I had a very good chicken burrito at Coyote Cafe recently. I love their sides there also... the sopa and Mexican rice are delicious. Salsa and queso are also very tasty here.. especially the queso! The service was very friendly ... we got there pretty close to closing time, but they were welcoming and made sure that we got our orders in on time. The restaurant has a smaller room in front adjacent to the street snd a larger dining area and a huge bar as well. Also a nice patio when the weather is good. read more

After a Yelp Elite event in Coyote Café's back patio, I was looking for a bit more to fill me up for dinner so I decided to grab something from their dine-in menu and all-in-all, it was good. Around 7:30pm on a Wednesday night, I stepped out from the spacious back patio and into the bar room and immediately had a lovely young woman take my order from behind the bar. I had looked at the menu online beforehand so I knew what I wanted so the ordering and cashout process was quick and easy. I couldn't grab a spot at the bar since it was packed, but luckily there were a couple of tables in the corner that had chairs. For dinner, I ordered a four-piece Beef Birria and Horsey quesadilla (shredded beef, house-made horsey (horseradish) sauce, and onion cilantro), which came with a side of sour cream. This was pretty good! There was plenty of beef and cheese in each slice and the onion cilantro was a strong, good flavor. The beef itself was cooked perfectly and was tender and juicy. I really wish there had been more of their house-made horsey sauce in and on this quesadilla - that's what drew me to this in the first place! The little bit of sauce I did taste was great. I should've asked for a cup, or two, of it on the side instead of the sour cream. This was good but not my favorite quesadilla. Since I had eaten a bit of chips and salsa and a few other items before, this did the trick in satisfying my hunger for the night. The price for this too was very reasonable I thought. Coyote Café gives off vibes of being a local spot with its loyal customers and locals who want a place to sit, drink, catch up and nibble on something. It's not glamorous inside, but it's not a hole-in-the-wall/dive bar-type of place either. I wouldn't make a point to come back to Coyote Café but if I was in the neighborhood with a group of co-workers, or friends, and they wanted to meet here, I wouldn't have any issues with it. read more

Stayed in Hamburg visiting friends and brought our girls here for a quick lunch before we headed home. The bar and outdoor areas are super chill! I would love to sit out there in the evening with a margarita! It's your typical Mexican restaurant menu/food items. I got a chicken quesadilla and the girls got the kids make your own taco meals. I eat here every time I return to Buffalo and I'm here again now. Ordered the enchilada pack (or whatever its called). Came with 6 enchiladas, tray of a side, queso, 2x salsa, and chips. I have no idea how this place gets less than a 4 star rating. One of the sides is something called sopa de fideo which is mexican spaghetti which i've never found elsewhere and is amazing. Their queso used to be the same which was this orange color queso. Now its a white queso and tastes like everywhere else. Nothing special about it. We were greeted promptly by staff upon entering the cafe and taken to our seats where our drink requests were taken almost immediately. With so many menu options and those amazing chips and salsa I think we took a little more time than usual ordering. Of course our favorite go to was on the menu so wet had to get the fundidio queso and chips. I think we both hit chip and dip overload at that point (a classic mistake). But we ultimately went with the , Chicken bacon ranch quesadilla, 8pc. Big portion with great flavors throughout, even though I just had a few it definitely didn't disappoint. Our little yelper loves quesadillas, and gave hers the thumbs up. Which is good (plus the music had her dancing on the bench ). The misses ordered the chicken fajitas with rice and beans, the protein side of the dish was great and the rice was good but sadly the beans were really quite bland. Nothing special food wise. There is better Mexican. Didn't love the queso cheese sauce - it didn't have a lot of flavor. Rice was dry and hard. The chicken in the enchiladas also was really dry. My trip to Coyote Cafe was certainly an interesting one! I love Mexican food, so I was excited to try out this place! I will give you the heads up, it's not authentic Mexican cuisine, but it was still pretty decent, just not my absolute favorite. One thing I did love was how big the portions were! You will definitely have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We stopped by around happy hour, so be sure to take advantage of the specials! I recommend the seasonal sangria! The place was a little smaller than it looks from outside but it had a nice Mexican feel to it. Our server was very friendly and we were immediately greeted upon entering. Like most Mexican places we were given chips & salsa, two different kinds of salsa; both were very good with one slightly hotter than the other. I had the giant burrito with chicken and it was really very big and equally as delicious. My wife went with a chimichanga with chorizo that was also big and delicious. The sides we got (choice of 2 each) were the sopa, frijoles, and Spanish rice, each of which was very good. We both had drinks as well which were also very good and not overpriced. 2 stars for this rating comes for the staff. The staff were very friendly, we were seated immediately, and our waitress was great. The other 3 stars should be for the quality of food, which was lacking. Generally speaking, WNY tends to not have good Mexican food, but this is understandable considering its proximity to Mexico. This doesn't always hold true though as we do have some very authentic food from some other cuisines. That being said, the flavor was lacking. My birria taco was dry, tasteless, the dipping sauce was bland, and the "Mexican pasta" was interesting, to say the least. All the sides tasted like they were from a box. I'm surprised that there was an up-charge for the Mexican beans. I did like the complimentary bean dip which came with the chips and mildest salsa though. I was a huge fan of it, but it doesn't make up for the flavor of the other food. I do understand that one wouldn't expect to have comparably mild seasoned flavored food in Hamburg, but I didn't expect to be this mild. If you see my reviews, you will see that I rarely post 2 star reviews, and I hate to post this one. From what I hear, Coyote Cafe has been in this location for decades, so I do believe that the locals appreciate their food. I won't be coming back, but if you like extremely mild flavored Mexican themed food, or a place to introduce Mexicanish food to family and friends who aren't familiar with it, this is your place. read more

