I don't know what happened to this place. I used to love this location for their huge burritos and quesadillas. I ordered a super burrito with chicken. When i got home, I found the $13 super burrito had only rice, beans and a only a little chicken. The chicken was cut into little tiny squares and it was extremely dry and had charred pieces. There was no cheese and no sour cream. The huge burritos of the past are no more. One burrito used to almost be too much, but now one isn't enough and the prices went up. Avocado is an up charge. I ordered a 1/2 torta the size was large. The filling was yummy (meat/ beans) but the french bread used did not pair with it. A suggestion is using telera bread which is used typically in MX. read more

Taco Ameca 2 was my favorite taco place around. Now they have raised their prices and shrank the product. Burritos $12 and there is no meat mucho beans and rice. Fountain drinks are almost $5. This place is always a favorite for my wife and I. Their food is fresh (making tortillas right in front of you), it's always so delicious, and it's quick! A few draw backs; parking can be difficult, the sauce cups are a weird small size so you have to get a bunch, their TVs are in display mode so you can't really watch them, broken to little enough (this really is t a draw back for us since we can understand and speak a little Spanish, but it might be difficult for others, Yo entiendo mucho español pero hablo un poco de español). A place with picnic tables for outside seating and offers inside seating as well. They make fresh tortillas at the location and have a salsa bar. They do have vegetarian options, though limited. We ordered a Veggie burrito and I requested a Veggie Taco Plate (it wasn't on the menu). They forgot to give me tortillas for my tacos and I had to remind them and they came about 5 minutes late. The veggies were a box of lettuce with some pickled onions, a few tomatoes, and freshly cut avocado. I was hoping for some variety and maybe grilled on the hot stove. I did mention it when placing my order but I think he had a hard time understanding me. The horchata tasted fresh and just the right sweetness. So I've learned that there are 3 different Taco Amecas!. First one is just Tacos Ameca which is the first restaurant that started, they've done so well they got a 2 and 3. Next is you should go to #2 and let me tell you why. The Tacos here are humongous packed with meat and onions. This isn't your ordinary little taco so if you eat 10 you might want to go with 4 or 5. Second this is like your traditional Mexico restaurant it even has the Mexican coke yes people the good stuff real sugar. They have a bar with sauces, cilantro, onions pretty much anything you would want on a taco. The meat quality was amazing I had the pastor tacos and even had some of the Asada, if you're ever in the Gilroy area I recommend stopping by the joint amazing tacos you will not be let down. read more

When my family wants good tacos we drive all the way from Salinas to get these. The tacos are $3.15 each, which sounds pricey BUT there are some amazing ladies in the kitchen "torteando" making the tortillas BY HAND. The tortillas were nice and soft--super yummy. So I think $3.15 is totally worth it. The tacos are not normal taco size. They're pretty big. The tacos come with double tortilla and a generous amount of meat on top (enough for you to get two single tortilla tacos out if one). Now, I've noticed that the portions of meat tend to vary. I've visited during the weekend and since they're usually really packed in the weekend the portions tend to run on the skimpier/messy side. So you might hear the narrative "wahh I ordered a taco and it was just a pile of meat on a tortilla wahh" which doesn't sound too bad to me but--to each their own. This time I visited on a weekday and the portion was perfect. The tacos de pastor are truly the star in my opinion. You get strips of pastor with just the perfect crispy to soft ratio. The pastor lives in this massive trompo that is amazing to look at. The asada is also good because there is usually a man in the front grilling the meat. Yum. Although sometimes it can run on the dryer side to some, given the thin cut, it's worth the try. I also had the tacos dorados de papa. Good choice for vegetarian friends and I urge fellow carnivores to give a try as well. The potatoes are seasoned with tomato, onion and a bit of oregano topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese avocado and sour cream. It also includes a "salsa de tomate" which is not really a salsa but my mom makes it too when she makes tacos de papa and this place has it which was great. Overall, this place is great. read more

We had the taco plate 1/2 Carne Asada and 1/2 Al Pastor, comes with rice/beans and 4 tortillas. It was a very generous serving as I could only eat half. I feel bad giving this place such a low review but I was just really disappointed in the tacos. I had the tripa, carnitas and al pastor taco. While the portions were huge, it was hard to eat. All 3 of the meats were very salty and greasy. Some of the meat even tasted overly charred and burnt. The tortillas were great because they were fresh but the overly salty meat ruined it. Also, they should invest in bigger plastic cups for the salsa bar. The cups are so tiny that you end up making multiple trips back to the salsa bar. I will probably try them one more time before deciding on not coming back. For now, Super Taqueria is still my favorite. read more

Really disappointed... Tonight the food I got to go was gross!! This place is usually good, but I got 3 regular tacos 2 asada 1 pastor, and the tortillas were not fully cooked and the meat was SO dry and barely warm! I ate a couple of bites of each and threw them away! We also got a quesadilla and it was soaked in grease! What a waste of money! I noticed TACOS AMECA #1 is better, but there is hardly ever any parking. We went in at 7:30pm and there was NO napkins in any dispenser.... And the salsa bar was a mess! If you're in the mood for a chicken burrito this is not the right place. I ordered a chicken burrito and the chicken was hard and crispy and super salty. Not to mention how nasty it looked. It makes me wonder about the restaurant's food storage conditions- do they let their food sit out at room temperature? Is the meat reheated? A great new taqueria! The food is very tasty and the portions are really big. I've had the street tacos and a taco plate. The tacos are not the small ones served at many restaurants, these are the full sized tortillas. I made the mistake of ordering three, and they are humongous. I could not finish the third till later. The corn tortillas are freshly made for your dish and have the consistency of flour tortillas. They are absolutely delicious! The tacos and plates come plain because there is a condiment bar. If you don't want onions, cilantro or salsa, no problem...I saw the cook preparing a torta which to Me resembled the size of a flatbread pizza. I will go back and try that one later. I tried the carne asada, el pastor and tripas, all delicious. My only negative is the parking. Not many spaces and not a lot of places to park around the neighborhood. Also, there is one female employee who drives a white mercedes suv who insists on parking directly in front blocking the view when you sit outside. Avocado comes on nothing and is extra. So I paid, no problem since I love avocado but there was only enough for one bite from each side of my torta.
