting if they're begging for takeout tips. When we first park in the parking lot with that there was no car at first. My family and I were thinking that the place might've been clothes, but still, we decided to answer the restaurant. Mexico City is located at the intersection of where value meets quality and flavor. My family and I opted for a take out order on election day as we wanted to skip the dishes after visiting our polling location. The price is right for their family meal which includes 24 tacos (choice of two meats or veg) and a large serving of rice & beans for just over 30 dollars. We are a family of 6 and we had left overs. We also added the Birria Tacos and consome because #FoodGoals. Everything was fresh and ready when we arrived for pick up. Our interaction with staff was brief but friendly. I will be clear here, these are the most authentic Mexican style tacos I've had in Buffalo to date. That is saying something. Especially when you can get one for .89 cents. We went there on 6/24/22. ordered a plate of 3 small chicken tacos, a plate of 3 steak picaditas and two mango margaritas total with 10% came to 85$. when I saw the bill I had a big surprise on my face !!! I thought 45$ would be total. but no it was 85$!!!! This is totally ridiculous to pay that much for food that was blah with no taste really. I would not recommend to go there since the cost vs quality is just not justified. My experience here has always been great for the 3 times I come here already. I always get the 99cent tacos and order ahead online because sometimes they can get busy and you will be waiting a bit if you place your order when you arrive. I tried the Carnitas and Al Pastor mini tacos and those two are my goto. Of the two the Carnitas is my number 1. I can eat 10 of those in one sitting and want maybe a couple more. Their menu looks very extensive so I'll try other things in the menu when I want to stray away from my favorite mini tacos.