Admittedly, I have not tried a ton of their offerings. However, the ambiance inside, competent staff, happy hour specials, tacos, and their outdoor patio setup are amazing! I will definitely be frequenting this place often! It is more upscale than standard Mexican restaurants that all have nearly identical decor and menus, without being priced significantly higher, if at all. We stopped in for a drink and a small bite to eat. We ordered a house margarita and a Corona premier to start. They offered free chips and salsa with our beverages. We also had a Chicken burrito with spinach and tomato with a side of sopa de friedo. The burrito wasn't great but it was okay. The sopa pasta was pretty good though. Chaotic experience. We went on a Tuesday, saw a line of people for the host counter, and found out when one helpful lady told us to flag down a certain guy who was on the phone to get added to the wait list. There were no signs designating their procedures. We would have stood there in line for nothing if we weren't given that tip. My wife received one of those buzzers that alerts you when you're table is ready. I headed to the bar, found a space (not a seat, a space) and waited for service. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. The 2 bartenders were obviously working hard but there was no method to the madness. My wife found me and was able to secure a seat, I remained standing. I still was not able to get the attention of any bar staff. Well, finally my wife flagged her down. I saw a happy hour special, so ordered 2 Blue Lights. There were some very low priced happy hour food specials, so we decided to just order one of those rather than keep waiting for a table. So after more waiting we were able to flag the bartender and ordered chicken nachos to split. She was nice enough to provide chips and salsa while we waited. I do have to say that every dinner that we saw leaving the kitchen looked very appealing. It did not take long for our nachos to arrive, and the saving grace of our visit was how good these nachos were. We finished those up and were satisfied. If the nachos weren't so good, I probably would have given Coyote Cafe 2 stars at best. By the time we finished our food and drinks, our buzzer still had not alerted us of a table. We had been at the bar over an hour and the restaurant was fairly busy, but did not appear overwhelmingly busy. I wonder if the guy at the front never set the buzzer. Because we only ordered happy hour specials, we paid $11 for drinks and food, not including tip, but had we been seated we would have spent much more on a full dinner. Our food was great, the food we saw others receive looked great, but they really need to get some kind of system in place to serve customers more efficiently. read more

Met a couple friends here for happy hour on a Friday. They had several drink and food specials for happy hour from 4-6. We chose margaritas and beer for drinks and chicken quesadillas for food. The service was good, the food was tasty and we had a nice time sitting outside on the patio. I'm surprised this place has such good reviews. Hubby and I went there for dinner on a Tuesday night in August 2019, and we have regretted it ever since. The floor was very sticky all over the place and the smell reminded me of a dirty bar. Even the seats and the tables felt sticky, and it didn't help that our table was never properly cleaned and there were still remnants of food left on it. I'm not sure if they don't have AC or were just too cheap to turn it on, but it was August and the front door was wide open, which was not only uncomfortable but we had to deal with annoying flies (and fruit flies) through our entire dinner. We ordered the following: pico de gallo salsa -dry and lacked flavor, which was surprising since all the ingredients should naturally burst with flavor, but it just tasted stale and gross; Guacamole - weird sour taste, i stopped eating it after first bite; chicken fajitas without peppers - not terrible but I didn't like how the chicken was chopped into tiny pieces because that made the meat dry. The sour cream was warm which I also didn't like, but it didn't taste spoiled so I just gave it to my husband. He ordered the steak chimichanga with queso and said it was OK, but he hated the refried beans and said it looked and tasted like cat food. Lastly, he also didn't like the Mexican rice cause it was dry and flavorless. Oh and I almost forgot - they only had Frank's hot sauce! What kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't have some kind of Mexican hot sauce??? And if I recall correctly, they had an extremely sad beer list which only solidified my husband's decision that he will never return. Finally, our waitress was not attentive at all and was often nowhere to be found. We were so disappointed because it's kind of the only Mexican place around Hamburg, but the good news is that we have started to make tacos and fajitas at home a lot more since then, so I guess in a way - it worked out for us! read more

Forever to get seated in a half empty restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, there were only two of us. Finally seated and waited more than 10 minutes for no one to come take our drink order. We were seated at a bar table so we were in clear vision of the staff working the bar. The hostess at one point even went and told someone behind the bar she had seated us a while back. I love Cayote Cafe so much! Out of all the American-Mexican places I've visited around Buffalo, this is by far my favorite. Their portions are absolutely huge for a great price, you will almost always have to bring the rest home. For me, you can always tell how great a place is by their chips, and their chips are great! Their drinks aren't the best, I've had their mojito before and it was very bitter. Their sangria also has too much seltzer and not enough wine. Sangria should be a bright red not a light pink, but that might just be preference. We wanted Mexican and decided to order from a local small business as we know they are taking a hit during our "COVID MicroCluster Level Orange." We had a lot of trouble with the website. The online menu did not have great descriptions of everything. Then when we went to do the online order, not everything on the menu was available to order online. (Fish tacos & taco salad) it was also pretty unclear as the categories on the regular online menu did not match the onions ordering menu. We were very frustrated and decided to just call the restaurant. Calling was completely fine, the person who took my call was great and it only took a few minutes. Pick up went great. They had a huge thing of hand sanitizer - thank you! It was really fast I just ran in and they had everything all bagged up and ready. My meal was delicious - I had the fish tacos and I had them battered. I got the side of sopa and Mexican potatoes. The sopa was yummy and the Mexican potatoes were not very good. They were chopped fried potatoes with a bit of seasoning on them. Maybe they were too cold when I got to them, but I was expecting something packed with flavor and crispy with a fluffy center and these were bland and dry, I won't order them again. We ordered an appetizer, it was the Carlos poppers. They were awesome! An entire stuffed banana pepper breaded and fried and covered in queso. Very very good. My husband had the double decker Quesadilla in buffalo chicken. We ended up not liking this very much. It was so much food and it was soaked and sloppy. He had some. Then I tried some and we ended up throwing out half of this thing. It was cool in theory, but we ended up not being impressed and won't order this again. I have gone back and forth on the star rating here. I decided on a 4 star review because the fish tacos and the poppers were so delicious. Had a great dinner here tonight! This was my first time actually eating here (I've only been for drinks) and the food was delicious! We got the chorizo enchiladas and the fajita chicken burritos both with queso on top. Everything was delicious, especially the queso. The chorizo was pleasantly spicy. When we showed up they said it would be a 35 minute wait but we were welcome to enjoy the patio because a band would be starting soon. The patio was quite large and starting to get busy but we were able to snag a table near the bar and tv to watch the Kentucky Derby. The live music was a great touch and we really enjoyed the band. We were even lucky enough to get a caricature done by Dennis Reilly! He was such a nice guy and did a great job. I thought it was really cool that he was going around doing these for free for people. Our waitress was also awesome. She was so attentive even as it got busy on the patio and very friendly and prompt. Last but not least, the mixed berry mojito was fantastic. This place was surprisingly good and a fun find! I don't often get to Hamburg so I was excited to try a new place and I am ALWAYS up for Mexican/Mexiamerican food. First off their house salsa is seriously amazing. I loved it and I ate like three bowls with chips it was so good. The place is pretty fun inside and it's bigger than it looks. I got their chicken enchiladas which were pretty good but not great (something about that sauce just didn't do it for me) but the refried beans and rice were good. Our waitress was very sweet and the service was great throughout. I got an amazing strawberry margarita and my friend tried their blueberry one which was even better than mine!
